Our Passion Hints and Tips on How to Purchase an Edifier Sound System Purchasing a new sound system, or even upgrading an existing one can be a daunting task. The following hints and tips we use at the Edifier Research & Development Facility may well prove useful for you to consider.
I have several stages for you. Firstly, try to establish your budget. From here, one can then start to look at your musical tastes, choice of movie soundtracks, and also gaming needs. Bear in mind, that the choice loudspeakers will affect the sound quality more than any other component in your system. With this in mind, try to purchase the best speakers you can if they are not in a pre-packaged system.
Next, comes shopping at the store you have chosen. Try to pick a quiet time of the day so you can listen in a more relaxed atmosphere. It is always a good idea to bring along a few of your favorite CDs and DVDs for reference. Try listening to a few systems in your price range, or if you are shopping for loudspeakers, choose no more than three brands and models. This will make your final decision easier after extensive auditioning.
Now you have a good idea of what your needs are for your new purchase or upgrade. Next, I am going to suggest the critical listening stage and what to listen for. All of the following topics are important, and are in no particular order.
Detail
The human voice is always a good test for this category. How convincing does the male or female singer sound? Can you hear breath, texture, and realism? Make sure the voice is clear of chestiness, nasality, and sibilance. Musical instruments should sound very defined and embody as many elements of a live or studio performance as possible. Remember, that bright sounding speakers may sound exciting at first, but can become quite tiring after a few hours of listening.
Bass Punch & Slam
These sonic characteristics tend to apply only to speaker systems that have either satellites and subwoofers, or that are of a larger size, for example, medium sized bookshelf and floor standing models. Pinpointing punch and slam refers to the rhythmic force which you feel as much as you hear, for example, in a kick drum or tympani. Musical style and tastes will also affect the overall bass quality and quantity you hear. For example, Rap and Reggae will have more of a profound deep bass presentation, than say Classical Chamber music. The above attributes are a good guide of overall speaker power and transducer quality.
Overall Timing
This term describes the accuracy of the musical notes embedded within the recording. A good loudspeaker system should be able to communicate the rhythms within the music scores with high precision and tautness. As a result, you may well find that unknowingly, your hand or foot may have been tapping to time of the beat.
Imaging
A rather complex issue regarding phase and time, a fine system will convey the placement of voices, instruments, and sound effects, in front of and between your speakers. In the case of higher end loudspeaker systems with wide dispersion, you will find that the stereo image will extend past the far left and far right of the enclosures. If you close your eyes, you should be able to sense the atmosphere of the recording, and feel you are actually there at the performance.
Ambience
The ambience, together with imaging, will provide you with acoustical clues as to where the recording was made. For example, if you hear a rather spacious echo from a recording of say a sizeable Orchestra, the chances are it was performed in a large Symphony Hall. The best loudspeaker systems are also capable of reproducing the “air” around the voices and instruments within a recording. This attribute further enhances the realism of detail and spaciousness.
Now that you have purchased or upgraded your sound system, I have a few hints that can make your listening experience all the more enjoyable.
* Try to set up your sound system for the best possible chance of success. Try to keep your speakers away from corners and sidewalls to avoid standing waves and unwanted room resonances.
* For desktop Multimedia systems, find the most comfortable chair you can, and place it midpoint between the satellite speakers on your desktop. If possible, try to listen 18-24” away, if your satellites are about 28-36” apart. For Home Theater systems, try to listen 6-10 feet away, if your speakers are 6-8 feet apart. These distances will give you fine imaging and depth.
* Try relaxing and listening to the music or movie soundtrack, and not to the sound system itself. You may find after 10 minutes or so, that you are completely immersed in the performance.
If you follow the above advice, you may well find that music that was once used for just background enjoyment, has now become your primary source of entertainment.
Happy Listening!

Bro,
Please contact Inter-Asia @ 78804001 for replacement remote.
I have a question, wonder if Edifier or anyone knows.
I'm using Edifier S330 speaker. At the back of the subwoofer, there is a knob that allows us to control the Bass level. And there is a headphone output at the volume controller for the speaker.
My question is, does the Bass level setting on the speaker affects the headphone audio if I'm using the speaker's headphone output?
Currently eyeing on asus xonar u7, asus xonar essence STX, creative soundblaster Zx, audinst HUD MX1 Which do u guys think will boost my R8 2800's sound? currently using asus xonar DG..
will want SPDIF for my speakers, 3.5mm jack for my razer carcharias ( audio n mic jack ) thanks.. or is there any better option? budget ~650

Nope it isn't affected, that bass level is just for the subwoofer.

Asus Xonar Essence STX seems to be your choice. Because you need output and mic input for your Razer headset, and SPDIF out. That soundcard are known got very good quality and sound.

since STX uses RCA and 6.3mm jack, I need to use converter right.. will that affect the sound quality?

The H690 headphones provide you exceptional quality and clarity with maximum comfort and sophisticated design. It enhance the sound from less detailed source like compressed MP3s and make your favourite music sound better than ever.
Hi guys.. not sure where to ask so i posted here.. Thinking of grabbing an asus xonar STX to pair with my edifier R8 2800.. Wanna ask, if i only play music from youtube, am I making full use of the sound card? or should I get FLAC or 320kpbs MP3 audio?
When playing those HD lossless audio, do I need to change my audio playback samplerate /bitrate? I come across the term ASIO when browsing.. it seems asus xonar stx support this... asio helps to handle the changes of the sample rate or bitrate automatically? Or am I wrong here... and to use asio playback, i need to set foobar2000's playback to asio or something? thanks.. kinda confusing to me..

