QUOTE(SSJBen @ Sep 16 2014, 07:42 PM) ![]() I have been testing the Kingston HyperX Cloud for the past week (Qpad QH90) and I've been thoroughly impressed with how well the Cloud has performed over a vast selection of sources. The bass has less kick and immersiveness than the similarly priced Creative Aurvana Live and to me that can be a good or bad thing depending on the source. When a source requires bass (many SP or action movies), I do like the CAL more but at the same time, the more linear bass on the Cloud is definitely a better fit to when I'm playing FPS or any sort of games that requires good audio positional cues. Though I do want to note that bass frequency do change depending on what earpads are being used, the leather or velour earpads. More on this in a bit. Mids are recessed, but not overly so. The Cloud has a mild "V"-shaped signature to its overall sound and in comparison the CAL is more liquidy and upfront on the mids. The Cloud, fortunately doesn't get fatiguing to the ear with vocal heavy games or movies however. The missing details in the mids will put a setback on many genres of music generally. The treble has enough energy, though I would like a little more extension but thankfully they are consistent and well controlled without suddenly inducing a fluctuation of sibilance. While the Cloud may weigh in at 350g, which by many headset standards is slightly on the hefty side, the rather wide headband does well to equalise the weight distribution and it really doesn't actually feel like 350g. The leather earpads does a seriously good job with blocking out noise while the memory foam velour pads are a good option for those who simply can't stand leather or is against using animal product. Speaking of the pads, both pads do give a slight but noticeable change to audio quality of the Cloud. The leather earpads has more kick on the bass (logically correct) but also produce a slightly brighter treble, which does make the Cloud V-shaped sounding. The velour on the other hand is flatter on the bass and the soundstage do open up a little, causing a more U-shaped sound signature to the Cloud. So do experiement around and see which you like best. So audio quality wise, the Cloud is pretty darn good. Comfort? Damn good too. But really makes the Cloud a winner? The price. Seriously, RM300+ gives you a good headset with a decent mic, GENUINE leather pads (yes, real cow skin) and memory foam velour earpads. The fact that the Cloud can also be used with consoles as well with a few simple workarounds makes the Cloud the best RM300+ headset I can recommend today, bar none, period. |
