i'm paring it with tt smartfan only. using TAT to read the temp. trying to get a new heatsink actually cause using xp90 since dfi days. lol. kinda outdated.

I am using "old day" XP-120...taking too much foot space...blockin part of NB...cannot put good NB HSF on it.. sad.gif

The result also not so good...E6400@3.44GHz around 72C load from TAT...

not yet...want to re offer me? tongue.gif

Anyway, mine power chip is good till 900Mhz +- 10 Mhz (didnt really stress them). I tried change multiplier from X8 to X7 and FSB up to 450...surprisingly can boot and manage to complete super pi 1M test...but result only slightly better than DDR820. sad.gif
I run the above setting after reading this thread OC Secret. Maybe U guys should give it a try...smile.gif

QUOTE(Bliz @ Oct 28 2006, 01:51 PM)
Just did some tweaking, still can't go pass 410FSB, the ram limiting me for sure, can't take more than 0.2vdimm, tried adding VFSB VMch all the same, can't go pass 410 while maintaining stability. 430 can boot though, but not stable enough to load window
*
Maybe U can change multiplier to X6 and bump up yr FSB...see how far U can push yr ram...
BTW, did u burn in yr ram? If not, try use memtest86+ and let it run overnight....might help a little bit...

Need some help here guys biggrin.gif
i found tht my lousy cvs can reach 990MHz.. with 3x multiplier. (2.31GHz @330FSBx7).
But when i tried 440x2 multiplier (3.08MHz@ 440FSBx7) during OC cant reboot. Can any OC pros tell me why?
* +0.2 vDimm, vCore, vFSB, vMcH@ stock*
\Tried +0.5 vDimm and 1.45 vCore b4 but failed\

My OC bottleneck by ths RAM??

2nd question.. how much PCI-e should i lock during OC? (i never lock it b4 during OC)

THANKS smile.gif

Maybe U should try FSB440 and Vcore=1.5 or more...with X7 multiplier...coz I can boot with 445FSB with Corsair VS b4

By the way, do U cool down yr NB? I noticed after I replace the thermal paste with AS5, it become hotter. The original thermal paste on DS3 is sux to max. Dried out completely as shown on picture below:

Nice temp. Mine @40C on loaded @+0.2v vMCH. Before was 43-44C (with same fan)
How is yr setting? Fan on stock like mine?

become hotter after reapply? how come?  unsure.gif
*

Becoz better thermal contact btw NB core and HSF lead to more heat transfer to HSF.

By the way, I thinkin of buying PC Cooler NB-400CU (or NB-400AL better? rclxub.gif rclxub.gif ) to replace my current setup. Any opinion?

hi mikelanding,
can I know what are your temps for your e6400 @ 3.2GHz? Mobo/Idle/Load temps please using TAT or Core Temp?
*
Temp @TAT with Ultra-120:
Mobo=Open case..so not sure..maybe 2-3C above ambient temp
Idle= also dunno coz alway on dual folding which set to auto run
Load= 59-60C (using Orthos Small FFTs to prime) using Ultra-120. 69-71C using XP-120 rclxub.gif rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

Want to ask, normally which temp reading you all trust? CoreTemp (which suppose to read onchip thermal) or report by EasyTune 5? Reason is both reading is quite far apart. CoreTemp give me around 53 degrees while EasyTune5 around 41 degrees.

E6400 with DS3 running at 400FSB.
3.2Ghz effective (haven't try faster. First boot already work at 3.2Ghz which is my target... cool!) at 1.4v
Mushkin 2 x 2Gb RAM (value version) at 5-5-5-12 at 2.1v.
Prime stable for 1 hour.

I'm using AlphaCool watercooling and waiting for my MCW60 VGA water block and Northbridge HS-05 heatsink for next round of overclocking. Next target at 3.5 Ghz. I don't think my 7900GT can keep up with the CPU so this speed is good enough.
*

For most overclocker, we either use CoreTemp or TAT. I dun trust EasyTune5 at all.
I had same set up with U on Mobo and Proc. E6400 with DS3 @FSB400@1.4 Vcore.
Corsair VS 2X1GB @ 4-4-4-12 at 2.1V
My temp@TAT with Ultra-120:
Mobo=Open case..so not sure..maybe 2-3C above ambient temp
Idle= also dunno coz alway on dual folding which set to auto run
Load= 59-60C (using Orthos Small FFTs to prime)

Dunno U guys know about this or not. I found a nifty software to change FSB for Gigabyte P965-DS3 and Asus P5B Dlx without need to restart PC everytime.
It called SetFSB. Download link: Click Me!!
A simple guide on how to use SetFSB (in Chinese): SetFSB guide

Warning !!!
If you are a beginner, do not use this software.
This software is for power users only.
Use "SetFSB.EXE" at your own risk.

ET5 sux...this is much more simple, stable and didnt require to install. Lot of folks at extreme system using it.

Simple steps as below:
user posted image 1) Press "Get FSB" for current

user posted image 2) Adjust the slider or ">" to desired FSB. Then press "Set FSB"

South Bridge (ICH8) for DS3 is using a thermal tape (pad) kinda of thingy...is much much difficult to remove. I basically need to use a flat screw driver to pry it open... rclxub.gif rclxub.gif
Do it carefully, U will be find.
For Northbridge, after pop out the screw, just give it a little twist left and right...smile.gif

y so worried bout vdroop? as long ur system is stable thr's nthg to worry bout hw much u set ur vcore n how much vdroop  smile.gif
just my 2 cent  biggrin.gif

Vdroop is a big problem in overclock. The Vdroop is not just drop constantly..it kind of fluctuate. That mean it will cost instability...
There are some Vmod that prevent Vdroop on DS3 at VR-zone forum...But some said it will cost more harm than benefit...Read carefully if U want to do it...
