From the chart, the M5A97 R2.0 looks pretty ok with your FX-8350. However, do consider my earlier suggestion if you're really going for OC (mild or hardcore).

Hi folks! Looking to build a new all-purpose rig that will be used primarily as my main computer for gaming/surfing/watching movies.

Current Rig
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 @ 2.93GHz
MOBO: Gigabyte EP43T-UD3L
GPU: ATI Asus EAH5750 (1GB)
Ram: 8GB

[Budget] RM1000

[Hardwares that will be re-use] Reusing RAM (I have 16gb of spare ram sticks), monitors, hard drives and DVD drive

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Random MMOs (WoW, Aion, MMO-flavour of the month tongue.gif), Thief 3 etc

[Personal preferences] As budget is a bit of a problem, I plan on reusing as many of the peripherals as I can while attempting to get a PC that will hopefully last me for the next 2-3 years with minimal upgrades. After asking around, friends have told me that I can get by with upgrading just the mobo/cpu/gpu as well as a new casing and power supply if budget permits. Hoping to get some advice from all the knowledgeable and experienced folks here biggrin.gif

Palit GTX 750 StormX OC - RM420 (GBros)
Gigabyte GZ Series Casing - RM69
Gigabyte PoweRock 420W PSU - RM95

Total – RM1107 (prices are from Viewnet)

Aye, all of my ram sticks are DDR3 (after learning the hard way back in the day that DDR2 =/= DDR3). Just wondering tho, why the Asrock mobo instead of the more known brands like MSI/Gigabyte? I recall Asus boards seem to be the best but that usually comes with a hefty price tag sad.gif

Hi All,

I am new to build a Rig. Totally is newbie. It is just like I learn few days ago.

[Budget]:RM4k+-

[Purpose]: Gaming.

Any suggestion guys for my Rig? And I am not really understand what is Overclock even I go and study some threads. Will it cause harm/damage to the PC?

By the way. 4k Rig can last for how long? I mean if another 2 years they come out with high graphic games, can I still able to play it smoothly?

Thanks in advance for all your reply.
Appreciate it.

Guys, just wanna update you all.

I got new rep board from Asrock already. According to them, the free repair / exchange only can be made during 6 month of purchase.

After 6 month, in the event the board is faulty by human error (in this case cpu socket pin bent) will be chargable.
The rest issue will be treated as normal RMA. So i think feel free to purchase any Asrock board. laugh.gif

Here ya go. Gaming based system. Should last you more than two years easily.if you take care.

Intel Core i5-4460 = RM599
ASRock B85 Killer = RM299
Powercolor R9 290 PCS+ 4GB = RM1650
Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB 1600Mhz Single= RM255
1TB WD Caviar Blue 3.5" SATA = RM193
Samsung EVO 840 128GB = RM300
Seasonic M12II-620 Watt Power Supply = RM359
Corsair Carbide Series® SPEC-03 = RM205

Total : RM3860.

You can use the extra money to upgrade casing to NZXT Source 530 @ RM320 or add extra RAM. A motherboard upgrade is also possible.

Btw, don't bother about overclocking. It does nuts for gaming or everyday computing, unless you're chasing benchmarks scores For fun.

All haswell chips can be used in haswell refresh boards. That's why its still classified under LGA1150 but under Series 9 rather than Series 8.

But thats mostly based on my observations with Z97/H97 boards being compatible with our current 4770K/4770 chips.

Not so sure about the other way around. But again, it's all classified under LGA1150.

Did a quick check on the B85 Killer CPU support list, and it can support those Haswell Refresh processors. Just would need a BIOS update I believe.

The GPU would be upside down anyways. Lel. Up to him though. He decides on what color he wants. Like I said he can also change the mobo.

Hello Sifu. Want some suggestions

Im planning to build a rig between 2k-2.5k
Im thinking of getting an i3 processor and focus more of my budget on a better gc ( is that even relevant?)

For brand preference, No Asrock Mobo
prefer nvidia graphic card
and a bitfenix prodigy casing.

games to be played: bf4. bf3. dota2
-willing to top up to make my dreams come true-

Do you need a monitor? Why settle for i3, when you can have an i5? biggrin.gif

Though if going for Bitfenix Prodigy, it may break your budget.

Intel Core i5 4440 – RM559
Asrock B85M-G – RM279
Corsair Value Ram 8GB DDR3 1600MHz – RM244
WD Caviar Blue 1TB HDD - RM179
Zotac GTX 760 AMP! Edition – RM899 (Cycom)
Cooler Master K380 Casing - RM149
FSP Hexa 500W PSU - RM149
Lite-On 24x DVDRW – RM59

Total - RM2517 (prices are from Viewnet)

Optional:
Bitfenix Prodigy-M - RM319 (lingloong)
