Quick question for everyone. I'm trying to decide my way forward, currently in one of the bigger operators in Malaysia with about 10+ years background in IT, business in an oil and gas environment.

One option for me is to expand the IT role into development and production. Interesting stuff particularly the development side, and operations management and improvement aspect of things.

Second option is to go into economics and commercial, eventually going into planning and corporate strategy for EP. I did some commercial work back in my Shell days and I really enjoyed it and I can definitely do well here.

Career wise I'd prefer to go to the second option, but with a background in business and IT, I don't have enough of the geology/engineering/subsurface background to really stand out. The first option is already mine.