No need to be afraid of making full use of the sound card, once you hook it on and install the latest driver you will get better audio all the time. Playing lossless audio is a must because is full quality from cd, you should enjoy it to the fullest.
Using ASIO or WASAPI can squeeze a little more performance to your audio source, but can loose functionality because it only allows an audio source for playback like when you use foobar2000 you can't hear your youtube channel playing.
Better sound card comes from the hardware design to achieve low distortion and higher signal-to-noise ratio, software normally took a small part of improvement.

thanks! yeah, noticed the functionality issue.. when using wasapi on foobar.. any tweaks that can improve the foobar's sound? hehe

The H690 is overall grey and black overall that gives it a subtle style. Construction is solid even though the headset is very lightweight, mostly due to the high quality plastic used. Branding is kept to a minimum and just printed on the headband. As for sound quality, the Edifier H690 is definitely worth the consideration as I would say that it is more than impressive, especially for first time users looking for the bang-for-buck deal.
want to know how you all take your speaker home? let's say if i'm going to buy a s730 from lowyat plaza and i have no trolley to carry it to my car, my house is condo so i still need to carry to the lift and to my house
how am i going to do that alone, that thing weight 28kg, i think 10kg also a bit tough already

I don't know about your condo part but usually most stores will toss your S730D on a trolley when you're gonna buy it.

Many shops in Low Yat Plaza will carry the merchandise to your car if requested (provided of course its parked downstairs). However you may want to consider getting a cheap foldable trolley (such as the one shown below) to help carry the heavy speaker up to your house/condo...
Hey guys, i need a bit of help. My Edifier R501 MK2 is sorta acting up.
At first, my front-right and behind-left wasn't working so i tried fiddling around with the wires (disconnecting and reconnecting). Now that those two are working, the center speaker aren't working and the sub isn't giving out any bass. The sub still has the red LED on and toyed around with the controls to no avail. Help?

Oxidized plugs I think, you can try clean the plugs by wiping it with WD-40 or contact cleaner. By the way, how do you connect your speakers?
Normally this case can verify again by twisting the plugs or shake gently it will it produce cracking sound or the sound will comes back alive.
followed your advice, some of my other speakers worked, but nothing for center T.T twisting it around actually did help but no sound for the center speaker. kinda feels like there's no power flowing. used wd-40 for all plugs
New Update! All speakers are up and running but the bass got noticeably weaker though Played around with setting on Asus Audio Center (as i am using the Xonar DX) and still nothing that can help bass much

The other contacts are cleaner than the sub so gives louder sound??
Might possible you need to wipe the sub/center channel plugs until it shines a little then try again.

hi amduser long time never see u my body size also kurus2 like u. last time i bought 28kg item, cannot carry at all. i drag on the floor becos nobody help me angkat. dont worry as the protective packing is tough

i see you use edifier studio series speaker. are you casual listener or more on progressive /analytical listening?
youtube and mp3 encoding are mostly 44100hz dvd and bluray rip use 48000hz
windows will automatically resample using fast method (low quality) to xonar. u will need to change the xonar panel in order to get bit perfect. asio and wasapi function is bypass win resampler, but cannot support multi stream simultaneously like cosef mentioned above.
foobar must download asio plug in.
FLAC and properly made mp3 is up to par with your edifier. take care of your room acoustic will improve the sound path and directness.
not sure who teach u "HD lossless" ... very confusing
QUOTE(xFreedomBoix @ Jun 7 2014, 02:48 AM)
tweaking is changing the setting on foobar or installing components? hehe.. kinda confusing for a newbie
u can start from using resampling, noise sharpening and asio /wasapi plug in, later on slowly tune the buffer rate up to liking. no need so many plug in, those already enough to improve sound quality.

hardly post in forum nowadays, and very rare to lurk around this section
maybe i will get C5 or s530D instead of s730, a bit over budget
i wonder if i can connect my HCS2330 and new speaker together to my desktop, 1 for front another for rear

Could be broken grounding connections, which would reduce the bass. (such as internal broken wire problem). Also make sure the plugs are properly plugged in (twist around and see if there are interruptions and changes). And I would recommend using contact cleaner instead of WD40 to clean the plugs and sockets...

Can find those hand trolleys at places like AEON, Carrefour and Tesco. Costs way less RM100 only (the one I've had costs me only RM45 but that was quite some time ago, in terms of years)...

The sq is above average and pls try it before you buy.
Anyway, what should I do for better sounding? Need advises to unleash the true potential of this studio speaker. FYI, I used it for HTPC. Speaker upgraded, so what is the next? Thanks~!
I would suggest u do proper placement first. Buy speaker stand. what kind of sound u looking for? More dynamic? Soundstage? Accuracy?

Hi bro ktek,
Thanks for your reply.
As i mentioned, it was used for the HTPC. It serves my family mostly for movies time and sometime I do use it to play musics and songs when gathering session is held at my house.
Currently, the speakers were seated at the height of the ear level. What do I meaning here is, the height of speaker same height to my ear level when ppl sit on sofa. At the moment I still do not have any speaker stand for them, they placed on top of my dad's previous karaoke speaker, similar to this.
But normally I will just lay on the floor and watch movie, haha..
I am not sure what do you mean by sound stage, but with limited length of speaker cable, and it's a stereo speaker, I would just want it to sounds nice. I am not having much knowledge on setting up in the proper way, but do hope to get some advice from sifu here.

u're welcome this is an example placement of speaker, try it.
soundstage is a magic that make speakers disappear! usually big (like studio 7), expensive speakers and powerful amp are easy to achieve it. u can test using action movie or rock band, concert music. voice is comming out from center. left side and right side got "extended surround feel"

Hi Bro, thanks again for your reply.
Now, is there any difference between analog input and optical input? Currently I do not own any sound card, speakers are drive by the on board sound card.
My connection is as below.
Graphic card HDMI to LCD > LCD RCA to R2700.
or should I just use the optical input directly to the speaker?

Yes there are difference between analog input and optical input. Theoretically optical input should have better signal-to-noise ratio, but subjectively it is depends on personal preference. You may try see which sounds better to your ear.

