I think the term "pompadour" is more familiar amongst those in their early to early late 20s. Not many people knows the name of the hairstyle, sometimes they just walk in and tell the hairstylist what they want by describing how they want it to be cut. But isn't it more simple to say they want a pompadour :3? The idea is to have the sides cut short, while leaving front and back growing, because the longer your hair is, the easier it is for it to be combed.

Anyways, anyone spotting this hairstyle? I wanna get some advice please. I've tried tons of hair tutorials, guides, products, asked around yet none have been successful so far helping me achieve the hairstyle I want. Not really sure if its a problem inadequate blow drying skills, wrong hair styling product, wrong shampoo or simply because my hair is just difficult to style.

Would appreciate some advice from you guys. I'll post the picture showing the kind of pompadour I'd like to style.





Ideally, something like the first picture of the second row, or the one below. I like the kind with medium size puffs and to have the back of my hair still stands perfectly. Pretty saddening to say every time I achieve the shape I want, plus a bit of hair spraying, the entire hair falls flat in 5 minutes time. Even after I minimize the usage of my hairspray and wax, cause apparently using too much causes your hair to be heavy.

Would really like to know if any of you guys are super fashion savvy, particularly in the hairstyle dept. I've gone the point where I seriously would love to get someone to teach me some hands on styling tricks LOL. Even my hairstylist ran out of tricks to help me.

So please, any advice pleaseee. Really wanna have this hairstyle. And before someone else goes inb4 on the thread, pleaseeeee refrain from doing so. Seriously don't troll in this thread, I just wanna get some serious help. So for those of you who aren't kind enough to offer advice, please just walk out of the thread for every body's sake. Is Pomade a necessary product to achieve the look? It's not that I'm not willing to get a can of pomade, but having a greasy hair isn't exactly what I want. I'm also a bit curious as to whether hair wax can achieve the shape of pompadour. I don't necessarily want a shiny look, I'd style my hair in such a way that the hair is neat and it has the shape, don't wanna really have the problem of several strands of hair popping here and there.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how necessary is pomade?

1.Disagree, with effort, people can go with any hairstyle they want, as long as they're happy. Not saying I look good with the hair though, lol. Just figured I pointed it out.

2. Currently, I use hair wax and hairspray to style my hair. I do not mean pomade, pomades are an entirely different product that I mentioned.

That sounds great. Do you know where can I find water based pomades within KL? Just curious, how important is blow drying for pompadours? And when you said osis, were you talking about Schwarzkopf's Osis hairspray? I'm planning to use the Silhouette hair spray. And also very curious about this, but does using pomade enable you to style the back of your hair more easily? I notice a key point in my hair is that whenever I style my hair, the back of my hair tends to fall first, followed by the front, I am not sure if its because the roots of my back hair were not properly styled or the wax were not sufficient enough. Does pomade solve this problem? And do you use a comb for your hair styling procedure?

What's the outcome like mixing a water-based and petroleum-based pomade? Sorry I'm asking too much, I'm glad I found someone who can give serious advice lol. Not even the guides on the web help. Would definitely love to ask you for some hands on help in styling hair.

How did you perfect yours? Any tips to share? Not really sure what you mean by haircut but mine's pretty okay, or so I'd like to believe. Just shaved sides and growing out the top, yes?

Just curious cause you had one line that got me inquisitive. Isn't pompadour essentially the same as slick back, only that you create a pomp after slicking your hair all the way back? And I'm also pretty curious about how you mix both products. Do you combine them together or you apply one particular pomade for the back of the hair and the other for the front?

Kindly enlighten me as I am rather poor with hair grooming products, lol.

By the back of my hair, I mean the part where the front hair extends to the back, the back part doesn't usually hold as well as the front and I'm not sure if it's because I did not apply sufficient wax to the back part or simply because the wax never really got to the back. What it means is that when I apply my wax, I assume huge portion of the wax is applied only the front area because wax is so sticky, sometimes I get so frustrated and give up trying to comb through my hair with the wax on my hand. It gets tedious for me to coat every strand of hair with wax. Sometimes, I use a small amount of wax and apply to the front, then another amount for back and sides, it didn't help either. For some reason, the roots at the back of my hair still feels soft even after applying wax, I guess this suggests that I apply insufficient wax or that the way I styled my hair made it so that the wax didn't reach the roots of my hair. I hope I'm talking some sense here, lol. That's why I came to the forum asking for help.

In regards to Pomade, I have no specific brands. I'd just like a pomade with a consistency like wax, somewhat dry and not greasy and more importantly, holds well and ensures your hair is neat and not have strands of hair popping out here and there. The whole reason why I avoided pomade was because I knew there was grease involved and my scalp naturally releases it's own grease when I sweat so you can imagine how greasy it'll be when I combine petroleum based pomade. I'm just gonna assume suavecito's pomades are grease based? But would be happy if I could find water based pomades.

I'm not particularly concerned about shine as I've said, the shape and volume means more to me hahahaha. I actually had a friend who successfully styled his pomp without using anything but a hair dryer and hair spray. I'd show you his picture if I could but not in public lol, but omg that pomp made me envious. I tried asking him for advice but he definitely didn't seem interested in sharing details. Do you offer hands-on kind of tutorial for your friends who asked how did you style your hair? If it's not too much, I'd definitely like to ask you to teach me, maybe you can pinpoint my mistakes. That is, if you're comfortable, then I'll pm you.

