Harry Potter Spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Set for November 18, 2016

Warner Bros. has set their Harry Potter franchise spinoff, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, for release on November 18, 2016. The film, based on J.K. Rowling's world of witches and wizards and inspired by Harry Potter’s Hogwarts textbook of the same name, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will follow the adventures of the book’s fictitious author, Newt Scamander.

The first in a planned trilogy set in the wizarding world, the story will feature magical creatures and characters, some of which will be familiar to devoted Harry Potter fans. The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt's story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry's gets underway.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is the first to claim the November 18, 2016 date, although Walt Disney Pictures has a placeholder set for an untitled animated feature five days later.

I didn't know if its my high hope or the expectation after seeing it rate 100% at RT on early review, but it just didn't quite pleased me. The visual and world building is great but the dynamic between main characters and plots not so much. There so much happening in the first act that I didn't bother to care (even put me to good sleep a few minute).

Need to watch it again for its visual and to catch up what I've missed during my snooze. Maybe I'll like it better the second time.

Perhaps the best spinoff (of a big franchise) in recent years. This is how you should do it, cash-grabbers!

well, this movie exceeded my expectation. was expecting a kiddy movie ala the first harry potter, but ended up pleasantly surprised with the darker theme similar to the latter movies in the harry potter series.

oh and there's a surprise actor appearance near the end of the movie. similar to matt damon's appearance in Interstellar, who was not involved or shown in any of the movie's ads or promotion.

my only major gripe is with the acting of the main actor, eddie redmayne. i dont know, something's a bit off. i believe he is supposed to portray a weird character but ended up being a bit cringey lol.

character development a bit lacking, but since this is the first movie in the series (they planned 5 movies), im pretty sure jk rowling will take her sweet time to reveal more in depth on each of the characters' past.

a solid 8/10 from me smile.gif

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016)

Gosh, how am I to review this...

Truth to be told, the Harry Potter books got me back into reading books...

Then the movies came about, and they were actually decent adaptation of the books!

So, in short, I read all 7 books, and have to admit, I have not read the Fantastic Beast and Where to find Them... It is a thin book...

And I understand they are making a couple of this???!!!

Let me do it this way

The Good

I am NOT a fan of Eddie Redmayne. I understand he had won awards for his works, and I cannot remember being drawn by his acting skills... Until now...

Warner, hoping for another cash cow, spared no expense, and the production is GORGEOUS!

The Bad

Because it is a Warner Production, this HAS TO take place in America... Sigh...

They even introduced an American School of magic... Groan x 2....

The Ugly

Apart from Newt Scamander (and vaguely at that) there is HARDLY any character development!!?!

This also suffers from what I call "The Hobbit Syndrome". meaning, reference material, a story does not make!!!

So, certain parts were spectacular, others...

My Two Sen

Upon 2nd viewing, my impression on the movie increased a little bit. Because now I know, what's going on and what to expect. Turn out I did miss a lot during my snooze on the first viewing.

I watched both times at IMAX3D and the effect still impressive. I especially like the dark thingy sequence. So beautiful and engaging.

And I think kids will not enjoy it as much we adults do.

If anything, it just goes to show how American Sorcerers handles their problems, full blast battle magic to the threat and ask questions later.
I really thought they were gonna capture Ezra's character and keep him under magic lock and key but I guess that's how Americans do it.

I keep pronouncing his last name as Salamander haha, just noticed how he never really keeps eye contact with other characters when he was talking to them.

YASSSSSSS to this!

loved the cameo! he was announced to be in the sequel but i never expected to see him in this first one.

instead of the loooooooong scene of catching the rhino look alike at the central park, i thought they should have focused on building the Credence character. but other than that, no complains!

Who's Leta Lestrange?
*
Excerpt fron Harry Potter Wikia

"She's a taker. You need a giver."
—Queenie Goldstein to Scamander, regarding his former relationship with Leta.[src]
Leta Lestrange was a witch who, sometime between 1908 to 1916, had a "close relationship" with Newton Scamander while they were both students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, due to their outcast nature and love of studying magical creatures. One of Leta's experiments went wrong, endangering the life of another student. Rather than see his friend expelled, Newt took the blame and was expelled in her place.[4] This left him bitter, but still much in love with Leta.[5] Scamander kept a framed picture of her within his workshed during his travels to New York in late 1926.

When Queenie Goldstein was using Legilimency on Newt, she noted that Leta was "a taker" in their relationship.

Behind the scenes
Leta Lestrange is portrayed in the film inspired by Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by Zoë Kravitz.
According to director David Yates, we will learn more about Leta Lestrange, and Newt's relationship with her, in future movies in the franchise

It was decent, nothing to shout about. The set designs were great as always with these HP film universe, visual effects of the creatures were brilliant, and the supporting cast were top notch. The issue I found was the pacing which was slower towards the middle part and then starting picking up towards the end.

