Hi all,
I have an issue. Let me know if you have the same. My unit: Malaysian ROM, updated to v29. Background: There is a folder for Google Apps that includes many, many pre-installed Google apps. When I go to Settings>Apps, none of the Google apps are listed there (not sure about other pre-installed apps such as Facebook). Issue: Currently, I find that my Google apps are not updated. When I go Play Store and click My Apps, the apps are not listed there also (makes sense, maybe, since it came pre-installed). As such, I am unable to update them. To update them, I need to go to Play Store, and find one by one the app and update from there. Anyone experiencing the same? Anyone know the reason why? Anyone know how to 'fix' this? Disclaimer: I didn't search the MIUI forum on this yet. Cheers! |

QUOTE(thomaskid @ Aug 12 2014, 01:10 PM) Hi guys! Sifus, please correct me if I'm wrong.I'm considering to buy Redmi 1S due to the cheap price, but I have some doubts because of the low price. Yes, I have no doubts the phone performed well during those hands-on reviews in the video. But then those reviews used a phone which had less apps. So here are my questions: 1) Does Redmi 1S lags after installing many apps? 2) How much memory do we have for installing apps? I'm sure we can't use all 8GB JUST for apps. 3) Can apps and files be moved to the external SD card easily? 4) Does Redmi 1S hang easily like those Samsung phones in this price range? 5) Does Redmi 1S have the insufficient storage problem when updating apps like samsung phones? I just don't want to feel cheated after buying this phone if it lags like hell. I'm a person who installs many apps and gaming performance does NOT matter for me. Thanks! If I understand you correctly, there are 2 things you need to care about when deciding on a phone - the amount of ROM it has, and the amount of RAM it has. For Redmi 1S, it has 1GB ROM, 8GB RAM. The ROM is all about how fast, fluid, whether it lags, whether some apps crash or not. View this as a house's living room where all currently active apps are occupying. They need to fight with each other to use the room. The RAM is all about how many apps you can install on the phone. View this as a house with multiple rooms, each room housing only 1 app. Fresh out of the box, the Redmi 1S has about 5GB for use, if I'm not mistaken. When you start an app, it will get out of its own room and move into the living room (together with other apps). In other words, whether you install 1 or 100 apps on the phone, by theory, it should not cause the phone to lag. So, if you want to make sure a phone does not lag, make sure it has a lot of ROM to begin with. Redmi 1S has 1GB ROM. Next, make sure the UI does not take up a lot of ROM. Redmi 1S runs on MIUI (by default). It uses up about 400MB of ROM from what I read. In my opinion, TouchWiz of Samsung is quite bloated in that it runs a lot of stuff. That is why it is more laggy. The final thing is, whether a phone is laggy or not depends on what you have running in the background as well as on the home screens. I believe FB takes up a fair bit of ROM. Things like widgets and such on the home screens also takes up some ROM. Finally, live wallpapers will just eat up your ROM (don't think many people use them anyway). Oh, and the graphics processor also affects whether or not a phone is laggy since it affects rendering of screens. But hey, that's enough for today. So, on to answering your questions 1) No 2) About 5GB (someone please correct if I'm wrong) 3) Depending on app, same with all phones whether Redmi 1S or S2. Smaller apps, yes. Bigger apps, tougher. But short answer, yes. Seriously, SD card should be used to store your own personal files such as music, movies and pictures, not to store apps. 4) No 5) Same as #3 Peace!