Hi bro Cosef, I read your review on the R2500 studio speaker. Since mine is a new set, what should I use to break-in them? Follow what you did? Use pink noise? I also read Power911's review too, he used pink and white noise if not mistaken. But what will be the duration?

Pink noise and electronic music in loud volume, covered with blankets. That time my neighbours and housemate almost come and kill me.
Can...what it actually need is loud and exercise the speaker driver for a period of time, so the speaker suspension will loose to optimal condition. Then you'll get good sound, more details, etc.
My speaker m3300 or something like that giving me problem.. only the right side speaker working.. the left side very very very soft until like can't hear anything.. what could be the problem ? I tried switching the red and green wire and left will work But right won't..it becomes the opposite.. can it be fixed ? And how much will it cost or should I just go buy a new speaker.. as this speaker already 3 years I think.. when I blast it gives some buzzing sound.. thanks

Bro,
I suspect the problem is cause by the wired controller, you can contact Inter-Asia at 78804001 for the replacement controller.
i am planing to upgrade my speaker from vs4521 to r2700 or r2800, would it be a waste if I only use build in sound card on these two big speaker?
Don't worry, there will be no waste but you'll gain lot more headroom for better sound on later upgrade.
It is the same like using a high end sound card with entry level speaker, performance improve not much but lot more headroom if using a better speaker.

If you got space and need more bass, you can go for R2800 for larger woofer diameter. Oh yea you can even use the speaker digital input if your pc got digital output from sound card.

Loving my R1900Tiii but I wish can reduce the bass some more. However Edifier, my right side speaker got static sound. It's not loud but it's really easy to notice it.
No problem with the cable and any of the volume pot so I suspect it's the caps that having problem. Been own this speaker since March and notice the static sound at the end of April. I expect the sound will disappear but here we are, it's July and the sound still there.

Bro,
Sorry for the problem cause. can you try to connect to other output? if problem remain, you can sen it to the dealer you bought from and inform them to send to us for warranty service.

I tried with: - Aune T1 RCA output - UD100 3.5mm output - Laptop 3.5mm output - PC 3.5mm output
Still I can't get rid of the static sound. Anyway, is there any Edifier partner at Miri to deal with? Posting the speaker back to dealer will cost me a bomb. It's 20kg, and weight more than my hi-fi speaker. I need to send back the whole unit right? Oh my...
Hello guys, I am planning to get Xonar STX soundcard. Is there any good speaker good for music listening that i can pair it? currently i set budget RM500. I have sampled R2800, R2700,R2600 in lyn. R2800 sounds quite good, but it's kinda too big and warm. And not sure if it's the unit problem, R2700 and R2600 sounds terrible in comparison. Sounds like radio quality sound. Is it really that big difference to R2800?

Could be setup problem I guess, R2600 and R2700 sounds good if you have a good sound card and a real good performance signal cables.

move further from back wall or fill the rear port with old cloth
hi, all sifu here. i'm using audiotrak prodigy hd2 + c3 now. if i planning upgrade the speaker between these 3 models r2800, s530 or s730, which 1 is better. i dun mean loudness but sq of course. The difference i can expect is huge or just ok ok only if compare with my current c3. or i need to upgrade the sound card as well. by the way, i mostly listen to online radio, youtube and tv drama only .... can be consider as for music only thx
then in that case you don't have to upgrade at all ><
but if I were to choose~ R2800 for improved stereo image
hmm.... how do u think s760 good for music? i personally more prefer surrounding effect. but after some survey, seeing a lot ppl complain rear and center satellite cannot perform well or doesnt work at all if playing mp3 file since it's stereo format

I have yet to test the S760D as it is quite new but yea it does get confusing when 5.1 is not configured for stereo at times
that's why I'd always asks if 5.1 is necessary for user needs but once you gotten used to it 5.1 is a fun to play setup

How do you think about the current bass sounding?
If not sure and want to try new position, maybe you can try re-position your satellite speaker first as lower mid range can possible affect the way you perceive the subwoofer bass.
Make both satellites height identical and the bottom of the tweeter is around your ear level, if you can't do that maybe you can use door stopper to angle it up.
As for subwoofer positioning, maybe you can try pull out the table and leave the sub at the same position so you got your sub around the same distance to your satellite speakers. Try it back and forth see which gives a fuller sounding to you.

as the c3 originally bass are not solid. now plus the current condition, make the bass are more soft. and i am using laptop onboard sound output.
watch movie are great, coz i open the bass to max, real great.
but when listen to songs, the bass are just too soft.
thx for the satellites suggestion. maybe i should move my table to corner wall but i din't like the corner side coz no windows there. surrent position is very good during daylight ^^

no $$ already, bought few things this month still studying, budget tight. I'm building a rig now. So I duwan spend $$ on buying an external sound card/amplifier. Would like to buy a internal sound card that cost around 300. next semester just buy. Will use onboard 1 first.

Why not try move it out from the pc table. Actually sub is low frequency, not much effect in placement unlike high frequency speaker
nope, you can experience some kind like bass "boast" if place at corner place and you stand at the opposite corner. but in this room, I dunno how to place it lol Currently I place it under my table coz it will .... err as I said just now, corner place but hunting for new spot now. I tried put outside of table, the bass is softer than before, then I tried place under the... the... the... left hand side of the walled table there, bass is stronger a little bit, just a little bit but still failed coz I can feel the bass is come from left downside... something like not balance... bass come from another way. In the end I place it back under my table.

Speaker system Edifier R1800TIII will definitely be appreciated by amateurs of quality sound. Stylish appearance, completely digital signal path, the presence of bi-amping, sufficiently high quality of manufacturing - this is not a complete list of the advanatges that adequately justify the cost of the speakers. The only drawback, at least at the time of review we can call a weak prevalence in stores. Due to the high reliability of the sound the system is ideal for lovers of diverse genre compositions. Power of speakers is also quite high: within the medium-sized room the max capacity of volume is 60%. In rare cases, there is a slight balance shift towards the low-frequency range; however such a situation can be easily tuned by equalizer player. The only annoyance that may face the owner's is a search of qualitative audio and video files that are can reveal the full potential of Edifier R1800TIII.

