your advice is always good =)

someone quoted me gainward GTX, but i was looking at MSI as well. should i even consider 4gb with a 1k budget for GPU?
*
Like I stated in my previous post, unless you planning to SLI it in future, no use to get 4GB. Its all over the net that the extra 2GB of GTX760 is practically useless.

Are there any alternatives for the PSU? I dont mind spending a little bit more since i've learnt my lesson not to skimp on them >.>

Also, no plans to upgrade, so I can go as low as 400W.
*
That should be an OK unit of PSU. Cheaper would mean Antec VP450 at RM130, while pricier mean Antec VP550 at RM200, of which both unit is same OEM as the FSP Hexa. Alternatively, there is silverstone strider essential 500W at RM200 also.

If you really willing to pay, try to top up till RM300 and get a Seasonic PSU.

BTW, what is your GPU?

An undervolted Gigabyte HD6770 . Shitty card gets pretty hot when under load.

The FSP Hexa should do the job as you say you didn't plan to upgrade in future.

Guys, is this a good spec? Price mixed from idealtech/lingloong/viewnet

Processor : Intel core i5-4670K - RM769
Motherboard : Asus Maximus VII Ranger - RM699
SSD : Samsung 840 EVO 250GB - RM559
RAM : Avexir Blitz 1.1 Original 2x4GB DDR3 2400Mhz - RM399
Graphic card : MSI N660 Gaming 2GD5/OC - RM799
Cooler : Larkooler Skywater 330L - RM399
PSU : Corsair HX650 - RM400
DVD : Samsung S-SATA 24x DVD-RW - RM59
Monitor : 2pcs Dell U2312HM 23" - RM589 x2
Speaker : Logitech z313 - RM129
Case : NZXT PHANTOM 530 - RM475

Trying to fit into RM5K budget but went overboard. A little bit of help is appreciated.
*
Cut from the RAM and mobo.

The GPU is too dated (pretty much EOLed in the market) and doesn't justify in a set of 5k rig, try to get minimumly a GTX760.

Overall, I won't call it a good specs for a RM5k rig (or I should say RM4k since you spent RM1k+ for the monitor). The stuffs are good/cool/premium but they don't aid in making your rig powerful. It's better focus more punch on the GPU/GPU first b4 concentrating on fancy cool looking RAM/MOBO/CASE/COOLER.

i5 4670k (769)
Asrock Z87 Extreme4 (549)
840 EVO 250GB (559)
8GB Hyper X Fury (289)
GTX760 (799)
Decent Air cooler (200)
Antec/Seasonic PSU (300)
DVD (60)
Monitor (1180)
Speaker (130)
Sub 200 budget case (200)

Total - 5035

I assume you are going for a OC built since you opt for an unlocked low mid tier CPU over higher tier newer CPU.

Case - 250
Air cooler - 250
8GB RAM - 300
1TB HDD - 200
128GB SSD - 300
Dell Ultrasharp Monitor - 850
DVD - 60

Subtotal = RM2210.

Since still pretty much budget left, you can either opt for fancier case/cooler or a larger (256GB) SSD.

Alternatively, you can try to sell your current mobo and CPU and opt for a non-OC Intel built and safe some pennies from buying a cooler.

p/s: Just noticed that I missed out the PSU. Get a Antec/Seasonic PSU within your budget.

Thx for your advise. How about
Processor: core i5 4460 - rm569
Mainboard: asus b85 pro gamer - rm379
Ram: 4gb pc 1333/1600 8c - rm129
Display card: g-byte gt650 oc 2gb d5 128bit - rm499
Hdd: 1tb sata - rm174
Optical drive: DVD - rm-59
Casing: cm k380 - rm149
Power supply: cooler master elite v2 500w - rm159
Monitor: Samsung s22c170bs - rm359

Any amendment need to be made? Please advise. Thanks all
*
LOL, you add all of them together also breach your stated budget already...

Anyway, opt for cheaper mobo (avoid Asus if you don't have enough budget).

RAM if possible opt for 8GB in a stick, cheaper (per size) and potentially better resale value.

GTX650 is dated and near EOL stuff already, better get GTX750TI.

Some Cooler Master PSU is having bad reputation and questionable reliability. For budget rig, you can opt for FSP/Antec PSU under RM200.

You might want to get a more decent monitor nowadays.

Usually this HDD is suggested. But what exact model number and specs does it refer to? What's the Interface, Buffer Size, RPM, Cache?
*
3.5" WD Blue it is.

Normal consumer use WD HDD only 3 types, Green, Blue and Black.

Hi guys,

I would like to ask a few things here to sifu:

1) Why do people recommend Asrock motherboard over ASUS (I am seeing b85 Pro Gamer for performance + value)
2) I am leaning towards nvidia too. Is it worth the squeeze @ RM 150+ for gtx 760 OC vs the normal
3) DDR 3 1600 vs 1866, does it make a difference in gaming?

thanks
*
1) Because Asus can be seriously overpriced sometimes. And you call B85 Pro Gamer a value at RM379?!?!? shocking.gif I wondering what do you feel so value about it. hmm.gif
2) 150 is quite a big percentage of RM800 already. Chance are you won't even get as much performance increase as the increase in price. If you willing to spend, might as well get a R9 280x, IINM cheapest one cost around 1k only.
3) The differences are minimal to non.

