The RAM is not limiting as they're capable of 400MHz. What I am frustrated is that I can't hit 3ghz without more Vcore and I've not been able to get Bad Axe to enable the Vcore option yet.

AFAIK, the more phase the power is, the less heat it should be emited.

I am using Intel Stock HSF... 60C idle and 65C load 100% @ 2.88ghz.
So I guess your heat transfer is still better than mine. It's normal for LGA boards to have the portion below the CPU buldge downwards due to the pressure of the clipping mechanism. About AS5, I am not sure, since you would use it in very small amount; so it might be more susceptible to non-100% flat IHS. QUOTE(irenic @ Aug 14 2006, 02:22 AM) i guess the heat came from my intel stock hsf. i had difficulties installing it and my cpu was so hot. then with the help of austin, i managed to install it correctly. it nearly bend my mobo, and my fingers were in pain haha.. damn.. k8 socket is the best ever clip.. and rite now i'm using ninja (borrow from arj) and using coretemp my temp remain at 63c, and with speedfan, my temp remain at 52c during dual prime. and i guess my e6600 ihs is not flat.. there was no any as5 mark on the center of my intel stockhsf, means that the center of the ihs is deeper than at the edge of the ihs.. |

If it's a 3 pin thing, I think installing some jumper pins would be better since it could help you enable or disable the feature. I will capture some pix with the mod on the Bad Axe later... BTW, have you checked XS? Normally, I'd trust the posts there more than VR.

Put better active cooling on North Bridge and raise the NB Voltage.

Ahh, okay. On the 975XBX, it's a three pin in total for OC Debug; just that we need to short 2 of them only.

It surely needs more power due to additional L2 cache. That's why it's very advantageous for those who can adjust Vcore.
For example, the X6800 couldn't boot at 1.35V if I OC to 3.5ghz. However, when I bumped up the Vcore to 1.5V, I could reach almost 3.9ghz! |

I need better heatsinks and RAM to hit 4ghz. Too bad, right now, capped at 3.88 only.

Recently, really busy with Broadwater launch. A lot of work needs to be done; and that took me away from LYN. Apologize for that.
Anyway, the reason the X6800 is the best to OC is because of the upward multiplier. In the D975XBX, the max multiplier is an unrealistic 60X !! |

If you're not gonna overclock real hard, you could use the default Intel Heatsink. Conroes ain't that hot as Prescotts anymore.
QUOTE(Bliz @ Sep 15 2006, 08:26 PM) Hey guys i am thinking of getting a new CPU cooler for my E6300+DS3. Any suggestion? Don't want giant tower heatsink like Ninja or Ultra 120, my casing cannot fit |
