do we need 3g sim card in activating our 3g??
*
Celcom told me upgrading means a SIM change, and you CANNOT GO BACK.
So I decided to buy a separate prepaid 3G. For me, just trying out 3G with cheaper 2nd hand unit is fine, and 3 months FREE internet makes it well worth it. I sure would like to know what their prepaid rates will be like after the promotion ends.

Pro: good 3G promotion, 8pak bargains, over 3 hrs polite patient consultation on 1111 about 3G settings, automatically sent 3G settings after registration.

Con: 1/2 hr wait at HQ in queue with bill payment customers before nice technician called down within 2 minutes, unable to get 3G streaming video content for my phone model, LOTS of poor English in print and especially on automated balance messages difficult to distinguish between 13/30, 14/40, etc. Technicians could not/don't know how to re-send automatic settings after someone accidentally deleted them from my phone.

"Under our alliance with Vadafone, we now have the widest 3G and GPRS coverage in the world," Shazalli said at the Celcom Chinese New Year Spring Celebration Dinner Friday.

Currently, Celcom provides 3G Chinese content in the country such as Feng Shui Tips with Lillian Too, instant news via Nanyang Online and Wang Lee Hom's video clips and songs, he added.

Yeah, sure... whistling.gif
None of your 3G content can be played on my * V-O-D-A-F-O-N-E * ! mad.gif
I was even charged for clicking on content that didn't work! vmad.gif

Today is the last day of your trial period 3G Xpax and I haven't seen the "wonders" of streaming yet. wink.gif Get on the ball, shake a leg, get moving, Celcom... you've got 3G customers, take care of them! (E.g., extend the free internet until you can cope with streaming to all models.)

they spent a lot of $$ on advertisements....

Yep, like the latest "so many reasons" ad...

My reasons for gripes:

Weak signal in my KL major district

6 months after getting 3G, still cannot use all featured facilities cry.gif

No more TV, even for $$$ [free trial never worked vmad.gif ]

Boasting of link with Vodafone, but no complete 3G settings for my Vodafone doh.gif
[Frenz w same phone get Astro on Maxis] drool.gif

Ugly English mistakes in their SMS spam, ads, booklets rclxub.gif

Now even main 3G menu cannot load whistling.gif

73,000 3G users? even if only 7,300/730 -- can hold their loyalty? unsure.gif Spend more on maintenance, less on newspaper hype. mad.gif

over and out!

Hey, many of us are TRUE already PROVEN fans -- fell for the advertising hype, laid out CASH to buy services which turned out to be unsatisfactory. As a paid-up still paying fan, I'm waiting waiting waiting for reasons not to switch. cool.gif

Anyone know why all the huge newspaper ads about tie up with Vodafone? What benefits are we gonna see?

Didn't they say the same thing last year?

IFAIK, they tie up technology & service support together....seamless connection ....

Hmmmph.... believe it when I see it...... whistling.gif

Celcom said the same thing before, but they couldn't get my Vodafone unit working fully on 3G. None of their video content suitable for my Vodafone device. rclxub.gif

Maybe a few years from now HSDPA can fight it out with Wi-Max for the elite market, but I was hoping for improved popular consumer services -- basic 3G still sux bigtime.

FREE video calls (Celcom to Celcom) from 7pm - 7am
from 30 Aug - 30 Nov.

Why don't they SHOUT this in their full page colour ads and picture a few cheap 3G handsets instead of expensive celebrities, a waste of MY money! mad.gif

Wish even ONE of my friends could be motivated to get a 3G phone. I might regret that after seeing their faces shocking.gif in a video call.....

Now we already past the 15th as a dateline by MCMC, anyone here got barred due to that? my friend can't make and received any calls as he is too confident with the registration submitted through a dealer and some more never check the status after the registration.
*
Early morning the 16th my line barred. When I called 1111 they said not reg'd, but I had already done it in person at Wisma Celcom LAST YEAR and had proof on paper!

Next i SMSed about my other line, guess what, somebody else's name & IC, another race!!!

1111 CS said can't check, can't do anything, re-register . After that 1111 hung, cannot call again mad.gif

Went to Wisma Celcom Saturday afternoon. No queue, luckily. I showed them my receipts stamped and signed with the staff name who did the registration. They corrected everything in a couple of minutes and all is OK. No explanation why the problems though. hmm.gif

So, everybody, do follow up on your registration, expect some surprises.... whistling.gif

Arrrggghh. Celcom registration problems not over yet.

Suddenly, got barred line again... I just went to HQ in person last Saturday!
1111 has my name on line, but says will be restored in 24 hours (why not faster, if I've already been registered TWO TIMES, once LAST YEAR!?!?!!?) rclxub.gif

So this will be my THIRD time to register.... vmad.gif

PS: My other line which was also barred last week: Now computer says YES was registered in 2005. G'figger. doh.gif

Every network faces problems.

In this day and age of super hi-tech, no excuse for World Class Telco!!!

Possible causes, just look at the English mistakes in official messages. Human tidapathy.

Customers WANT to say proudly, "I am on Celcom and it's the best" but .........

Same as what you describe, only the name. However if you call the careline they can tell you IC no as what the registration form submitted to them. IMO ic nos. sometime is confidential to some ppl, lets say somebody know your name together with your ic nos. exploitation may taking place.

WARNING! Read my previous posts about experiences registering IN PERSON at Celcom HQ !!!

Stranger's name & i/c, different race entered for my phone. details sent by SMS, then said NOT REGISTERED! etc etc etc

I have been using 2 Celcom prepaids for some years. Service and features, some better some worse than Maxis. Yes, nice that I could call Help line a couple of times up to THREE HOURS free of charge!

Unfortunately yesterday suddenly one line no service.... number expired without any warning. They send out tons of SMS ads, reminders to top up to keep my 75 sen balance but NO WARNING SMS just before number cancelled. I had a top up card waiting but now cannot do anything. Help line said number cannot be revived. Compare with my prepaid number in Japan that is valid 365 days per top up.

Yes, maybe I didn't spend a lot during this period of 100 days, but sometimes I travel and blow a RM$100 card on roaming. I also use internet and 3G services, and I have several phones.

Come on, Celcom, will it destroy your business model to send out one reminder on the last day? For one SMS, you've lost another customer.

Sorry if previously answered, dunno how to search this topic:

Any way to keep Celcom prepaid number long-term and retain balance, like Maxis pay RM$$/yr ?

If so please give details or reference.

TQ for any help