Speaker should face the longer side of the room, not the current way round. Only 'boomy' speaker can give quantity bass in that configuration, or if the room's enviroment allows it.
Since your room is pretty empty judging from pict, there is nothing to soak up higher frequencies or reverb the lower frequencies. Since room is not treated try not to position subwoofer dead centered between 2 side walls, unless your listening position is 1/3 distance to the far end or listening at the far end of room.
Best position for sub is at the corner of the room IMO. Best if you can move the whole table & set to the windowed corner, speakers facing bed for near field listening. For more bass coverage, set it at the current bed position facing the WC door, that way the bass port is facing a longer side-wall. If the room is squarish / square / alot of indents (current place other table is placed), there will be alot of 'crosspoints' where there will be almost no bass / mids. C3 doesnt have a dominating bass, pretty challenging if you need for more bass, eq can help as te woofer doesnt bottom out easily. good luck!

Maybe you can try turn the subwoofer to face to the back, or reverse the polarity of the subwoofer sometimes can solve some bass continuity problem.

Some laptops have slightly weak outputs from their integrated audio system. Both PCI soundcard and external USB DACs are essentially the same thing, just packaged differently. I don't think PCI sound cards can fit inside a laptop, thus a more logical choice would be an external USB DAC. You may want to try putting that subwoofer in a down-firing position with the woofer facing the floor (reflecting the bass directly off the floor) and see. Make sure there is a substantial air gap between the woofer and the floor...

Kinda dfficult to find/see any S2000 around the shops, plus pretty pricey too (one of the most expensive models from Edifier). And which "SuperM" is that? Is it the small Bluetooth thingy? If it is then that is worlds apart when compared to the S2000 (including the price also)....

Yups, that's usually the source of low level buzzing. Bulging is a visible sign of bad capacitors. Example from my old Edifier M3300 when it started buzzing...

"Unite" capacitor, el-cheapo crap really...
And was replaced with Nichicons...
Replacing those capacitors solves the problem. Some good capacitors and soldering work required...
thanks for the tips...so I should look for blown caps in the amp module?
what is the price for those caps? can find easily in jalan pasar? jalan pasar sell cheap but high quality cap?
Yes, look for bulging capacitors. But do note that sometimes bad capacitors may show no signs externally and may have to remove the capacitor from the board to measure it. As for those high quality capacitors. try buying from online electronics stores such as RS Components, element14/Farnell/Newark, Mouser and Digikey. Many of those capacitors found selling in Pasar Road are mostly counterfeits (remarked low quality el-cheapo capacitors)...

Working days are always busy.
Anyway, I left my M3300 to other person before I try upgrade to TDA2050A or LM1875. But changing to metal film resistors does greatly improve the overall soundings, like replaced to premium wiring. Adding 0.1uf or 0.01uf on each signal path electrolytic cap also give extra gooding to sound

can recommend me the good 2.0 model. My budget is RM350.
any comment on R1600T?
tq
Do you mean the R1600Tiii? You can get them for RM299 at Lelong + or grab them from Lowyat at RM330+. I have done an audition on them before. They sound clean and crisp. Just note that when playing high pitch audio, they can become distorted with bzzz sound. Other than that, I like their knob for volume, treble and bass control. In addition, they have a shield for the speaker drivers to prevent dust going in. Fitting in back is much easier compared to other speaker brands. These speakers does not have much "boom boom" effect from the bass though like their S series.
But I haven't seen the R1600T model in Lowyat for audition. If you are an audio engineer (mixing sounds effects to create music), you might want to look into R2600/R2700/R2800 Studio Speakers. Here is one of the review from a R1600T user:

i give more details regarding the prob with my C2X set. even though i bought a new speaker set, i miss my C2 a lot.
On wednesday afternoon my house was hit by lightning. power in one part of the house was lost due to burned fuse.
in my room, i did not unplug my monitor n C2. After turning on my PC, i realized there was no sound fr the C2 even though everything on the LCD screen of the C2 looks n functions like normal....just no sound.
I then increased the volume to around 45 n I could hear very soft muffled sound of the song that i was testing it with coming out of the speakers.
in my thread u mentioned it might be a power supply issue. imma wondering how much this would cost.
if the repair cost is too much then i probably wont get it fixed.

i give more details regarding the prob with my C2X set. even though i bought a new speaker set, i miss my C2 a lot.
Since your C2 still has power then i suspect the problem is cause by main PCB failure, max repairing charge is RM150.
Hello, do you guys know where can i get a good deal for R2600? I saw one in lazada selling 100 bucks cheaper than normal retail but too bad it is out of stock...
For Kuching, you can get Edifier products @ PC Image, Boulevard and etc.
been searching hi and low, some of the salesman i really don't know how to describe, really do not know much of Edifier products as much. I will try my luck again at Boulevard IT branches.

just curious what if i remove the speaker of M1360 and connect the woffer to R1600TIII. Will it help to increase the bass quality or just waste of time ? from 2.0 system to 2.1 system just that the woffer is 4 ".

The factory already tuned it properly, don't modify the woofer or the box but for electronic part yes.

Hi... Not sure if this is a wasted comment but would anyone need a 2nd hand Edifier MP300 for its spare parts? I have one that I rarely used so having opened it I found that the plastic bit for the small 2 speakers broke the minute I took it out of the container... Perhaps someone may want the sub woofer and get some new speakers??
I have found someone to give it away to. Thanks for reading.

