a colombian novelist and journalist. passed away on 17 april 2014 from pneumonia. his style of writing is known as magical realism. he received the Nobel Prize in Literature on 8 December 1982.
i read '100 years of solitude' last year. it was written in 1967. the magical realism is the fundamental style of writing in this novel. this novel tells the story of a few generations of a family, and i believe it was loosely based on the writer's own family. i was introduced to this book only after reading bill clinton's autobiography. it is one of bill clinton's favourite novels.
have you read it yet?

I have the book, have tried reading it, I cannot really appreciate his writings xc I get that its a story about this huge family, with the wars and scandals, but I cannot really grasp the whole story. Mind telling me what the writer is trying to convey?

QUOTE(arissa1992 @ Jul 29 2014, 03:58 AM) I have the book, have tried reading it, I cannot really appreciate his writings xc I get that its a story about this huge family, with the wars and scandals, but I cannot really grasp the whole story. Mind telling me what the writer is trying to convey? His works are, I would call, highly metaphorical science fiction, examining lives psychologically and chronologically. You need to read in between the lines, to understand the values and themes like even the briefest encounter has the power to transform us.
