This is a rather sad tale, and one which I hope is not used as an example for others to follow. To be blunt, this is like the French soldier throwing down his rifle in the face of the Nazi onslaught, fleeing for his life and then as a POW, proudly proclaiming that he was triumphant because he survived. Far better to be like that unnamed Korean War veteran (a personal friend) who remained at his post in the face of an overwhelming Chinese assault. He eventually called for an artillery barrage on his own position and managed to save the day. Had he not stood his ground and fled or given up, an entire division would have been surrounded and annihilated. Such was the fortitude of men in the past. They are increasingly rare in today’s world. We do not know the whole story here, but to give up when the going got tough and loosing someone else’s pension fund or even a part of it is a tragedy and not something that should be celebrated. glad there are some sensible guys out there compared to mangina |
