What matters most is that she likes the ring. Who cares how much it costs. Ask her directly what she wants and she will give you some hints, like my gf did

QUOTE(LiMcZ @ May 25 2019, 12:58 PM) hi, The places which are recommended by the sifu's here are definitely legit. This is from experience as I bought from WhiteFlash before and experienced their excellent customer service. So reliability is there. been spending sometime reading this thread planning for proposal , budget around 10k may i know what is the recommendation and i see most of the recommendation is the website from oversea, are they reliable ? However, the process for fund transfer can be a bit cumbersome. MoneyMatch is easy to use but still need to go through one-time setup and verification. Also, I also got into a small delay at Customs due to product description but that was sorted quickly though it costed me around 2 days of delay. So, don't wait until last minute especially if the proposal has a fixed date like on vacation or something. Then you have to find your own way to do the ring setting but the end result is a product of your preferences and is more unique than store-bought cookie cutter designs. I did mine at TJ and I do highly recommend them. Not only the setting was done beautifully, but I went back for a resize (not their fault, it was a surprise proposal and I had to improvise the finger measuring to avoid suspicion leading to slightly larger ring) and it was done quickly and without fuss. You do save some dough but take on a bit of risk and effort doing all these things yourself. Still, I think it's worth it and is a small but interesting experience by itself. However, if you still want a unique ring of your own preference and design but don't want to deal with the complexity of sourcing from multiple parties and confused by the many options, then I suggest you contact TheGemTribe. They can act as one-stop shop for your needs, but still offer a personalised concierge experience to customise whatever you like. Compared to those brick-and-mortar shops where the experience is very "mass market" and you just go into the shop and choose, they will sit down with you and talk about your preferences and parameters (both technical for the stone and of course your budget and the type of "feel" you want the ring to be). This is also from experience when I contacted them for a customised piece of jewellery. Do note I get nothing from recommending them, just sharing experience. Summary is I think both options are good depending on the effort you want to put in and convenience you prefer. I would only say you should avoid the traditional brick-and-mortar shops due to inconsistent quality and high prices. I went to so many surveying the prices and you do get less for the same price you would buying your own from WhiteFlash or sourcing through GemTribe. Good luck! |

QUOTE(LiMcZ @ May 27 2019, 12:27 AM) Thank you for the reply , As far as I know, both of them do provide ring setting service. The problem on the other hand, is probably the prices have to be negotiated as my own experience tells me that the initial price they throw at me is too expensive (> RM 2K).just Contacted Gem tribe , but seems like the reply is slow Also looking around for other option I only worry that the size of the ring need readjustment , Regarding the setting , does shop like Wah Chan or tomei provide the service ? I am not staying in KL , not sure where this TJ located Also, another point to note is that no jeweler will warranty you if anything happens during the stone setting process, but then, the risk is minimal if you choose a stone that is relatively safe - as in no crack/chip/feather at the edge of the stone. My suggestion is to try to look for some smaller jewelers that are reputable around your area to do the ring setting. Probably those family-run ones. If you are in Penang, then you can consider Frou Frou or Venessa Diamonds. Frou Frou price starts from around RM 2K from what I checked last time, but I would probably pay for that as their ring settings should be more solid than the typical brick-and-mortar store ones. You may want to compare the weight of the setting in terms of gram and see which one is heavier. And for your budget of RM 10k - If you buy typical GIA 3EX, you can land yourself on a 0.5ct E VS2 / 0.5ct F VS1: https://zcova.com/blog/15/zcova-engagement-rings-promotion https://www.tailoredjewel.com/shop/tjs-pick...taire-ring-14k/ (you can upgrade to 18k/platinum). Both of them can ship to you for free. You may contact both of them for stone options. For the safest diamond proportions, you may consider the parameters below: https://niceice.com/diamond-buying-secrets/...buying-success/ Now, this is only the number, we still need to see the overall cut quality. Both of these vendors operate using virtual inventory. This parameters are pretty close to the famous Tolkowsky Ideal Cut (TIC). As for The Gem Tribe, they source the stones by looking at the real stone (according to them). They have supplier locally. Now, they rely on their eyes to determine on which stone is the best and they may or may not follow the strict parameters I have provided, but I guess that's fair enough. Now, for online, you won't reach 0.5ct unless you scale down your colour or clarity, which I believe most people are reluctant to do it. However, for your budget, you can land yourself on a very very decent 0.4ct with high colour and high clarity, for example: https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/r...id=myengringexp (affiliate link) https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/r...id=myengringexp (affiliate link) https://www.hpdiamonds.com/en-us/diamonddetail/HPD9212 https://www.hpdiamonds.com/en-us/diamonddetail/HPD10410 I haven't go and see the videos of the diamonds from WhiteFlash, but the overall proportions and Hearts look pretty alright. Somtimes the hearts captured by photograph does not look that perfect, but the one captured by the one in the grading report looks pretty decent. So I would still say it is a very good diamond. As for High Performance Diamonds, the diamonds are Crafted by Infinity, its consistency in terms of performance and look are well-recognized by multiple owners, so I have no doubt in recommending any of their stones. Just note that the smaller 0.43ct seems to be and older stone so you may want to check with them whether they are second hand stones. I believe they aren't, but it is good to ask. The stones are moving slower probably because it is smaller in terms of carat to suit the consumers in US, and also probably because their prices used to be higher than their competitors, and also they are not as famous as the other competitors as well. As for https://black.briangavindiamonds.com/diamond?a_aid=myengexp (affiliate link), they do not have stones that are closer to the 0.5ct mark (0.45ct - 0.49ct), but they are worth to highlight because they simply cut the best Hearts among all competitors, and their Black collection has some unique flavour to it, but some may still call it a gimmick. The pairing of the crown angle and Pavilion angle is not ideal, as both are geared towards steepness. Suggest to buy only if you can see this diamond personally and like it. What is the price offered and what is your budget?https://www.gia.edu/report-check?reportno=2...s=1558970482692 |

