I would like to report for a complaint for a scammer camera shop named MEGA SMART PHOTO GALLERY located at Low Yat Plaza.
I walked in to test a Nikon D5100 DSLR camera.
At first he offered me a Nikon D5100 with kit lens with RM1430 which is technically and reasonably pricier than a Nikon D3100.
Before we deal, the sales assistant George tried to offer me a package.
I am totally new to photography and I don't know well about the price of the accessories.
He offered me a D3100 with kit lens plus 1 "Sapphire (HD) NANO LENS"(a wide-angle/macro lenses) which he claimed costing over RM2000 in market.
The package costs RM1999 and we made it RM1950 finally.
The salesperson George even showed me that the lens will improve the image quality even compared to a D5100 which is higher end.(I suspect he used another lens on the D3100)
After I got home,I tested the lens and the effects weren't there and I feel being cheated.I did some research that the wide-angle/macro lenses in market actually costs less than RM200.
The next day I bought,I asked for return and exchange another item.
He refused to exchange and claimed that it's not refundable.
He then tried to offer me to change a zoom lens which is still lower than how much he charged me.
They then told me that the camera costs RM1698 which is much higher than the D5100 he offered me.
After a research,it's obviously that a D3100 kit will not cost more than RM1400 at any place,I requested to add some money for an upgrade to Nikon AF-S 50mm F1.8G lens. They then asked me to add RM300 extra to change another item.
That means I have to pay RM1950+RM300=RM2250 for a Nikon D3100 and a Nikon AF-S 50mm F1.8G which is unreasonable at all.
That's a big trap!
I hope that no more victims will experience this.
PLEASE DO NOT VISIT MEGA SMART PHOTO GALLERY!!!NEVER EVER!!!!

Why didn't you bring/consult with senior DSLR user or even ask in this sub-forum first before buying?

"Sapphire (HD) NANO LENS" scam.

This is not the first time. Another case happened exactly the same way. The seller even said it's made in Germany. Despicable seller.

http://www.cameraimaging.com.my/_item?item_id=110001

This shop even charges people RM2388 for the so-called Sapphire Nano Lens, which is actually only a cheapo wide-angle converter.

bro...it's fair market out there. Buy and sell market. Technically, the seller don't nothing wrong in the eyes of the law. He have the rights to sell you at 10x the normal price for any items. You just didn't do enough homework and bought it on impulse.

You can try complain to relevant consumer association but in the end of the day, take this as a lesson to do more research before buying. Never buy on impulse. Always survey the price and if possible go back home and do more comparison before buying.

Anyway, good luck with your complain and hope you get your money back.

i dont know about the sapphire lens but i know about the nikon 50mm lens. Nikon D5000 series & Nikon D3000 series does not have motor at the camera body for autofocus. So, for 50mm lens, the user must buy a much pricier Nikon AF-S 50mm F1.8G than the Nikon AF-S 50mm F1.8D. The Nikon AF-S 50mm F1.8G cost almost double the price of Nikon AF-S 50mm F1.8D (RM600+ instead of RM300+) because the Nikon AF-S 50mm F1.8G is equipped with internal motor for autofocus. So, if you said that Nikon D3100 is RM1400 plus the Nikon AF-S 50mm F1.8G RM600, this means the amount that you have to pay is only RM2k..

Correct me if i'm wrong

Yes,that's why when I say I want to return the lens, they ask me to add rm300 which is rm2250 which is not reasonable price for a d3100 kit and a 50mm af-s.He also said that I cannot find the price of around 2k in anywhere of the market.

Re Maga Smart store scam
We recently (aug. 10th) experienced a similiar scam in the same shop, where we were talked into bying a cheaper camera than we opted for because the salesman claimed that the addition of af Sapphire nano macre/wide angle lens costing 2000 MYR would be a much better solution and could prove it to us. He claimed that the lens was hi-end, made in germany, but a little search afterwards revealed that this product only exists in one KL homepage. Same thing happened with flash.
The salesperson has a trick to make pictures taken with the standard Nikkor lens look terrible without the sapphire and is very persuasive. We generally consider ourselves sceptical and try to do our research, but it was all very convincing and the end result was us getting ripped off for 1500 MYR.We also found out that the warranty was not valid.

However, the story ends well. The next day we contacted consumer service in Low Yat ( ask info desk G floor). There we met the manager Gary and his staff, who helped us in the most efficient, welcoming and professional way, and called the shop owner down to negotiate the problem. It ended op with us getting a full refund! biggrin.gif

I can highly recommend talking to costumer service, if you have a problem. This doesn't include having negotiated a poor price, but scams and are taken very, very serioyusly by the management.

It seems that this Mega Smart stop doesn't really exsist, but is probably a fake front for scams.

SO: do your homework before going and sleep on it if the salesman suggests something very different from what you planned - even if it seems convincing. These guys are really good at tricks and manipulation!

seller is at fault for scamming, but the buyer should do more homework and research about market price before walking into a shop

another reason why people got scammed is because the seller can see their buyer not confidence in their purchase or cant make up their mind what they want and giving the seller an impression of "i want a camera that take pictures but i think you can recommend me a specs since you deal with camera stuff" and thus get scammed

take it as an expensive lesson and do more research next time

and also nikon 50mm is not exactly a good lens, should have pair with 35mm because of its image quality and the price offered

many recommend 50mm because other camera maker product better 50mm compare to 35mm

Thank You for the heads up! Be careful when buying any cameras\lens or equipment. Always check with some one knowledgeable about photography or equipment. Other wise use Google to check for reviews before purchasing anything!