Greetings from the United Kingdom! This will be my first post, I just joined today and will be looking forward to contributing to this wonderful forum.
I managed to score a faulty Edifier S730 for £33.56 (RM 178.52) plus postage, easy to say I was jumping for joy! It had a fair few issues, the fuse holder was broken, some of the caps were out of spec and the TDA7294 amp chips had blown.
That out of the way it still isn't working, I can here the relay clicking on and off once every second. I believe the only thing standing in my way of being able to fire up this baby, is one small SMD resistor/chip. The code on it has been obliterated since the chip went poof, so who better to ask than a whole fan group dedicated to the awesome electronics company Edifier!
The fault resides in the little black plastic box that is screwed to the bottom the chassis, in the bottom right-hand corner of the image.
I believe this circuit to be Over-Current/Voltage/Short-Circuit protection, as well as Stand-By, it's funny how the fault would be on this particular board
On the back of the board, there is a little SMD resistor which I am hoping is the last piece of the puzzle, labelled "R7"
If anybody will be able to identify this little resistor for me, I'll order a replacement and hopefully everything will be hunky dory
I haven't yet had the pleasure to listen to an Edifier product, heard many great things. Have a Creative FPS1600 passed down to me from my Mum, it has been in the family for nearly 13 years.
I've been after the S730 for around four - five years (I'm now 19 years of age)

R501T III gives you full control over your sound. It makes sure your favorite movie, TV, music and game sounds exactly the way you like it. A multifunctional remote allows you to effortlessly adjust inputs, tracks, volume and bass and treble levels. On the front of the subwoofer, you'll also find a stylish digital display for visual adjustments and settings.
Thanks. How is it compare with S330? As my old S330 was faulty recently, want to replace it with something similar or better
Any idea which shop in Penang has demo unit to test?
I'm also a user of S330, about 6years... I've not been keeping up to date with the new speakers from Edifier. I'm thinking of getting a new one that is better than S330. Any suggestion other than S530? Preferably something that is not too big...

Say goodbye to boring, bulky, boxy speakers. Introducing a sound system so revolutionary that it completely redefines what bookshelf speakers look like, and sound like.
Standing at 15” tall, the Spinnaker is engineered to be both visually striking and sonically stimulating. Representing the best of Edifier’s design excellence and technological innovation, this iconic bookshelf speaker system is the winner of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Innovations Design and Engineering Award.
I m a Edifier S530D user, this speaker is almost 7 years old, been using all the while for music since bought, but had been sitting idle since yr 2013 until now as the audiotrak soundcard that pair with it has spoilt...ever since then i use the S550 as my main speaker for music, movie and gaming (S550 is good in music n gaming, but when come to music it still lose to the S530D)...
Today quite free so decided to turn on my age S530D to listen to some music (connect it to my Creative Sound Blaster Z sound card, since i cant find anymore audiotrak soundcard in the market now)...and to my surprise, the S530D still rocking n sounds so nice...i m so impress with the quality of the Edifier speaker...hope it can last for another few years before i change to another set of speaker...
Quite a while not active in this thread already, was into a working life currently. Tried to free a little time do a light modding on my R2500 and quite a good improvement overall, but felt a little thin sounding when powered up.
Found some leftover cap that I used to mod my M3300, now I use it for my R2500. Indeed still a good cap for audio.
Replaced the NE5532 to my favourite Op-Amp, LME49860.
So the 4700uf 35V is for the main power supply filtering, adding another 0.1uf film cap can helps further remove high frequencies interference noise. Notice that board has charred on the top left?
So it should be the resistor and diode was too hot that cause the board to charred out, the caps were expanded too. That should be the power supply cap for control module on the right side of the speaker, no wonder I faced some problem on controlling the volume where sometimes pressing volume up and down will trigger to input switching function. I guess time to do some upgrades, it has been turned on 24/7 for years.
The upgrade made the overall sound a lot more detail and wider sound stage, doesn't feel boxy sounding. Does found it a little glare on highs but I think it will be okay after letting the power supply caps to run in for some period of time.

Just bought the Edifier C3, thinking of getting a sound card to pair them. What recommendations do you have? I'm using the speakers more for movie. Currently using the onboard Realtek on my Asus P8Z77-V LX motherboard.
i like R1280T & think that it's suitable for my budget & needs but i can't find detailed reviews on it. anybody who has it care to comment? or short review?
Hi guys. I just bought an Edifier H850 headphone and i'm wondering why the sound is low even after I have set the volume in my computer to maximum. Your replies are very much appreciated.

It can be your connector or jack oxidized.
Check your pc connector or try plug it to other source to verify the problem.
I had mine running moderate loud using phone, but mostly playing it using pc sound card integrated with amp.
just a quick mention: thanks for convincing me to get the S530D, they are totally awesome and a good fix while i wait for my G500 being repaired by lex
the digital interface is shit though lol, or maybe my x-fi digital just isn't up to par... then again, just 0/1 digital signals, id reckon its the speaker more than the sound card lol.
still a minor "hold back" (i won't go as far as hate as i did with the C3 i have for my LED TV) on the mids, but the highs/subwoofer should more than make up for it

I'm guessing you mean the digital audio input for this S530D?
yea it's not smart enough. and it cuts off most of the time
it only supports max 48000 16 bit anymore it'll just go dead or choppy
I kinda miss the Edifier S760D digital input though. It was a breeze to setup
I wanna invest on a Studio 7 book shelf speakers to connect to both my laptop and PS3. Since this speaker has both Analog (RCA) and digital (optical) input, will it be a big difference to let say connect my PS3 to analog vs Digital? And since Studio 7 is stereo speakers, does digital even required?

analog is random and it differs from device to device. you'll get lots of difference in sound
digital makes use of a soundcard (or we call it dac) inside the speaker so no matter what you connect it'll sound the same.
up to you on how you perceive sound so... some people wants a constant sound, some wants better via analog, some just wanna experience a rainbow of sound
plus if you're a sound engineer traveling with your studio speakers, you wouldn't want a different sound signature. You want a constant sound for your reference in work. (it's like how musicians prefer to use their own instruments rather than using something they are not familiar) (but then again I believe no sound engineer uses digital connections)
hope it helps explain why the difference in connections.

was actually thinking on the studio lineup... however as the S530D barely fit my current table (i had to move away my mugs/figure etc a bit to compensate), i'm glad i stuck with the S530D instead

i need a decent/powerful subwoofer anyways
gotta agree S530D bass kicks manlier than the Studio 7 or 8
but the Studio 8 gives a wider range of bass though
I would suggest put the speaker grills on for best listening experience as you'll get more balanced sounding and has great depth and sound stage. This is due to the speaker diffraction is reduced with speaker grills.

