Erm.. No discouraging comments then how are you gonna get the true picture ._. ...
Anyways, i am former stpm science stream student. Graduated last year. Well, ermm.. Stpm is definitely harder than matrix lah, haha. But lemme share wit u my experience... Well my 1 and a half yrs in form 6 is definitely fun.. Would say is my best 1 and a half yr of my school life haha. But let me just tell you tat, during the first sem is harder cuz u havent adapt to the sustem, but dun worry if u feel stress in sem 1, cuz normally we'll catch up in sem2 then it'll be better frm then onwards...well it's pack tats tru, assignments then exam again.. But i wud say i didnt regret studying form6.. Not sire whether matrix syllabus is easier than form6 but it's easier in a way that it is easier to score.. Well if u choose form6, dun be scared, juz work hard n u ll be proud wit ir results.. Haha.. May i ask wat did u get for SPM? |

It is brutal. Solid basics is a must, and that doesn't guarantee that you'll cope well too. Perseverance and nerve of steel is a must. Good luck and all the best for ur stpm

If you don't have superior memorising skill, then don't think of taking it. You need at least a CGPA of 3.92 to get a decent course.BTW did you take bio?do they teach it from the basics?cuz I'm considering to take bio which I didn't take for spm Oh yeah, STPM is fun. Okay..if u wan my experience, I give u mine..
I loved physics back then in my Form 4&5..got good grades Secured a Science Stream spot in Form 6 school after I failed to obtain any scholarship.. Have been playing and enjoying with my bunch of new friends since lower six (back then we are not yet in semester study)..and started picking up only when the exam was in the corner..haha not really securing a great result.. so i ended up in business stream now and dislike physics studies as they are not as easy as what u learned for SPM moral of the story : u need to have constant effort if you want to take up this hook.. btw: if you think science stream student would be able to secure a place in gov uni easier than art stream student, then u might be WRONG!! |

Physics student is easy. There are a lot of engineering courses that you might not ever heard of for you to choose with, provided your result is not bad (at least 2.5). Worse case you could even grab art courses. This post has been edited by kingkingyyk: May 2 2014, 12:34 AM |

Going to form 6 is definitely tough but at the same time really really fun, as mentioned by other seniors here.
I finished form 6 last year, I'm in the Bio class fyi. Now I am trying to secure a place in the course I want, in a good university. My experience in form 6 is that it is really 1.5 years that I have grown and found my stride. I've found great friends, I had fun, I learnt to manage my time well, I studied like a crazed maniac at times, but I didn't forget to celebrate hard when exams were over. I had to be disciplined in order to do well, I had to make sacrifices. But the results were so totally worth it. It's different when you go back to school in a uniform when you are 18 or 19 years old. You had to grow up and be more mature. Take up more responsibilities. STPM being STPM with its notorious reputation, I can say that it is harder than matrix. Just look at the statistics. They say it is so tough, so hard. I knew it when I stepped into form 6, but it didn't stop anyone of us to trying our best to beat it. Take it as a challenge and rise to it. Make goals and strive to achieve it. To succeed in the science stream what you need is not superior memorizing skill, but interest in the subject. Ask yourself if you really like it. Ask yourself if you are willing to go the extra mile for it. |

I was in the same situation as you too, never took Biology in SPM but took Biology in Form 6. All I did was to ask my dad to appeal for me. The teacher in charge of Form 6 was convinced in the end and allowed me to take Biology. Nevertheless, I still got an A- for STPM term 1 Biology. As long as you have the interest and memorising skill, you should do fine in it. |

QUOTE(Shizukayyn24 @ May 1 2014, 10:25 PM) Anyone here a form 6 science stream student? Can you please share your experience to me i graduated from stpm in 2011, in science stream. yes, science stream in stpm is a LOT harder than science stream in matric. Congratulation because u got an offer to enter form 6 science stream, but if u decided to enter, be sure to discipline yourself in studies. I'm talking from my experience during my form 6 times. If u decided to go for stpm science stream, u ought to have quite skills in add math, physics OR bio, and chem. your modern math during form 5 is assumed as total basics and will not be revised too much in form 6. In fact add math is also basic knowledge because in science stream, u will be taking Math T or Technical Math. stpm is an open paper exam, and u can take max 5 (as far as i know) subjects. I recommend u to take non-science related subjects such as History, Economics, Business Studies or Arts. These subjects at least will help widen your degree course choices in UPU later. If your ambition is related to science, then enter stpm science stream, u gain a lot more knowledge. do well, and u might be taking degree in overseas |

Is STPM harder than matric?
Yeap. 100% true. I borrowed matric Chemistry textbook from my friend since I thought it could be used as reference for STPM. The good things about it was, there are some examples that are easier to understand than STPM reference book (I mostly used Oxford). BUT, some of the topics covered in STPM are not covered in matriculation. For example: STPM has Periodic Table and Group 1, 14, 17, 18 and Transition Elements. Matriculation only has Periodic Table. STPM has Solubility and Phase Equilibrium. Matriculation doesn't have. I only have the Semester 1 matriculation Chemistry textbook and Reading Materials for Semester 2. So, I think I'm correct about the topics cover by both STPM and matculation. Stay or change to other stream? I would say stay. Science stream has more choices compare to art stream when choosing courses for degree. |

Just make sure that you can memorise the facts.. Biology is a memorising subject after all. The STPM reference books would give you some basic explanation which should be sufficient for you to understand the new concepts(even if you do not have the basics). And I'm pretty sure they most likely wouldn't ask you SPM level questions, so don't worry too much about that. I just memorised the answers for the essay section, then tried to regurgitate it out during the exam. There's another guy in my class like me, but he only barely passed his first term biology.. I wonder was it because he was weak in his studies or what. Good luck and all the best to you! |
