Hello guys, I will take STPM 2014/2015.I made the decision to study Form Six as it is very cheap compare to any other pre-u and it provides wider range of choices after finishing it.

However, may I know is Stpm have the high chances to get accepted into top uni in US and SG?

As I know,SAT is needed to go to US uni, but since I am taking STPM ,can I take the SAT or should I say do I have the time to take SAT?

I know STPM need to study really hard . Since then, can I still participate in extra cocuriculum activities? I do not want to lose my life T_T ( AND CCC is also important to get in the uni in US right?)

Thanks in advance smile.gif

STPM is recognized in the US as an A-level equivalent, and might even be regarded with most prestige due to its difficult nature.

You will need to take the SAT REGARDLESS of whether you take STPM or A levels or IB, but you may choose to take the SAT on different dates, as long as it is not before January (December for some, most universities will have application deadlines on New year)

You will need to take both SAT and STPM if you wanna go to IVY league or other university in US or around the globe.

Well I scored four flat in stpm last year and have accepted by NUS and NTU in sg as well as unis in UK. It is quite easy to got accepted by NTU as long as you can score 3.92. For the co-curriculum part, you should choose wisely, join those clubs or activities or competitions at international or national level and try to avoid some activities at school level only, unless you feel that it wont affect your study and you really enjoy it then go ahead thumbup.gif As now stpm has changed to new modular system in which you have to sit for the real exam for about every five months (deduct holidays), there will not have sufficient time for you to active in school co-curricular activities, well I couldn't make it, if you think you are capable then no problem biggrin.gif

Can you give suggestions of international and national competitions that F6 students can join? So far, I'm only active at school level.

Actually it depends on what is your strength. If you good at math, you can go take part in math olympiad competitions. If good at sports go for state competition first and if you win it you can go to national level. There are many competition s at state level just have to ask your co-curriculum teachers or your form six friends in other schools or even internet and newspapers.

I am going to study in NTU this august if I got any scholarship. So far haven't get any news yet from the scholarship i applied. Most of them are provided by sg like Singapore scholarship, ASEAN and so on.

Thanks, so far only shortlisted for several scholarship agencies for interview. Hmm if sports then there are many basketball, badminton, football at state level organized only for form six ( almost every year there is ), if you are a physics student you may go and participate in some competitions related to your study like robotics competition. Anyway you have to let me know which field you are strong in only i could help you. blush.gif

Doing that might set you back by a year since the deadline for universities is usually on Jan 1? Which means you will only get to submit your application on Jan 1 2017 and enter in Fall 2017. Unless you don't mind it.

Because I will only receive my STPM results on March 2016. If I manage to do my SAT in around May or June of 2016, I still only can submit my application on Jan 2017? icon_question.gif

Yes. The deadline for each batch is January 1. So if you take it in May/ June 2016, you would have missed it already and have to wait to apply at the end of that year (which closes on Jan 1 2017). Which means you would be admitted in Fall 2017. Try to take your SAT in May/ June 2015 and apply just at the end of your Upper Six. You don't need your actual STPM results. Another thing is that you cannot take SAT I and II on the same exam date. So you need to keep two dates available.

Nope. Lol. I'm still in Upper Six. You can also take SAT in Oct/ Nov/ Dis (not very sure) so maybe take one during mid-year and one at the end of the year? Yea, it sort of clashes with our semester exams. Have you heard about USApps? They do workshops so see if you can go to one.

You can take any pre-u (STPM, A Levels, IB) you want along with SAT. You can also apply with SPM but I think it's unlikely to get into an Ivy League uni.

yes I am one of the guinea pig of the new modular system, thanks man! I am from physics stream, I did quite bad in sem one, better in sem two and finally four flat in sem 3 biggrin.gif I retake sem one and two. On the contrary, my school teachers encouraged us to retake and I do will encourage you to retake even you got A- in any subject. I have one friend managed to score 3.92 in sem 1, four flat in sem 2 and 3 and yet overall can only get 3.92. So it is a smart choice to retake. Hmm I am not sure whether they really look on my co-curriculum activities or not, but so far all my friends who scored 3.92 and above got the offer from NTU, NUS would be harder and i guess they really look at the co-curriculum activity.

For STPM, I think you only need to get 4Bs to get in NUS (couple of friends studied there, including bro)
