They don't offer you as junior engineer? I hardly see degree holder work as technician..but anyway i think there is the chance to promote as engineer.
*
Nope, they didn't offer me position as junior engineer. I think they are in urgent need of people to fill the post of technician.

QUOTE(mouthpoop @ Oct 1 2014, 04:15 PM)
It is good that you are willing to take up the technical position. Most of the times, the HR of the company will consider moving you around ( change department/ promoted to engineer) after a year of employment. ( subject to discussion with your department manager.) Its Baker Hughes, you have a lot to learn and vast opportunity to grow from inside the company itself.

If you have another option of job offering you an engineering position with better prospect, then you should know which one to choose.

I see. Thanks a lot for your advice! I know what to do now.

Hi all, I was called by Baker Hughes Singapore for the interview of electromechanical technician position (non-field job). I am a fresh grad with a degree in mechanical engineering. My first choice is actually to become a field engineer. Since it is hard to get into O&G industry, I am thinking perhaps I can start with this position and learn the basics of the industry. But I have some doubts, hoping to find an answer here.

1. May I know what is the career path for this position? Does it has a good prospect?
2. If I perform well, do I get to be promoted as engineer? Or I would stuck as technician for my entire career in the company?

Thank you and really appreciate if all of you can clear my doubts.
*
It's a lab based position. stuck in the lab doing some maintenance on the tools. u may have a chance to advance higher, but that's gonna take some (at least few years) to go up. Unless u are extra-outstanding. good luck!

Anyone here know of specific jobs/companies in the oil and gas industry for a USA grad with a degree Geology/Environmental Sciences? I haven't actually graduated yet, just wondering what the prospects are in this sector.

My skill sets are leaning more towards stuff like surface geophysics, borehole drilling, environmental assessment, hydrogeology (water resources), etc.

Thanks!

Are you looking for a list of companies in that swec category? Petronas has the list, ask them for the latest spreadsheet. I've been told not to send the spreadsheet around biggrin.gif

Or are you trying to get into that category? Also ask Petronas, they have their requirements.

TLO specializes in offshore installations. I wonder why they need a process engineer in their company.
