thanks for the recommendation ,what is the different between Asrock H81M-DGS and Asrock H81M-VG4, the reason i asked this is because i can't find H81M-DGS in viewnet list since i will be purchasing it online
*
QUOTE(rav3n82 @ Jun 29 2014, 05:36 PM)
If I am not mistaken, it's the onboard display output that is different only.
*
Yup,the Asrock H81M-VG4 only have D-Sub,the H81M-DGS have DVI-D and D-Sub. nod.gif

Hello wise sifus,

I am thinking of building a extreme gaming rig that would last at least 4-5 years without upgrading #pcmasterrace

How can i maximize my budget of 4-5k

[pc usage] hardcore gaming..think titanfall 60 fps and hoping to play all the latest game during that duration with no difficulty, tongue.gif occasional photoshop and sony vegas works, movie watching etc..

and i dont think i oc'd before, but if it is a good thing to try, i will think of it..

thanks in advance =D
*
4-5 years?We'll see,cause games these days are becoming more demanding. hmm.gif tongue.gif

first of all, many thanks sifu Minecrafter for your time replying to my message
Your suggestion looks very solid..
-but do enlighten me on why do you suggest Xeon and not the usual i7 4770?
-is zotac a reliable brand for a gpu?
-8GB for ram is enough? i m thinking of using it to make some college video with all that rendering and stuffs

sorry for asking to many questions,as you can see im very newb, and building rig isnt actually one of my specialty.  icon_rolleyes.gif
*
1.Differences between Xeon E3-1230 V3 and i7 4770 AFAIK
Are
a.Only .1GHz slower.
b.Cheaper.. brows.gif
c.No iGP. nod.gif

2.Zotac's fine. nod.gif And their warranty is 3yrs local + 2yrs Zotac(direct).. brows.gif brows.gif

3.Rendering with Sony Vegas right?I'm sure it's enough. nod.gif

No problem! smile.gif

I also just built a rig recently and done some research... maybe can help u a bit, but i also newbie.

Xeon is good for if you only perform normal task and gaming.
If you are doing rendering and stuffs, I think it is better to go for core i7 if budget allow.
I didn't OC my desktop, so I went for i7-4790, if you plan to OC, maybe 4770k or even 4790k

i7-4790 use DMI2 while Xeon E3 1230v3 use DMI.
Differences between DMI2 and DMI
Source : http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-212...ssors-dmi2.html

Xeon require ECC RAM which means you unable to use 1866mhz ram and above.

i3 suggest for 1333mhz ram
i5 = 1600mhz , i7 = 1600mhz above

so if you plan to go like those 2400mhz ram, it is better to part with i7.
*
Intel Xeon E3-1230 V3 is fine with Value Ram. wink.gif

But he mention he is doing some video rendering and editing ... isn't that better to go with core i series...? no? I not really sure @@
*
Intel Xeon E3-1230 V3 has the same amount of cores and threads as the i7 4770. nod.gif
Only .1Gh slower,no iGP and cheaper.And it's not overclockable.

QUOTE(godslayer696 @ Jun 30 2014, 06:30 PM)
i did some reading also and came across the exact thing that you said, hence the question above to sifu minecrafter.
and may i arise some question

-how will it affect my pc performance if i were to use RAM with low RPM
-how much is it the difference(in cost) if core i7 were to be use in this build

iknew with my limited budget i cant expect much of a grand build  cry.gif
*
1.1600Mhz instead of e.g. 2400Mhz?
Little to no difference.

2.About RM170-190 increase. tongue.gif

Hi,

I would like to ask for a gpu suggestion for my desktop that recently died due to corrupt vbios and it isnt working but fan is still running. I dont have the right skill to solder one of the chip pin 8 and 1 to recover the vbios file.

Lets get to the point, I wanna find a replacement (or temporary) for my old gpu. My gpu is HIS HD3870 ICEQ3 GDDR4 512MB with factory OC of 850/1190. The thing is, I want to have the replacement gpu that has similar performance or better to my broken gpu and of course, I prefer a full length pci bracket smile.gif

Any help and suggestion about a cheap replacement that is similar to my current gpu is greatly appreciated. Do tell me if I posted this at a wrong thread since I didnt want to flood the forum with 'similar' old other threads that has similar topics

Thank you in advance

Yea this is for OC set.

Alternatively, Im thinking of another non-OC set:

CPU: Intel Core i5 4460
MOBO: Asrock H97 Fata;ity Killer
RAM: GSkill AEGIS 8GB DDR3 1600mhz
HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1TB
SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB

ODD: Liteon 24x Sata DVDRW
Peripheral: CM Storm Devastator
GPU: Leadtek GTX780 TI OC
LCD: Dell U2414H

Which one is better in term of gaming?
*
GTX780Ti is faster than the 290,i'm sure the build above is better than the OC build. nod.gif

The question is..are you gonna overclock? If you're gonna overclock, then go with the OC build. wink.gif

Hmmm.. it depends.. if the OCed OC build is better than the non-OC build, I will go for that one  biggrin.gif

But then since you said the one powered by GTX 780 Ti is better, and both of them have similar pricing I believe, why do I need to overclock my pc then?  hmm.gif

Thanks for your quick reply anyway!
*
About that.. hmm.gif I guess some people overclock so they can get the max out of their PC or it could minimize the bottlenecking if they upgrade to a newer card that the processor bottlenecks?I may be wrong though.

