Hi,

I need some opinions frm the expert here.
I've been working in oil and gas as proposal engineer for almost 3 years now and
I'm going to further study in UK by September nextyear. I already recieved offer frm:
1. University of Leeds - MSc Engineering Management
2. University of Heriot-Watt - MSc Oil and Gas Technology

I'm confused between these two courses. Because I'm planning to work there for a few years before coming back to Malaysia. I don't know which course would give me a better job prospect in o&g field (consider if I work in UK for few years and coming back to Malaysia)

I need the feedback soonest possible as the dateline for acceptance of the offer would be by the end of this month.

Please help me. icon_question.gif icon_question.gif icon_question.gif icon_question.gif icon_question.gif

Thank you.

I got another offer from Brunel University in MSc Oil & Gas Engineering. The course contents are per below:
1. Petroleum Production Fundamentals
2. Multiphase Flow Fundamentals and Flow Assurance
3. Structural Material
4. Structural Integrity and Response Analysis
5. Dynamics of Petroleum Structures
6. Applied Engineering Mathematics
7. Reliability Engineering and Risk Management
8. Design and Construction

Dissertation

120 credit for taught course and 60 for dissertation.
I have to finish this programme by A YEAR (12 months) =_='

Please give sincere opinions, should I carry this programme or Engineering Management.

Thank you.

Hi there,

Heriot-Watt University is highly regarded and have very close relationship with the industry. However, if possible, try to choose other niche technical course, they have plenty to offer. Cheers!

How about Engineering Management course? Do you think it is not marketable in the industry?

Well, unless you can convince your potential employer on your technical skills, else you would need strong references to back you up

Herriot-Watts, their MSc degree is well regarded in Industry and is only a step down from the super-elites like CSM.

TTHE expanded too fast. The management were too confident of getting jobs. Having Tabung Haji name does not necessarily mean automatic projects for them. Bottom line is commercial proposal.

And there are too many fabricators of offshore platforms in Msia, 8 to be exact. The cake isn't big enough to be shared amongst the local fabricators. unfortunately fabrication of a few big platforms had to be bidded out to overseas bidders like Samsung, HHI, Mcdermott, etc., since the local fabricators except MMHE are incapable to fabricate those platforms.

But I guess the slowdown in O&G will weed out the O&G fabricator wannabes like Labuan Shipyard, Muhibbah, Boustead and Oceanmight.

I heard TTHE also bid with lower price, too low as long they can secure a new job.

A few PSCs have minimum bid price. They don't necessarily award the job to the lowest bidder. The job may get into problem if the contractor is not financially sound.
