Since this is supposed to be official launch, shouldn't we see them popping out in retail stores soon?

Why they want to do like this?
People will get frustrated because they can't buy the device easily since it is always "out of stock".

But then again, wouldn't this limit the amount of devices that they are going to sell in the long term?
Since "normal" people won't know about this device let along buy it, especially at retail stores.
Although nowadays a lot of people tend to buy phones through the Internet, many still prefer those brick and mortar shores. Or am I wrong?

Their current strategy seems like Google+ / Gmail marketing strategy.
Create a fake impression of supply, by setting up an initial barrier for entry to build up hype, then open it up.
It may go really well, like Gmail OR end up terribly as in Google+.