I believe this mainly applies for older CPUs or CPUs of slower speed. From this interesting read here, you can see that there is no difference running a i7 4770K at stock or even at 4.5 GHz in Watch Dogs. Current Core i5 is fast enough for any GPU out there in the market.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

However, slightly slower AMD FX 8350 do gain some FPS when overclocked.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

And then, there is another review on Thief, and there is indeed some gains from overclocking. So the overclocking gain does depend on games after all.
*
I wasn't sure if overclocking the CPU would gain extra FPS in every games. tongue.gif Guess it all depends on the game.
Thanks raven. notworthy.gif

Thanks a lot Minecrafter, this helps a lot!  biggrin.gif

Just a few quick questions:-

1) Will the CPU bottle neck my GPU?
2) 2nd Question is about the GPU. I'm a bit outdated so I might not know if this has changed or not. But Radeons GPUs generate a lot of heat, won't this affect my performance since my computer area is hot? (Bad experience last time, 2 of my Radeon GPU burnt till i swapped to Nvidia).
3) Been hearing a lot of problems with Radeon Drivers compatabilities with games compared to Nvidia.

Thanks again

No problem!

1.Of course not.
2.Nah,the MSI R9 290 Gaming is fine. nod.gif
3.I'm sure the drivers are way better than 5-6 years ago. biggrin.gif

If that is the case, what kind of mobo can be used for future gen intel proc? I could just upgrade the CPU and maintain any other parts.

Content downloading would be primary usage i.e. P2P, etc. Office work might also include some light design work, photoshop/video editing, etc. Light gaming would basically be like FIFA, etc. Is GPU necessary? Or advisable to upgrade in future? Thinking of a budget 1k - 1.2k max without monitor.
*
Eh,IMO playing FIFA isn't light gaming. tongue.gif Anyway,if u'rr gonna play FIFA15 when it's out,you need to lower the settings. nod.gif http://help.ea.com/en/article/fifa-15-pc-m...m-requirements/

QUOTE(TheHitman47 @ Jul 3 2014, 02:54 PM)
room temp doesnt really play a big role if you have good cooling system in your rig.
some good air cooling sometimes are better than AIO liquid cooling.
since your office work are including some rendering stuff, it think its better for you to get the i5.
but with that budget..im not so sure.

did rav3n82 already give you some parts suggestion?
*
Then Xforged needs to save more money.

I just need to find gpu replacement that has same or more performance as my broken HIS HD3870 ICEQ3 512MB GDDR4 TURBO factory oc 850/1190

I gotta say, this gpu is very good in my personal experience, able to play borderlands 2 with full hd and full qualities although it will lag for the first load

If you could, a list of suggestions and price.

Thank you in advance

The price list i grab from previous sifu... and others from viewnet
http://www.viewnet.com.my/downloads/viewne...y_pricelist.pdf

Below is just my opinion, I also newbie desktop user, you might wanna seek for other sifu on more accurate opinion.

Without decent cooling and ventilation system, yes your pc still will work, but when you do massive workload like rendering those, if it exceeds its temperature, it will either lower the performance of the GC to lower the temperature, or it just continue and it will do damage to your processor or graphic card. So for me, I need my pc to last long, so i will pay extra few hundred just to maintain the temperature and reduce the risk of lowering lifespan of my processor and graphic card(since both of them are not cheap)

Is your room using aircond?
*
Your suggestion looks like from IdealTech's price list..how is it from Viewnet? tongue.gif

AFAIK,the PC/Laptop shuts itself down when it's too hot. wink.gif

QUOTE(veronica93 @ Jul 3 2014, 05:12 PM)
No, will just use it in normal room temperature
but with Minecrafter and rav3n82 recommendation I think it will be fine with their cooling and ventilation system
I not a hardcore gamer so I won't go for OC

So what if I change the casing to CM K380 as what they suggested? Is the cooler still fit into the casing or it will stuck? hmm.gif
*
EDIT:CM K380's Maximum CPU Height is 155CM.The cooler is 156.45CM.

Get Scythe Katana 4 RM89 from IdealTech instead.

Thank you for your reply, is there any other brand that is on par?

I still considering to revive my old his hd3870 iceq3 because i would think that this broken card of mine quite a legend, especially back in 2007.

Due to my own personal experience to this broken card of mine, I kinda preferred HIS brands XP.

Also, where can I do an 'online' order for this sapphire card?

i guess, every custom pc builder needs a secondary backup gpu huh X(

I think that's the only card that performs similar/slightly faster than the HD3870. wink.gif

You can't find HIS GPUs here, unfortunately.
