What is it used for ? Seem like a fine built except that I'm not sure of the reliability of the power supply.

Just gaming + streaming (live capture screen and upload to website)
maybe dual monitor in 1080p ... just like that.

Do you have a specified budget to it?

That i7 kinda overpriced, rather get Xeon, only maybe slower by a couple of 0.1+ GHz, but seriously tho, what kind of budget do you have specified for this?
*
around 3k
that i7 is overpriced?
checked the website http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=In...3.60GHz&id=2226
it show this cpu is best value though ... in terms of performance vs price ... hmm

Dude, that's base on USD, also. These speed has so little next to none increase in performance cause it's just like 1 GHz above each other.

For a 3k build

Here's my suggestion.

Proc - Xeon 1230 V3 RM 799
Mobo - Asrock B85 Killer RM 299
HDD - 1TB WD Blue RM 189
RAM - 8 GB Value RAM RM 244
PSU - Antec VP 550w RM 199
GPU - Gainward GTX 760 RM 799
Casing - Bitfenix Shadow RM 229
Custom Cooler - Scythe Ashura RM 179

Prices costed RM 2,937.
*
not sure about the proc ... but the Mobo , wow this suggestion is much more better

or maybe he can buy a not very high end graphic card now for a low price... then 2 years later change another to another same type of card for a low price on that time? maybe that will be more effective on both performance and cost?

first of all, many thanks sifu Minecrafter for your time replying to my message
Your suggestion looks very solid..
-but do enlighten me on why do you suggest Xeon and not the usual i7 4770?
-is zotac a reliable brand for a gpu?
-8GB for ram is enough? i m thinking of using it to make some college video with all that rendering and stuffs

sorry for asking to many questions,as you can see im very newb, and building rig isnt actually one of my specialty.  icon_rolleyes.gif
*
I also just built a rig recently and done some research... maybe can help u a bit, but i also newbie.

Xeon is good for if you only perform normal task and gaming.
If you are doing rendering and stuffs, I think it is better to go for core i7 if budget allow.
I didn't OC my desktop, so I went for i7-4790, if you plan to OC, maybe 4770k or even 4790k

i7-4790 use DMI2 while Xeon E3 1230v3 use DMI.
Differences between DMI2 and DMI
Source : http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-212...ssors-dmi2.html

Xeon require ECC RAM which means you unable to use 1866mhz ram and above.

i3 suggest for 1333mhz ram
i5 = 1600mhz , i7 = 1600mhz above

so if you plan to go like those 2400mhz ram, it is better to part with i7.

But he mention he is doing some video rendering and editing ... isn't that better to go with core i series...? no? I not really sure @@

i have some question to ask! Bear with me because im a computer idiot sweat.gif  sweat.gif
is that such cooling and ventilation system is a must for such rig? Can i save budget from the casing and cooler?

need your opinion  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif
and where does the price list from? hmm.gif
thx for your recommendation  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif
*
The price list i grab from previous sifu... and others from viewnet
http://www.viewnet.com.my/downloads/viewne...y_pricelist.pdf

Below is just my opinion, I also newbie desktop user, you might wanna seek for other sifu on more accurate opinion.

Without decent cooling and ventilation system, yes your pc still will work, but when you do massive workload like rendering those, if it exceeds its temperature, it will either lower the performance of the GC to lower the temperature, or it just continue and it will do damage to your processor or graphic card. So for me, I need my pc to last long, so i will pay extra few hundred just to maintain the temperature and reduce the risk of lowering lifespan of my processor and graphic card(since both of them are not cheap)

Is your room using aircond?

No, will just use it in normal room temperature
but with Minecrafter and rav3n82 recommendation I think it will be fine with their cooling and ventilation system
I not a hardcore gamer so I won't go for OC

So what if I change the casing to CM K380 as what they suggested? Is the cooler still fit into the casing or it will stuck? hmm.gif
*
I not worry about OC, I just worry about when you render only... scare it will overheat and auto-shutdown... well maybe that hardly happen on desktop, for the cooler will it fit in CM K380 , I does not know... you need ask sifus lol...

Your suggestion looks like from IdealTech's price list..how is it from Viewnet? tongue.gif

AFAIK,the PC/Laptop shuts itself down when it's too hot. wink.gif
EDIT:CM K380's Maximum CPU Height is 155CM.The cooler is 156.45CM.

Get Scythe Katana 4 RM89 from IdealTech instead.

haha like i mention , some of the parts i just copy previous sifu, other like processor and GPU is from viewnet , i didnt open idealtech pricelist , lol

ok good, I will go with seagate then. Most likely I will visit Idealtech next week.

+ Do you happen to have read any good article read on routers,I dont have experience on this but I always hear theres a big difference in gaming online experience (right now using DSL 2640B given from tmnet streamyx 4mbps package) so I would want to switch too if I can enhance online experience, even for streaming, if it will make a difference.
*
streaming? u do streaming?
I am currently using my default router from tm unifi.
Using 20mbps line, only turn on 1 game and stream 720p, it still takes up a lot of the line, my ping of the game from 23 become 74 ...

fan cooling vs liquid cooling vs all in one liquid cooling

which more cost/performance worth?

i5-4690
h97 board with intel LAN
8gb 2400mhz ram
120gb SSD
gtx 760
650w platinium psu
mid tower casing + cooling(air/all in one water)

will cost around how much? and is it good?

I see. It's the EarthWatts Platinum series. Better, but also not really cheap. Alternatively, the HCG-520M series is also a good option, as it is based on the same platform as the Seasonic M12 II 520W.

Your processor is a non-OC one, so I think no point to go for high end custom WC loop, which will costs you thousands of dollars. tongue.gif

So that leaves you with either AIO kit or air cooler. I personally recommend just going for budget air cooler like CM Hyper 212X, it will easily match or even surpass those low end AIO kit (e.g Corsair H60, Seidon 120V etc..).
*
what if comparing medium or even high-end AIO kit vs air cooler in terms of performance/price ? I doesn't care about how loud will the fan be.

I personally kind of prefer AIO kit because it cover the whole processor so there is no space between processor that allow dust to go in.

In terms of price/performance, I believe a decent air cooler is still better. The monstrous Noctua NH-D15 for example, can easily win even the high end Corsair H100i and CM Nepton 140XL, you can see the review here.

The only reason I would go for AIO is due to the clean and minimalistic layout, I don't personally favor big air coolers anyway. tongue.gif
*
I see. So in terms of performance high end air cooler > high end AIO , right? Just the difficulty is the cleaning process ? ok. Get it now.

QUOTE(Human10 @ Jul 17 2014, 01:59 PM)
High end air cooler like Noctua D15 can easily comparable to pretty much all AIO.
*
it will create stress for motherboard because it's almost hanging on the motherboard?