Didn't help much, maybe because I'm not using the right stuffs. And yes, you were right on with how I was describing my hair. Another thing worth mentioning is my hair falls down rather then falling backward. I noticed most guys with pomp hairstyle have hair falling to the back when their hair is unstyled, mine just falls to the front like bangs .

Hahaha, loool. That's not nice. I'm not Malay, but I think Malays look good with any hair because they've got a very neutral face. They're not like us Chinese who tend to have small eyes and rounded jaw. I think if any race in Malaysia can look good with pompadour, I think it's the Indians and Malay.

60-70 is kinda reasonable for pomades I guess. Especially because Pomades are not as famous anymore according to most hair stylist. My Redken clay wax cost about RM 55, now I feel so cheated and conned. If I switch to pomades, I'd feel so bad that I splurged rm 50 on another clay dull cause my wax is finishing soon.

Where do you get your hairspray. Omg, the cheapest I got for a Schwarzkopf's Silhouette was RM50, buy 1 free 1. You need to tell me where you guys get your super cheap product lol.

I'm guessing it T.O.P or G.D, never liked G.D. True also, if you have the face, you'll look awesome in any hairdo. That's why Kpop celebs' got a large fanbase. My dentist even told me they apply a layer of dental porcelain over their teeth to make it appear ever so white.

Hey guys, a small little update. After our talk, I kinda fiddled around with ways to achieve a pompadour. Currently, I have success styling a pompadour if I coat my hair roots with some hair spray first, then applying wax from the back of my hair to the front, then combing it over. Spraying a little bit more hairspray more if I see some hair edging out here and there.

But I'm a bit disappointed that my pomp isn't as huge, or when I have a nice big pomp, it tends to fall flat after 5 minutes in to hairstyling. Longest I had was 1 -3 hours last week after using a new hair wax and hair spray.

Anyone can give tips on how to create bigger hair pomps? As well as how to make it last long? Also, is my method of styling hair healthy for my hair?

I know we talked about pomades, but it doesn't seem like I'm getting a can of pomade anytime soon. Help please

Is that a Lux? Ugh, I hate Lux more than Teemo lol. I'm currently using Redken Wax and Cab's Clay Dull. Hairsprays are Redken and Schwarzkopf. I'll post a picture later.

Hey bro, your dear shop is so hard to find LOLOLOLOL. I had to drive all the way up to SS15 without a single idea of the place. But managed to find the place in the end, sad that they never give discounts even though I bought quite a number of pomades ..

I've tried the pomade just now to style my hair, I mixed water/grease based pomade and I must say I really don't like grease based. It is so damn hard to wash out :'(. Now I regretted buying 2 cans of grease based. I bought that much cause the staff said grease pomades has more holding power. And because I don't travel down to Subang often, I rather buy more. Anyways..



Two cans of water based and grease based, plus a comb cause my fine teeth combs at home aren't doing the trick. Splurged rm 300 on it . I'm willing to sell off the second can of grease based if my first can doesn't go well. But like you said, pomade is really good for pompadours. It's holding very well and when you comb it, it comes together to give a very neat look.

. I just washed my hair and I can feel the grease on my hair still. I mixed both as suggested by most of you all. I bought two cans of grease pomades cause that guy was saying how I need grease pomades if I want it to last all day.

But now I regretted. I think I wanna sell off the grease pomades cause Grease ain't what I like. Any takers? RM 60 cause one can is new and the other can I just take a bit to use only. I just bought them on Thursday.

Omg. Whaaat. No wonder, I applied conditioner to wet hair -.- Nahh, not RM 60 for 2 cans. RM 60 for the new can, and I don't know RM 60 for the other can that I used once? I just wanna get rid of the product. If someone can offer me a price that was similar to the one when I bought my pomades, I'm okay with it. I think my scalp is super sensitive to the grease cause it's trying to adapt, making some areas of my scalp itchy -.-

Right now, I'm trying to experiment with bigger pomps. I want my pomps to be bigger and slightly a bit distributed, not too neat cause it made my hair look so awkward.

You want the grease pomades? I seriously wanna give it away. Should have bought 4 cans of water pomades instead.

Noooo, I want bigger pomps ... But I hate using Grease man. I just tried using water based with a bit of wax, it didn't help. I was disappointed.

Hmm.. let me explain how I recently achieved my pomps. When I fiddled around with ways to have a pomp, this is what I normally do..

After shower..

-Spray quite an amount of hairspray to roots to gain volume.
-Apply wax/pomade and style.
-Use comb to readjust hair to look neat.
-Pomp achieved.
-Spray more hairspray to increase hold

Maybe my hair is getting longer so it's harder to style, or maybe because its the fact that I applied some spray conditioner to my hair last night that it didn't quite work out.

The thing about using wax or pomps to style my hair is that when using wax to style my hair, the pomp is a more evenly distributed pomp to give it that very casual look, just think of a pomp that isn't too neatly combed, but the shape is still there.

For pomades however, it gets too neat for me to the point where I need to use my hands to kind mess it up a bit. Hard to explain, but I can show you some pictures to let you know what I mean.

Sadly with wax, my pomp falls after 5 minutes of standing, probably because the wax isn't strong enough to hold. But with pomade, I tried mixing water and grease yesterday, the results was very nice. It held very well for hours at the expense of an itchy scalp and very greasy that I don't like.
