Still GMK is made from abs material.
Born as abs, shine as abs.
cheap abs keycaps and gmk do shine at the almost same rate.
Some people gmk shine in 1 week. Some 1 month or more than that.
*
Oh. Forgot GMK caps is ABS too. sweat.gif

Lol. It's like saying I'd rather not spend money on a RM500 amp for a RM1.5k headset. The amp is important to the sound. The keycaps here is important to the overall feel of the keyboard. If you're buying just for looks then up to you.
*
Agreed. I'm all for buying original - but in my case the amp would cost more than the headphones. wink.gif

QUOTE(slimfox @ May 16 2014, 07:02 PM)
I like the way you think. Ya sometimes have to know when to spend and on what. Like me when I was spending on rm1k+ branded jeans. End of the day my rm200+ jeans last as long as those expansive ones. Also serves the same function.

On KBD I guess its what you want out of it. For me, I game and don't really type much except on this forum therefor I got a Razer (Hope don't kena tembak for mentioning the "R" word  tongue.gif ), if looks is important then why not cheaper alternatives (got lots of guys walking around with fake watches in KL  tongue.gif ) but if you want the whole package (brand, feel, quality, etc) ya pay for it. Each for his own, I always say.

On Sentinal92's point I only have to say that when it comes to sound, don't be kedukut cause what you pay is what you hear (may not look great but the sound can give you orgasms).

The only thing I have to say is don't get fakes (not from the brand but labeled as such), get from a company/brand that makes compatible products. Supporting pirates will only stop innovation of newer better products.
*
Point noted. Would love a cheaper alternative with decent quality if any exists at all. Besides, I (in my humble opinion) don't think that the difference in quality between the replica keycaps and the original ones justifies the 5-6x times difference in price.

You need manually swap those keycaps to location of certain characters that always type by you.
For example, "a", "o", "e", "u", "i", "h", "t", "n", "s".
After long time of hard work, you may get whole keycaps shiny. brows.gif

For GMK (doubleshot abs), hard to find cheaper/replica replacement because GMK was using Cherry profile.
Even taihao has the color scheme of some GMK, but still taihao was using OEM profile.

For BSP (dyesub thick pbt), there is imsto which is cheaper alternative. imsto is cherry profile too.

Of course will look very nice if full sets uniformly shiny. laugh.gif

But, you know need really hardwork and dedicated motivation to make the keycaps reach such level.
Because, when typing, our fingers touch certain area of each keycaps. Normally we will touch on bottom area of keycaps rather than top.
So, bottom area shine faster. brows.gif

By the way, did anyone else's typing speed drop a little when they first picked up a mech keyboard? I used to be able to type 85-95 wpm. But now I can only type 70-80wpm. I guess mech keyboards need some time to get used to huh?

For keycaps I can't comment, not much new tech apart from material, workmanship and design from 20year old keyboards. For other products the cost to the original manufacture will be R&D, marketing (brand and product) and manufacturing process. The guys who make replica just make a similar looking product with similar functions with lower quality/same components and just basically sell. Hence the original manufacturer has to sell with high margins to cover the other cost and the replica guys just tag along.

But then the joy of using quality products (keycaps included) is very satisfying. The touch, the feel, the whole experience. So if you can afford it then get the best. Better pain one time and use for a long time than get cheap and always have to change. But as I mention earlier, know when to spend and when not to.

If you want to get keycaps use for long time and will not shine, then get a pbt 1. Not pain also and affordable.
Brand like keycool cheap in price yet good quality. thumbup.gif
Can last long, resist shiny.
So, not that expensive keycaps only can last long, cheap 1 also can.

Just avoid those backlit abs keycaps, those not last long yet expensive.

Not everyone can afford those GMK and BSP keycaps set. Just get those you able to afford, and happy with it.

My own personal theory about shine is, it helps if you wash your hands every hour when using your computer. My previous notebook also the keycaps shine like hell esp the wasd keys. Then huh I started this wash every hour routine with my new notebook. The keys still quite ok except a few keys. Oil from your fingers part of the problem.

That is why I'm having a headache for my ouroboros mouse. Unlike keyboard cannot change buttons.

If my only option for my keyboard will have to be the back lit abs keycaps which you advise against cry.gif . At least la have option, my mouse no option cry.gif cry.gif . If you say change also cry.gif cause both also cost the same cry.gif
