Under System 9, the ability to connect using PPPoE is not built into the system. Hence you need a 3rd party software to implement such a connection to Streamyx. Unfortunately, you can't buy the software - there are 2 actually, Enternet and MacPoet - since it was always provided by the ISP. In the early days, Streamyx did provide the MacPoet version, but I think they no longer support it.

The link here shows how to make the connection using the Enternet software (software end-of-life), if your friend can get hold of that software.

http://www.99main.com/support/macos/macdsl.shtml

All is not lost. If you use a router, you will be able to connect to Streamyx without 3rd party software, because the router will be able to make the PPPoE set up necessary.

http://help.expedient.net/broadband/mac89dsl.shtml

In the case where he has no problem on LAN at the office, the office router takes care of the PPPoe connection. So, buy a router, connect via ethernet to set up the router and you should be set to go.

Hope this helps smile.gif

Quick way out: follow Ivantheterrible's advise and buy an ADSL router. I use one with my G3. In fact, if you need to share connection between a few computers, you already have a reason to get a router.

the thing is, he bought the iMac G3 for RM75 only....Immaculate condition.......no scratchs will all CDs......

and he said he dont really wanna spend for a router that is even more expensive than the computer.....heheheheh........

really appreciate it if anyone here has a copy of MacPoET or EnterNet...

thanks!

Google for it

Versiontracker might carry all those softwares , just search , you could get it

I would suggest him to fork $$$ and upgrade the RAM to 256MB at least and then ask him to install MacOSX Panther , it would fly and at least he could run all the latest stuffs . OS9 seems to be little outdated. OSX is much more better when it comes to IMing and other st uff

his PC would run , Panther would run for sure. Get OSX 'Panther' , it would run fine. It would run on his iMac , so you dont have a problem there
