Downloaded the xiaomi app and it worked like a charm
Basically there are 2 versions, english and chinese. If you can read chinese, then be sure to download the chinese one as it is more stable and updated.
Else try out the english version first. If you are having some issue with it, try to memorise the layout and functions, then switch to the chinese one.

If you are having trouble activating the functions, try increasing the 'ms'.
* one of the best feature is to do a quick camera snap as well as a quick 'start voice recording'. very useful when trying to do it discreetly