QUOTE(CtrlAltDelicious @ May 28 2019, 03:46 PM) If at least 0.8ct... Then is abit challenging to find a good super ideal. For mind clean and eye clean purpose, i will probably get myself this one: https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/r...id=myengringexp (affiliate link) Update: If we can go higher colour, then this will be the one: https://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds...?a_aid=myengexp (affiliate link). In fact, check out the dimension, it is pretty similar to the WhiteFlash one above, meaning this diamond looks the same size, despite slightly lower carat weight. So this will be my first choice. Or you want the top of the line from Brian Gavin, then this will be a good choice: https://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds...?a_aid=myengexp (affiliate link) Brian Gavin does not provide free shipping, but then at this price point, I think you can try your luck to ask for free shipping to Malaysia. No guarantee, but worth a shot. This post has been edited by kambingkoh: May 29 2019, 12:10 PM |

QUOTE(tzehan_dk @ May 29 2019, 05:39 PM) @kambingkoh What do you think of these 3? Yes, I like the last one the most too. https://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds...#33;prettyPhoto[gallery2]/0/ https://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds...#33;prettyPhoto[gallery2]/3/ Like this the most: https://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds...#33;prettyPhoto[gallery2]/2/ There is some sort of calculation to determine whether how close the diamond is cut to its ideal weight. Just use its dimensions multiply by 0.0061: Diamond 1 - 6.88 X 6.90 X 4.25 X 0.0061 = 1.23ct Diamond 2 - 6.97 X 6.99 X 4.31 X 0.0061 = 1.28ct Diamond 3 - 7.14 X 7.17 X 4.41 X 0.0061 = 1.377ct <- This is the closes if to its actual weight! But other than that, I like the small table and the 34.5 CA pair with 40.8 PA. It is the closest you can get to the original Tolkowsky ideal cut in terms of both angles. |

Still new in this. Appreciate the feedback. Basically you select the stone you are interested in and pay to them via wire-transfer or bank TT. I recommend MoneyMatch (https://transfer.moneymatch.co/) because they have one of the lowest exchange rate. Then just wait for your insured Fedex shipment.Ok, so let's say I take this 0.566ct F VS2 diamond https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/r...id=myengringexp (affiliate link), after converting via MoneyMatch is RM 9016.01. You can use my referral code REF_ACOO to get RM 30 off. Add in a standard RM 8 transaction fee. This make the stone price to become RM 8994.01. Then add on a 18k white gold setting with a heart shape like this: https://memoryjewellery.com/product/memory-...erlasting-love/ at RM 1499.00. You can request them for comfort fit I believe, at a slightly higher price. Anyway, we use RM 1499 as standard first. So you have RM 9016.01 + RM 1499.00 = RM 10493.01. For a 0.566ct F VS2 with 18k white gold ring with a heart shape. So you can save like RM 7506.99, which is more than enough to get you a decent package for wedding photography. |