Not sure why they would need to recast Grindelwald, as Colin Farrell already did a splendid job.

Definitely looking forward to more sequels. A worthy watch for movie fans and a must watch for Harry Potter fans.

8/10.

Its basically just Harry Potter the Zoologist (or Pokemon master laugh.gif ) edition, nothing noteworthy tbh, a 6/10 movie

Colin Farrell was wasted massively in this movie imo, his character is so bland

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018)

Oh gosh, I did a movie marathon today, and am kinds exhausted, and I still want to complete this review.

SO if my spelling is out, or I don't make sense in general, go gentle on me....

This movie is one of Warner's big gun for the year, and it is...

I am getting ahead of myself.

Watching Part 1 & 2 of this is a little weird.

Why?

With the Harry Potters, I had read the book before I watched the movies, so I knew the story.

Where as with these movies, I really wasn't sure what to expect.

So did I go in with High Expectations?

You bet your bottom dollar.

Jude Law, Johnny Depp and surprisingly, a very sedated Ezra Miller??!?

So Newt's (Eddie Redmayne) adventure, continues.

The main gang from the first movie rerturns.

Some HUGE plot holes from the first movie are being patched here.

Leta Lestrange (Zoë Kravitz) is in this. In some way, this movie "is" about her.

Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) and Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) is explained. Also surprising the reason why Dumbledore did not go after Grindelwald much earlier on.

Nagini get a back story here.

Even Fawkes (I think) makes an appearance.

So what do I think of the movie?

A little bit of a mess.

In patching the plot holes of the first movie, this movie dug new ones for itself?

Why?

Because some of the ideas introduced here, contradicts the Harry Potter movies....

So, did my "perfection complex" stopped me from enjoying this movie?

Maybe it did.

My Two Sen....

P.S. Just found out there are going to be 5 of these (movies) What The *beep*

Still mixed feeling on this movie. I expected more revelations or nagini backstory or appearance as a snake like for one.
Second I really wanted Johnny depp to stand out more, coming from a fanboy who watch most of his movie. In here dia tak menyerlah sangat. other than ZOWU I expected more beasts thou like how the first one had. scenes at the grave tu when they were explaining backstories of each character I really think that they can do better la honestly. And and the introduction of baby nifflers was such a delight. But a mere less than 1 minute on screen time Saja of them. I expected more from them cute babies to wreck or steal shiny stuff
Sighhh just my 2 cents

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022)

I want to like this movie.

I really do.

I love the harry potter books and movies (well with the exception of one of the movie).

This is an expensive movie.

The producers, writers and director are Harry Potter Universe veterans.

If you do follow my reviews, the main issue I have with Fantastic Beast movies are the storyline.

I don't think there is a true idea of what they are trying to express to the audience or even a clear pathway to get to the end game

If it was really up to me, they should end the series with this movie.

It does come to some form of conclusion.

Gellert Grindelwald has so far been played by three actors and latest being Mads Mikkelsen.

I don't think Mads Mikkelsen has a strong grasp of Gellert.

I know Ezra Miller is in alot of kaka at this point in time. Seriously, he literally could have phone his performance for this movie in...

They expanded the wizarding world without much explanation and just assume the audience would "buy it".

Some of the Fantastic Beast is way WAY out there....

The only one that seems to hold it together is Jude Law as Albus Dumbledore, not sure if that is enough to keep the series going...

They just had so many things happening and did not know how to keep the audience's focus... Leaving the audience... lacking a better term... exhausted/fatigue...

Agreed with your review.

They need to put an end with this Fantastic Beast series.

The latest movie seems so messed up, lack of directions. I feel that they already out of idea. It's so obvious to be honest when I watched this movie.

The ending is really underwhelmed.

For actor part, Ezra Miller is too problematic. Johnny Depp keep going to court regarding his ex Amber Heard. It's not a good PR for this movie.

I'm not sure if I will watch the next installment if WB decided to do it.

No its darker and more complex than Harry Potter. So if u r not a Potterhead u might fell bored as they don't explain all the spells and magic in this movie.

Overall i really enjoy this movie.

Yes Dumbledore is gay. JK Rowling actually say it before. Just google bro. Its a not a secret anymore console.gif

And in Malaysia they cut a 6 second scene where Dumbledore was professing his love for Grindlewald.

early in the movie, when dumbledore was talking to grindelwald, he said "i love you" but the love was muffled out doh.gif
although at the end, grindelwald was not censored when asking who will love dumbledore anymore

FINAS not doing their job properly...

Mehh ever since they make his character gay i rather rooted for Newt. Well honestly if the show is spose to be about Fantastic Beast.. Newt is the main character here.

I never find all the scene of Dumbledore and Grindlewald interesting pun dry.gif

Can change the title to Dumbledore Life Story now.
