if u are going to get a desk job, dont expect it to be higher than other industry just because u are in OnG

- No, he was a fresh graduate when he started in O&G fabrication sector.

- Salary was typical of fresh graduate scale at that time (this was more than 2 decades ago), working hours were long, occasionally high pressure.

I suggest you just work hard, smart and be patient if you want to work in O&G. Income will start to get 'exciting' after you've worked more than 8 - 10 years. Beyond that, the sky is the limit.

Don't dwell too much on the salary when you start working in O&G.

If you comparing OnG vs construction industry, yesss...the pay is higher in OnG. But subject to you have a few years working experience (minimum 5 years)
With a few years of experience in construction, when you join OnG, they will not treat you as newbie, but in the same time not as experienced guy too (hope U know what I mean).
They not count whatever unrelated experience you have b4 except in OnG in considering your pay. Construction experience is consider as unrelated.

But it's all depending on which company you working at.

Anyway, I suggest you to join O&G from beginning.

well tbh you do have a chance of working on the field either on or offshore, but from my exp i only met one guy who does that la

you'll mostly be working with engineers on the field if you are assigned to

and as for you wanting to earn big bucks, it all depends on how you handle your job as well as a bit of luck...whatever industry you are working in only comes seondary and there is no guarantees

just to add, you wont be surprised if you find companies offering you position as project/contract engineers...i rmb seeing similar post on jobstreet...do more of your own google searching if you are really interested

If you join O&G, forget about building construction.

No more building services.

No more interpolation method, elemental cost estimate, feasibility study

Good luck in which ever industry you choose to get into. You keep the same attitude you have now, you won't succeed in any industry you work in.

haiyo...attractive or not it's very subjective la...like you said got pros and cons, you think high pay comes without any extra risk is it?

focus on your studies first, graduate then you shall see and decide for yourself how you want to start your career