Thanks all for the prompt reply.

For Asrock B85 Killer, I did not manage to find it under the Viewnet latest list. Where can I get that @ the price suggested Minecrafter?

Mainly I am looking for at least 2 USB 3.0 ports, one for SSD at least.
*
Idealtech

Most (if not all) mobo nowadays sure will have 2USB 3.0 ports.

One for SSD means?

SATA III ports.

But yeah I guess the mainstream mobos have all that I want smile.gif I trust I do not need extra sound card anymore? My last desktop was year 2007 and now I returned from my studies, at that time audigy 2 was my sound card and I hear over these years (when I lagged behind in PC world), mobo sound is as good for gaming.

Thanks a lot guys!

Right now I will go for
CPU: i5 4440 3.1GHz - rm554
MOBO: Asus h81m-k - rm199
Ram: corsair 8gb d3 1600mhz - rm244
Gpu: sapphire r9 270x dual-x 2gb - rm689
Hdd: WD cavier blue 1tb - rm174
Odd: liteon 24x dvdrw - rm59
Casing: cm k380 - rm149
Psu: fsp hexa 500w
Monitor: Samsung s22c170bs 22' - rm359
TOTAL: rm2576

1) may I know what's the k in asus h81m-k stand for? What's the diff between it and pro gamer? Because if not mistaken, what the salesperson told me is he worries h81m-k can't afford to support i5 4460.

2) any suggestion on MOBO other than asus? Which as rock is good enough to support it? Totally have zero knowledge on it 😰

3)
*
1) That is probably some naming scheme of Asus, details I not too sure. It should be compatible, but with BIOS update first.
http://support.asus.com/Cpusupport/List.as...H81M-K&p=1&s=45

2) If mobo suggestion, I will suggest anything better than B85, for which H81 don't have PCIe 3.0. Not too critical to be a problem now but who know in future you might want to upgrade a powerful GPU, then it may make a different. If you want specific model, Asrock B85 Killer seems to be a good fit between price, feature and look. Else, just opt for whatever B85 you found the cheapest (though do note on the number of PCI(e) slots on them if you plan to add any PCI(e) expansion cards such as WifiCard).

ok good, I will go with seagate then. Most likely I will visit Idealtech next week.

+ Do you happen to have read any good article read on routers,I dont have experience on this but I always hear theres a big difference in gaming online experience (right now using DSL 2640B given from tmnet streamyx 4mbps package) so I would want to switch too if I can enhance online experience, even for streaming, if it will make a difference.

Nothing beat subscribing to a higher bandwidth internet service like Unifi/Maxis Fibre. You may be amazed by how much superior Unifi/Maxis Fibre over the 4M Screamyx once you tried it.

Additional Question:
1. i wish to know if old 160GB IDE hdd will be able to compatible with the rig that i'm building..
that will be for win xp only
2. Will laptop hdd make a good additional storage space? have an extra from laptop.

Note: Yup is a dual OS(xp and win7) rig.
Thank you all~
*
Nope, it's being a long time since IDE being ditched. Mobo/PSU nowadays only SATA port available.

You can use laptop HDD (SATA) and shouldn't have any issue.

this 1 really good ah?

what do u guys think abt this rig (quoted price by feiton, maybe some cheaper bcos i ask for full rig not parts by parts) :
CPU:Intel Pentium G3258 LGA 1150 - RM215 -->gonna OC to 4.7ghz or 4.8ghz later
Mobo:Asus B85M-G - RM255 -->compatible with G3258
GPU: Gainward GTX750Ti GS - RM470
Ram: Kingston hyper X fury 4GB 1600mhz - RM145
HDD: WD Blue 1TB - RM177
PSU: Antec EA-Platinum-550-NC - RM299
Casing: Cooler Master N300 Mid Tower Casing - RM130
Monitor:Dell S2340L - RM545

Total RM2236 ...speaker, keyboard, mouse i alrdy have. network connection using LAN (no need buy wifi card), ODD no need.
hmm.gif
*
IINM, not all chip can OC over 4.5ghz, it all back down to your luck. So, don't hold your hope too high up first, and good luck for you.

As suggested, above, you also need a 3rd party cooler for OC. CM 812 cost around RM120+ should do the job good enough.

Cut down a little budget from the RAM by going value RAM if you feel it is necessary.

Although what we normally recommend is to get a good PSU, your PSU seems a little too good and overbudget for your rig (infact the whole system of G3258 with GTX750TI most probably won't even breach 300W, or even 250W).

ok, got it.
btw im referring to the RM299 in below pic.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

it's different than VP550. the EA-550 Platinum is better i guess with 85% efficiency compared to VP550P with 82% efficiency. i cant even find VP550P in the garage sales anymore.
CM TPC 812 is this one right? btw this is promotion for return customer only...
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

i've seen feiton's lelong profile and it's stated there he is selling it at RM120 -->Link

To powerup some monster rig, you don't look at the efficiency first, the wattage first.