Need your professional opinions. I need speakers for Rock, clear but bassy music-40%, movies-30%, gaming-30%. I have few speakers in mind and few concerns. I'll be connecting the speakers to laptop. Will I need a DAC? Say Asus Xonar u3?
1.Studio 8 - Will this produce enough bass to rattle a few windows? Will I need a DAC to create great sound? 2.R2730DB - Considering this due the fact its cheaper n smaller than Studio8. 3.C3X - Will this produce windows-rattling bass? 4.S330 - Cheap. But is it worth it?
I don't have the time to audition any of these. Reviews are hard to find out there. Hoping any of you here could help.

1) no subwoofer 2) same as 1 3) if it's anything like the older C3 that i have, lacking a lot of mid bass/mids 4) lacking everything however still considered good for the pricing it is demanding. bought this for my sisters and they love it (too small subwoofer/mid or mid bass speakers)
so may i suggest S530D instead bro.
i just gotten this, bass not as "rattling" as my Creative G500 THX certified, however to make up for its lack of quantity it has plentiful of quality bass where you can be easily moved by it
pricing is very reasonable for what it offers
for connectivity, try to just directly connect first. if insufficient only consider DAC (which i doubt you'll need)

I guess I should say some words since I've tested both Studio 8 and S530D in my room
It's either you get the Studio 8 or opt for Edifier S530D (you can ignore your other options)
S530D will give a harder kicking bass compared to Studio 8 mellow bass
Both pounds hard Both gives clarity
In any case you need rock, these 2 are just not meant for it due to its massive sizes contributing to sluggy speed while rock needs things fast. (however your 2nd option R2730DB can do it)
but hey, they're both superb speakers to invest in so I'd definitely recommend choosing either one.
I'd go for Studio 8 if you got the table space mainly because it sounded more 'huge' compared to S530D (plus the amp could save you some electric bills)
I own the S530D and technology wise it's outdated. But sound wise I'll always go back to the S530D when compared to Studio 8 because it has more warmth over Studio 8 cold feel
Hope it helps in your decision If you can't decide... Just buy based on looks That's what I do most of the time nowadays. Cosmetics>Sound I should be punished someday

I've auditioned R2730DB, R2800 and S530D. I must say, S530D have more kicks. Liking it. Thanks guys for the suggestion. But then,, I gatal go and try S730. Fell in love with it instantly. Should I go for it? Will there be an updated version of S530 anytime soon? Coz S730 price kinda high. Hmm.

just jump to Edifier S760 then you got nothing to regret about
Plan on changing my desktop speaker, currently using an old altec lansing i bought about 5 years ago for around rm250 and the connection to the subwoofer is crapping out on me.
Was looking at the M3300, M3250 and the C2x. If my budget is below rm350, which would u recommend?

I'm currently using Altec Lansing vs4121 speakers.
Is it considered an upgrade, and will there be any significant difference if I upgrade to the Edifier C3 ?
I'm not looking for boomy bass. And I read that the C3 is not the boom boom bass type. Add On : Soundcard I'm using now is the Asus Xonar U1 audio station.
sound quality will be an upgrade especially the mids
bass would be considered downgrade on volume and upgrade on quality (but it's more of a downgrade to most of the altec lansing users)

i'm not a altec lansing fan.. i bought these speakers last time because i thought they were bang for the buck and had bass (time when i wasn't so into sound quality yet)
so basically with C3 , i will get: - Mids quality upgrade - Bass becomes less bassy/boomy/muddy, but upgrade on bass clarity.
If that is correct, it's exactly what i want !
i'd still recommend you to test things out first.
majority got disappointed with the shift from vs4121 to c3
I'm currently using Altec Lansing vs4121 speakers.
Is it considered an upgrade, and will there be any significant difference if I upgrade to the Edifier C3 ?
I'm not looking for boomy bass. And I read that the C3 is not the boom boom bass type. Add On : Soundcard I'm using now is the Asus Xonar U1 audio station.

honestly 4121 is the worst speaker i ever heard in my life. over power bass, especially in 80 to 100hz range to make a WOW rattle effect to user, worst in terms of quality. The worst part was the down firing mid driver, i can't brain how the altec designer can design such directional driver using such orientation (i believe they are deaf anyway), just think yourself speak to the table rather than direct to the audient when u talk, 0 detail and clarity, the only speaker than i can't manage to improve even by EQ. Please bear in mind anything higher than 80hz(bass) will start to become directional, so reflect mid range through surface is a no brainer design.
For me change to any Edifier speaker is consider 'upgrade' in terms of sound quality, if u want those no brainer bass in vs4121, i afraid not much speaker in edifier line up can beat it. Don't get me wrong as i'm not altec lansing basher, in fact i'm AL user too.

talk about no brainer, Razer Mako uses this for mid/tweets XD
Anyone using R2700 Studio 7 speakers? Mind to give some overview review for this speaker? and what's the latest price for it?
The R2730DB review can be found at https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3493206 (Successor model of R2700). The other guy who used Edifier R2700 is lex, you can ask him for his review ~ not sure when he will upload one since it has been few years
How about the C2x? how does that compare to the C3 and the C3x?
Didn't like the bass sound of the C2X (6.5" subwoofer), not that solid, bouncy and punchy compared to the C3 (8" subwoofer). The bass sound is very subtle, so if you have small budget + does not mind that issue, go for C2X, else go for C3 (recommended). C3X is the successor of C3, has more features (e.g. play music via USB, has headphone output, satellite speaker box made of MDF wood instead of plastic), uses DSP (Digital) but at an additional cost of RM169 which is not that worth for budget consumers. Personally, I don't find them used often so its not worth getting it.

