Dear all

I am going to Sipadan for a diving trip in August and wish to get a underwater compact.
There is no underwater housing for my XE-2 currently, so the more affordable alternative will be to get a P&S instead.
I will be taking still images, thus is willing to overlook the lack of proper video recording.

Came across the Olympus TG-3 (Tough series) :

Not only is it capable of 15meter depth, it has impressive macro ability too which is a bonus smile.gif

Which underwater compact would you recommend me instead?
Is there a better option?

Thanks in advance thumbup.gif

How deep are you diving? This says it's rated for 15m only. If you are going for deeper dives, not sure if this is recommended. I purchased a gopro for similar reason, and I'm loving it. Maybe you can consider that?

They told me that with my license I can go to 18m only.
For the GoPro in order for it to submerge underwater, I need to purchase the waterproof casing too yes?

All Gopro cameras come together underwater casing, which are rated to 60m. Which is precisely why I bought in the first place.

I bought the Hero 3 Black. It comes with a nice remote. The remote is waterproof as well, but won't really work underwater.

I can't say for the new Hero3+, but Hero3 battery is a bit disappointing, you'll have to be careful and remember to turn off your camera once you finished recording. I used it on vacation and it can last me the day and I'll have to charge at night. If continuous recording it can probably last you 2 hours. I highly recommend to get extra batteries. They cost about the same as average digi cam batteries, about RM120-130 locally. If you buy from US it will be cheaper, if you can get them to ship here.

For me, if the depth > 5m where the water gets really blue due to less light red filter can help. But for shallow dives/snorkelling without filter still very good.

Yes. I use it to compliment my DSLR as some sort of "wide angled lens". The timelapse mode is good too. Also, selfies.
