Hey, WildChai - old timer in this thread!!!

Yeah, in LWD all these years, With Baker, it's been epic but fun, good rest-work balance, pay is rewarding and also good career progression laa. Been moving from country to country quite a bit.

Which product line you're in now and which company? LWD is quite fun I must say, as this segment have much potential with introduction of new technology and tools.

Thank you for the list. I've found this list as well, but it didn't make it in category , such as drilling, turbo machinery, HVAC and etc, perhaps because most of the companies involved in more than 1 field. Appreciate much if you can give me some information on the type of service companies. Just give me the type and I'll do research myself =)

btw, wanna ask how about onshore service? I like to be involved in different project, meet different people and challenges, but I am not sure if I can fit in the lifestyle of offshore, so perhaps onshore service might be a better alternative.
*
Well you might want to try searching for "oil drilling service company" or that kind of query in Google. I got quite some known companies from googling that term. hmm.gif

AFAIK, when you're in an oil service company, you just need to make do with whatever assignment you're given by your supervisor. You might have a say in where you will be located, but in the end it boils down to your supervisor's decision. These are all I get from conversation with my friends who are working in the oil service industry. Please do CMIIW. nod.gif

Haha, you'd be surprise too that there are those office-based peeps from low-to-mid tier level that got there because:
1) They f**ked up too spectacularly in the field, costing their company $$$ and thus moved out (to office) by boss to minimize damage!
2) Those who hush-hush hurry for any opening in the office (coz wifey says so)!

Not starting a flame war between office vs field guys - but just from my observation laa...
*
Now this I can relate and agree to. Met alot of "management" or office supervisors that don't know jack flapping their gums about field work. And they were really bad in the field... Too many f-ups. Lol. True story.

That JV called Al-Shaheen must not been doing too well then. Funny thing is Baker hasn't been getting the jobs there either. Must be SLB and Sperry then...

Hello everyone,

Just hoping to get some opinion here. Same here, graduated with a chem eng degree last year. Been working in a project management role for almost a year in the oil and gas industry. Am hoping for a more technical role in the future. Was gonna leave my comfort zone and do a full time master degree. Some say that this is a suicidal mission and that probably i wont make it back to the industry.

I received offers from Heriot-Watt, UTM & UTP albeit its research mode in UTP and taught for the former two. I am in a terrible dilemma. So should I do a research mode master degree or a taught one? Negative thoughts has been running all over my head since and that research masters are less recognized by employers. Is this true?

Fees is a factor here. Assuming that I do not want to continue phD after masters, which is the best choice for me given my current scenario. However, I also hear that some people say that companies employed people based on their accomplishment which is an indication of their capability and that their research title is secondary (even though its not related).

P/s: Research title is on EOR.

Help me pleaseeee. Desperately wanna hear an opinion or two.

In the South-East-Asia market, there are 2 very active PhD from Petronas Dr. Keng Seng Chan and Dr. Rahim Masoudi. You may want to find a way to see how you can go from your current situation.