Treble on all 3 speakers are good.
Thanks for the suggestion. I think i will get the C3... however, i went to lowyat and digital mall and most places do not sell the C3 anymore, the only place I found it in stock is All IT. And they sell it for about RM430 which is rather pricey for an old model. However, I do agree, i had a listen to it earlier and the C3 sounds much better than the C2x to me, especially the Bass. The C2x subwoofer has a rather muddy bass which I really do not like. C3 sounded more articulate and cleaner.

I got my C3 at all IT . You should have just got it on the spot just now when you were at all IT. For your time + parking headache, that RM30 difference is negligible. Before that, I was considering buying online for like RM400. But if any warranty issues, I would need to bring to KL. All the hassle to save RM30 wasn't worth it. So, grab it before current batch's stock run out!
Guys, I've just got my Studio 8 yesterday. I'm hearing white noise/static noise (not too loud but it is there, didn't notice it during testing after purchase) even when nothing is connected (just turning the speakers on without any input wire attached). What could be the culprit of this? Is the speakers faulty? I've tried placing the speakers away from any electronic devices, problem still persist.

During purchase most probably the area is noisy so you can't notice the noises produce from the speaker.
Did the noise still there when the speaker volume is at the lowest? And does it reduce when you connect to audio source?
Looks like the amplifier amplifying the noises because of the volume was turned too high on idle.

Try use different power socket, if still persist, go for warranty. Btw, can I know where you bought your Studio 8? I'm planning to get R2730db soon, just wished to know .

I have not heard noise/static noise during my audition with the Edifier Studio speakers in Lowyat. Try changing to different modes (Coaxial, Line 1, Line 2, Optical) and see if the issue persist in all of them. Try setting the treble and bass at 0dB and volume at 25 (which is 50%) and try again. Try placing it in a different room and turn it on there. Maybe one area has too much static energy? If error still persist, can give Edifier a call to make arrangement on sending the speaker for warranty at their HQ Sunway Damansara.

Yes. The noise is there even at the absolute zero volume. It does not reduce nor increase when connected to audio source.

Tried moving it around. Tried different power socket, still same. Bought mine at Lowyat, Sri Computer.

I didn't notice it initially too. Now at home, it sits on my table, closer to ears, can hear it clearly in total silence. With fans turned on, need to concentrate. Haha. Tried going all the way down with treble, bass n volume but still the same. Tried around the house. Not increasing/decreasing.

I see, does Sri Computer has 1 to 1 exchange policy? How long is the Edifier's warranty btw?
Planning on getting the C3, however, also plan on adding on a soundcard to my system coz i read that many ppl suggesting that the C3 should be paired with a decent soundcard to obtain its true capabilities.
So what would be a good pairing? Anyone has any suggestions? Asus Xonar U3? U7? DX?

I usually recommend T-Muso PCM2704 just so that you get the bass boost feature in the card to compensate C3 low bass volume
Asus Xonar U7 is a popular choice but I don't hear much difference. Never experience DX before. You can ignore U3 and go with the top option instead
You should try the C3 with what you have first and plan on upgrades once you got bored with what you have

I'm currently using my onboard audio. It's pretty disappointing.. But I will see how it is later.. Im going to get the c3 now. Hopefully it's good enough then I won't need to purchase a sound card/DAC
Btw, where can i get the T-muso? and also a Bass boost sounds good, but would there be a noticable improvement for the mids and highs? besides that, is there also anyway i can use this for the C3 and also plug my headphones into it?

you can search for the member slevinsent here in lowyat forum and order one from him.
I'm not sure if he still sells them but give it a try.
if you're planning to bassboost your c3 then the signal will be bassboosted also to your headphone out. it may be a bit hassle to switch the bass on or off but it's worth doing so
sound quality improvement may differ from different ears. I find mine an improvement over all laptop cards but close to similar sounding to my current realtek soundcard with less noise and louder output

Cheers for the reply. Will it be able to match the HCS2330? I'm right now about to pull the trigger on a good deal for that. What's the pros and cons of a 2.0 vs a 2.1?

Just had a look at the R1700BT! Looks good man but way out of my budget. My thoughts are, I'm getting these speakers for temporary use then I'm gonna give them to someone. For that amount of money I might as well invest into proper amp and studio monitors.
Sry double post but actually you know what... after some research, I'm gonna go for the R1280T. Seems better for music like you said after reading more reviews. Doesn't hurt that it looks much better as well.

Hi guys, I'm looking for a speaker for my small room which is about 4x4 meters. Main usage is to hook it up to my ps4 for gaming so I'm going to need a speaker with an optical connection. Tried looking for a soundbar but its out of my budget, I'm willing to fork out around rm300.

Try to connect it to another source to check whether still has the same problem.

Hi I was looking around for a 2.1 set in the range of ~RM200 and read some rave reviews for Edifier M3400. Sadly looks like it's an old model that's not even listed on Edifier's site anymore.
What would be the current replacement model for M3400 (Performance-wise)? I see that the P3080M has a similar design but I can't seem to find any review of it.

Put something to slope up your heighten up the speaker (e.g door stopper, food container, wood stand, etc.) until the line of tweeter and midbass is with your ear level.
Run in the speaker with louder music volume for certain period of time.

