Fiber Optics Are Weather Safe – Because it’s not electricity being sent through the wiring, changes in weather cannot affect the signals or information being transmitted. Rain, cold, lightning, all of these can affect traditional electrical signals but not fiber optics.

I always report to TM and request technicians when problem. They will do the checking. After a few time coming to my house, they finally solve my issue which is changing all the equipment (Modem and Router). What I can tell you based on my experience is the new silver modem works better.

If you just need to browse local websites only, the old white modem probably work OK. But if need to visit foreign websites daily, then you need a better modem.

However until today during raining my Internet browsing would be affected. But after the rain stops, thing will be recovered. I have asked the technicians, they can't explain it also.

okay, I can use your problem statement in my next research. Probaly I could conclude something in future on my research wink.gif

I've been doing Internet marketing and selling for 9 years. Whenever I have problem, I'll call the TM customer service and they will send the technicians. The technicians will check and let know what should be fixed. The thing that I write is based on my experience. You sound like you are better than the technicians.

Every day, I browse over 300 webpages. So I have faced some Internet issues. If you want me to post a screenshot, I can post a screenshot of my browser history for today (Firefox and Chrome).

You are arguing that the raining internet slow down issue is due to outdoor cable or the electric enclosure boxes. If the cable has problem or the boxes had problem, you would have more likely experience slow browsing in normal time often, not just raining.

You didn't really know the electrical boxes did you? These boxes are weather proof which means water and wind can't go in. Usually problem doesn't come from there.

You should really ask somebody who is expert in the field first before you claim that heavy rain or thunderstorm have no effect on Internet speed. I have experienced it many times.

You know these raining affecting Internet speed issue, it is not just happening in Malaysia, in other countries like UK US also had.

Don't forget that TM UniFi & Maxis Fiber subscribers at high-rise condo/apartments, office buildings & shopping malls are using VDSL2, i.e. copper from the MSAN equipment in the building telecommunications room to the premise, while the fiber from the exchange terminates at the MSAN equipment.

It could be the faulty copper cables at the building that is causing disconnection during rain.

My just completed high rise apartment is equipped with fibre cabling already. According to the electrician, most new high rise developments will use fibre for telephone and broadband services rather than copper.

My condo here actually have a choice of TM UniFi as well as Maxis Fiber & P1 Fiber (both using TM's infrastructure as in most other places) and also TIME Fiber.

Despite having 4 choices since 2012, I took up the RM169 for VIP10 offer more than 1 year ago... still prefer to stick with TM - in my case, having HyppTV is good enough for me.

It was actually a RM30 discount offer: VIP5 to VIP10 for RM169, or VIP10 to VIP20 for RM229.

From what I know, this offer was available only for a while last year, provided TM calls you to offer the upgrade. If you call TM to do upgrade, you will only get RM20 discount, which is what you and many others got now regardless who made the call.
