Hi guys,
I'm going to be in KL for a month in July during my uni break and am looking for a gym that has
- squat racks/power racks (not smith machines)
- area to deadlift/deadlift platforms
- general free weights

I have looked through some other gym list threads but they don't clarify if they allow deadlifting. Any help/gym reviews are appreciated (:

yeah deadlift one of those compound exercise which needs proper form to execute especially with heavy lift, you cpuld try buying a barbell, and deadlift with zero weights to practice the form, straight back and all precautions, and watch youtube on achieving the perfect form and their many variations.
i only workout in my home and ppl always said that im a gym junkie, when all you need is a barbell and dumbells with weights can already achieve more, as at home i have more flexibility and dont waste time at maintaining straight face jaga macho and ogling girls. (plus you can puke after that heavy squats which i sometimes do.)

i was told getto gym allow ppl deadlift and squat..
i went to one public gym in kepong last year call something like "universal gym"...

have squat rack..
but u have to be careful when DL.. u must lower ur weight slowly to prevent dropping ur weight or the boss will come over and ask u to use a weight that u can handle..

after 6 months there.. i give up and setup my home gym..
now i have a diy squat rack to squat and 2 rubber tile for me to do DL

Do you know which part around Kepong is that gym at? I tried googling but I can't seem to find the address...

Yea, in my current gym theres 4 platforms here where people do olympic lifts all the time and slamming bars with hundreds of kg from over their head to the floor and nobody blinks an eye.

wait a min, i think i kinda misunderstand the deadlift part, if u say ppl mimicking the deadlift but never did throw the weight to the ground entirely, yes there's ppl who do it. If what u looking for is something like the olympic weight lifter where they throw the weight all the way down the platform, err don't think they will allow that in CF gym.

Most Fitness First gyms are equipped with both squat rack and smith machines.
I'm FF member and I stay in Kepong, work in PJ.
Usually I go The Curve, or Menara Axis PJ.
FF Mont' Kiara is good too. Not far from Hartamas I suppose.

I train at LeanBodies publika. It's a "fitness" gym. It has more machines than weights, only 2 oly bars, a yoga room, a smith machine, and is only one retail lot sized so even with 10 people it's gonna be cramped.

It sounds bad I know, but they're alright with deadlifts and the smith also has rack/pins on the outer side so you can use the free oly bar to do free squats. Also has safety pins.

It's far from a hardcore gym but it works if you know your way around with just benches, a barbell and weights. Weights are satisfactory, there's alot of (kg) 20's and 10's plates.

The BIGGEST plus is that is that it is 24hr and only RM98 per month with no contracts/registration fee etc. Pay for a month, train for a month, no hidden costs.

I take advantage of the 24hrs and train at about 6.30 or 7am. Most of the time it's less than 5 people, some times me alone.

hmm sounds like gorgeous fitness? The C.F gym in kepong is located at Kepong Village Mall,Manjalara area. However, they do not have squat racks and are lacking of few equip compared to other C.F gym due to its size. And the floor mat is pretty thin , so dropping the weights during deadlifts sounds like a bad idea. However, other branch of C.F such as those in One Utama, Mid Valley and Subang Parade allows it.

Thanks for all the responses guys! Appreciate it!
I might checkout LeanBodies when I'm back in KL. Since it's no contract and I'll only be in KL for a month.
I just really want the bare minimum ie olympic barbell and plates for the 3 main lifts and yet it's so hard to find gyms that have these haha.

I've been to FF in the curve before when I was having some rehab training with my knee. I remember they have a squat rack but I do not know if they allow deadlifts
