This book is about Mr Louie Zamperini, an ex POW from USA. It doesn't say that its an autobiography but the whole book is about him. He was born to Italian immigrants in New York.
He took part in the 1935 Olympics, competing in the 5000m event. Then he served as a bombardier during the World War 2. He survived after his bomber was shot down and then he survived being a POW in Japan.
Read about the abuse and torture he experienced as a POW in Japan. Before this book, I couldn't really fathom why so many were against the PM of Japan visiting the Yasukuni Shrine.
This book is easy to read and a page turner, surprisingly. It will be made into a movie soon and will be directed by Angelina Jolie. Mr Zamperini is 97 years old this year, still very much alive. Read this book before watching the movie because I suspect the movie might not be as good as the book.
I give this book a score of 9/10.
