Those in Baker Hughes or Schlumberger as field engineer, what is the work schedule like? And also the time away from home? Do you get fixed rotation from these companies? I will graduate in a year time, but would like to know about the situation before jumping into offshore jobs.

If one would like to have a fixed rotation example, 4 wks on and off, what should company should i take note of?

I am with Baker Hughes for past 8 years, as LWD Field Engineer/Logging Supervisor and Radiation Protection Supervisor - posted in Qatar, Germany, Brazil and now China.

Qatar and most Mid-East countries - rotation 6 weeks on with 4 weeks off.
Brazil - rotation 4 weeks on and 4 weeks off.
China - rotation 4 up to 6 weeks on with 4 weeks off.

If I work for Baker Hughes home country (Malaysia) - on call, anytime! No fixed and predictable schedule. Therefore, for a predictable rotating schedule and skipping income tax altogether, I opt to go rotating as international rotator and get paid in greenback!

Good to hear that you get a fixed rotation.

If you do not work for Baker Hughes Malaysia, then how do you get posted to BH in another country? Do you apply at Malaysia BH and then get posted out?

So the time off, you are provided with a ticket back to Malaysia or they provide a relocation benefits in the country you are offshoring in?

As a LWD, were you under the BH grad programme? Haha sorry if i have too many qns thumbup.gif
