For beginners, either Yamaha or Casio is fine. It all depends on your budget. For sub 1k models, both brands does not have much difference. I like Yamaha's tone more as it sounds more natural, but Casio is more bang for buck and more features for that price range.
My opinion might be from personal taste rather than hands on experience, as I am a drummer cum sound guy, not a keyboardist. However, I find Yamaha's sound to be more right in a band.
