QUOTE(Duke Red @ Apr 28 2014, 04:06 PM) Defensive play is an art. It isn't easy to be disciplined and maintain focus the whole 90. Rafa's Liverpool came away triumphant from the Nou Camp deploying the same tactics but somehow he didn't receive the same accolades as Mourinho does. The point I was zeroing in on was this one :- That is true. He has this specific game plan to use in certain matches where it's deemed necessary for him. He has used it on a few occasions and now perfected it. It's not a tactical masterclass for sure but it's a very efficient one. Defend deep, defend the middle of the box in a compact manner, soak up all the pressure, cut out the supply to Suarez, waste as much time as possible, and hit LFC on the counter or set-piece. He wanted a smash-and-grab. He got it.This is the point in contention. Which is harder? I don't think it's a biased piece since it's from a neutral source. I think it's merely an opinion and you can't dismiss an opinion that contravenes yours as being biased. In the end, Mourinho was triumphant but I have to agree with the author to say it was hardly a "tactical masterclass". It was an expected strategy that Mourinho has used over the years and it all began from when he said he would field a "weakened team". So, well done to him. |

I think it's best to put that result behind. No point saying whether JM's tactics were anti-football or not. It doesn't matter. The result doesn't change. It basically came down to one mistake that cost the team 3 points or 1 point at least. Had Stevie not mis-controlled and slipped, most likely it would have ended in a draw because TBH Chelsea defended well and they didn't offer much going forward other than Ba winning balls in the air on a few occasions and holding it up for his teammates to venture forward. JM set his team up to contain and frustrate Liverpool. Nothing else.

Arsenal's win yesterday has forced Everton to go for the win this weekend, if they still are after 4th spot of course. Having said that, it's a double-edged sword for us LFC fans. Everton going for the win might leave them exposed at the back, and we all know what City are capable of against exposed defences.

QUOTE(sinoffire @ Apr 29 2014, 03:31 PM) Nope. Why sell when he's one of the most important players at the club. Also, top 3 guaranteed already so there's CL football next season. Not desperate for money. Also, he just signed a new contract not long ago. Also, the fans love him |

QUOTE(Duke Red @ Apr 29 2014, 03:38 PM) The only time a football fan will accept negative football and time wasting tactics is when it's used by the club they support, simple as. We won stuff under Houllier but I wasn't a fan of his football. I agree. Majority of fans don't like ultra-defensive tactics until it's used by the clubs they support and they get the results they want. |

QUOTE(reehdus @ Apr 30 2014, 10:45 AM) You can't blame most of us for reacting badly to having our bubbles popped. Massive improvement yes, and that is something to be really proud of; but this year has been our best chance to nick it in a very long time. I'd rather take it now than to lose it and say, hey at least we improved. And it's gonna be really hard to pull it off. Part of me still believes, but the other part is quite disappointed. I share the same sentiment. It's because we're so close to the title and yet there's a possibility that we'd lose it on goal difference, which to me is the most bitter pill to swallow. Come end of the season, we can be proud of the season the team has had but I hope we won't feel the pain of losing it by the smallest of margins. |

QUOTE(wadefak @ Apr 30 2014, 12:13 PM) which brings my earlier concern in, can the team keep it up next season? with the current squad size and the competitions that we'll be participating in? that's 1 of the reason that i believe that Liverpool should bag it this season, for Stevie G. COME ON MERSEYSIDE BLUE! Of course, I'd want them to bag it this season as well because it's the perfect time to do it. No European football distractions, Stevie playing well at 34 yrs old now, Suarez and Sturridge on form throughout the season generally. But we'll see...BR has to make good signings this summer to add depth because of CL. If the right players come in, and the key players stay injury-free next season, I don't see why the team can't challenge for the PL again. At the very least, we should stay in the top 4 next season or else I'd be disappointed. |

AM were very good when they had the ball, especially in the second half when Chelsea chased for a goal for themselves. Opened Chelsea's defence up and found gaps time and again. I guess that's why they were parking the bus on Sunday
Looking forward to the Madrid derby in Lisbon. Simeone out-thought Mou in this one. Kudos to him |

QUOTE(prophetjul @ May 1 2014, 02:09 PM) Don't think AM is miles better than us. This is +1 comment. Chelsea approached the AM game very differently from when they came to Anfield. Its just Chelsea had to come out to play. That open up the space for the attcakers. Whereas at Anfield they had 10 players playing behind the 25yd line! Anyway, moving on now. Willing our neighbours on tomorrow to get a point at least |