What i mean was you just dislike the sound rather than the speaker malfunction, becos obviously got ppl misunderstood ur speaker was malfunction (asked you send back to shop)
Different speaker different signature, even came from same brand, so upgrading in terms of money/rank not necessary upgrade the sound, becos simply this is personal taste matter.
Like Cosef suggested, adjust the speaker positioning is very important, toe in about 25-30 degree if the spacing was too far away, remember, triangle rule, each speaker to your ear distance should equal to the distance between the pairs.
One more thing, laptop or external sound card won't make day and night different, don't fall into the trap.

im sorry my understanding of english is not good. Nobody like thin sounding in the lower midrange with weak boomy bass playing along with it. This is of course not personal taste matter. Afaik, its common problem for speakers but i dont know what caused it and have no idea how to solve it. Yes, i dont believe a soundcard, to me its like dsp processing when its compared to the onboard laptop (but i dont know surely, only one i try) i want to ask something, forgive me if its too personal to the company, is the standart/default speaker cable decent? I googled and found that speaker cable can make sound became lifeless, lean in the midrange, and uncontrolled bass, just like what im experiencing now!

No, definitely this is personal taste matter, how to explain alot of ppl do like this speaker that u hate?
If u are not believe in sound card, then there are even no reason u should believe in cable.
The most efficient way to tune the sound (to make the lower end thicker) is by using equalizer. Audiophile never use equalizer is plain bs to me, unless u are rich enuf to look for high end stuff.

not sure if audio engineer (especially mix engineers) are classed as audiophile but no signals must bypass eq in the mix engineer rule.
That's what I know in what I learned.
In fact my Edifier S530D is always on max bass and treble

Alot of ppl just not understand the purpose of EQ, when mentioned about EQ, the so called audiophile will reject with the reason distortion la, coloration la, bla bla bla...For me, buy the speaker and tuned it to the sound that i like is much more important than whether i'm audiophile or not.

Unfortunately not anymore.
There used to be a famous M3400 which is a 2nd option over E3100 Gone
You can try the M3250 which cost around RM219 I think. as well as P3080M which is even pricier at around RM239 if I'm not wrong. I like the sound of this one more as it sounds more pleasing but controlling the speaker is a pain Not my cup of tea. Just maybe you will like it

which 1 will more suit for home tv speaker?
VS4621 -more bass?
R1280T -more rich sound experience -not bassy (becoz it's studio speaker) -got remote control (good for tv speaker, easy remote)
just need a firm answer 2nd question, how about for pc speaker? which 1 will be better in overall? I'm using asus xonar stx too. if you hav better suggestion will be good just budget friendly
It really depends on your room I'd go with R1280T just solely because of remote control for convenience unless your TV can control the output volume
Depending on how big/reflective is your tv room or how far your tv is to you, I would go with R1280T just for the vocal priority as it has the lead for this category. (you can consider the VS4621 if your room is not echo-ey)
As computer speakers are designed for nearfield listening, it may sound messy and noisy for long range listening. Do keep that in mind.
Which Edifier speaker that is equivalent to AE Aego M 2.1? I'm looking for a small, compact PC speaker that is suitable for music listening.
Previously I owned a pair of Behringer Truth B3030A. Unfortunately due to space constraint on my desk (previously using 19" LCD, now 27") and also a change of heart (previously was an audiophile, like everything to be flat, pure and "colourless") I'm looking for a replacement. Subwoofer is a must since I've been listening to music without a sub for nearly 5 years, and i'm starting to miss them.

I don't think the Edifier could compare well with the Aego M especially in the quality treble brightness More especially when you need something small that sounds good. The small edifier speakers aren't entirely small to begin with.
I can suggest the Edifier Luna Eclipse for small but big sound package but it lacks a woofer if you need. You can give the Edifier S330D a try but I find it a downgrade to an Aego M (other than a better responsive dual coil subwoofer compared to Aego M slight slow mud soft midbass woofer for modern music)
offtopic suggestion

Have you ever looked at the entry hifi class Focal Bird 2.1? The Little Bird or the normal Bird is small but packs quite the quality punch of Aego M (or even better) That's if you don't mind spending more than RM1 to 2k for it
I still wish I own one of these bird

as replied above, nothing from edifier (save *PERHAPS* the R2800) can compare to the Aego M. but it will lose out in size and 2.1 vs 2.0 bookshelves/studio speakers is a mismatched comparison anyways.
now, while i wouldn't recommend the S330, i would highly recommend the S530D as the bass will more than make up for the trebles in comparison to the Aego M

i thought you dont want flat and wants subwoofer? r2800 no subs, all 2.0 speakers.
True, I had my sight locked at AE Aego M. Unfortunately I am about 5 or 6 years late, the speaker is very hard to find these day. Should've bought it when I had the chance back then..
Also, after toying with several 2.1 PC speaker I don't think any of them come close to my old Truth B3030A in term of natural reproduction of my music. Certain backing instruments like violin and keyboard are almost unheard due to powerful subwoofer and piercing treble. The clarity just isn't same. Sound separation also very narrow.
If I can find a budget 5" monitor, that's fine as well.
r2800 look nice but the size is a concern for me. Is it using 8" driver?

AE Aego M still can find, just now the price is higher than last time.

that's why i recommended S530D since you wanted multimedia speakers. i'm using them currently and i find them just nice for all rounder be it pricing/performance/trebles/bass
Hmm, my S730D is not making any sound. Weird. Tried pc input using the red and white to 3.5mm cable and also digital input using the Optical cable. Wonder why. Haven't used it for a month though

tried checking the fuse?
you'd be surprised how one fuse could lead to so many weird problems
My S530D did once light up but didn't make any sound. Changing the fuse could magically do wonders (and I have no idea what causes that)
Which model produce good quality sound, m3200, m3250, e3100? Mainly listening to k-pop and play games (dota 2 n csgo). Budget around rm250 and been eyeing the mentioned model

For budget RM250, i will recommend you m3250 or e3100. Please test it before you buy.
I have sent it to a local audio shop. Will know about the problem tomorrow. Btw if I were to have the satellites on the wall, what do I use? Normal nails? It's quite heavy. Scared that I'll drop it

nails could work only if the head is fat enough to hold the lugs (sometimes I recommend screws but nah they scratch things up badly)
you might need speaker brackets so you can position the speaker to face you.
