Balik to retire lah smile.gif

My thinking .. say you start work at 20 until 55 (35 years)
Work in SG 35 years / 2.5 (exchange rate) =  14 years

Work in Singapore 14 year (20 + 14) = 34 balik retire and enjoy life biggrin.gif
*
This only applies if you earn SGD and spend MYR.
Your retirement age will greatly been shorten too if you earn SGD and retire at age 25 by spending Zimbawe Dollars in Zimbabwe.

Been working here for a year+.. Means a year I did not touch my car and go back frequently.. Honestly $$ drives me, some of my peers contemplating to return back get married, family all. But I dont care, not family orientated. Perhaps the only thing i miss is driving. Been taking bus to work all while haha.. How do you guys cope with this? Stay emotionally mentally strong, at least for 5-10 years
*
You can opt for a car with 4 years COE left. It's only about $25K.

ACCA/CPA sounds like so-so so singaporeans dont really see them like WHOAHHH she got a cpa membership or something... is it ://

instead they value more on working performance. correct me if im wrong lol
*
The worst part is ACCA charge their members an annual membership fee of £400+ = SGD800 for life!
For degree holders, there is no other hidden costs after you have graduated.

In the end, I got fedup with the ACCA membership fee which serve no purpose apart from maintaining your name in the ACCA's register + monthly lousy magazines and renounce my name with ACCA.

i have nothing to lose since I already got in hand the original copy of the ACCA cert.

Wow... My cousin is going to work here, in medical field (but not doctor/nurse, I also not so sure what position).

Seriously... In medical field, expat package is really common?

Fresh grad, monthly basic is already high enough. Then that's not all... Housing allowance, 600 each month. Then before start working, most expenses can be claimed too like hotel, flight ticket, relocation etc. Then working on shift got shift allowance lagi.

doh.gif Same fresh grad but salary more than 40% higher than mine. doh.gif doh.gif *I jelly*

Maybe I made wrong decision and went into the wrong field since the first day of my uni cry.gif

If you have courage, start a business in Singapore.

I resigned my job a year ago and now in full time business in Singapore, now already earning 4.5 times what I earn from my previous job salary.

Hi, I would like to know is there any alternate way to secure a financial-economics related job in SG? I was a fresh graduate from one of the local uni in Malaysia and I had send quite a number of resume and applications to the sg based companies via their career portal or job hunt sites like jobstreet, jobcentral. However all of it end up with unsuccessful application or not even give me a reply. Anyone can give me advice? Appreciate your help a lots~

Maybe you put your expected salary too high, resulting in nobody contacting you?

So far so good for me. Maybe I've got trained during the uni time to eat shitty food.
I see long queue then change restaurant/stall one tongue.gif

But there's some crazy queue I see in SG. One serious one is at 313@Sommerset (or Orchard central? They're like all in the same building so I can't differentiate). The yogurt at B2 or B3 named Llaolao or something. Last time I see, the queue turn one whole round around their outlet till the end of escalator, continue again at another end near emergency exit. Sot one really doh.gif I rather go there on a weekday to skip the queue.
biggrin.gif Prefer the price back home.

*Calculator mode ON:
2 vege 1 rice $3.5
$3.5 x 2.585 = RM9.0475
RM9.0475 = 0.9 x M'sia McD Big Mac Set

In short... You eat one mix rice in SG can get 0.9 x Big Mac Set in M'sia*

Jk biggrin.gif
*
What does 0.9 means?

QUOTE(NiMei @ Dec 4 2014, 10:57 AM)
hi guys, am in a dilemma

i am previously an external auditor (2 years exp), but currently an accountant (since aug) at a listed co. with E pass. Am enjoyed working at friendly environment here with friendly colleauges, but not feeling that i'm doing my best in this job and am thinking of moving back to audit line, i have some concerns here:

1. my friend did mention that e pass has better chance of applying PR, is it so?
should i continue my current job and change job after getting PR?

2. To my knowledge (maybe not so comprehensive) most of the msian auditor (i mean the external auditor) are holding S pass here? What are the effects/disadv if i'm to degrade my Pass for the job i prefer?

pls advise, thanks in advance
*
Ask yourself.

1) The salary for auditor or accountant is higher?
2) If auditor, u need to work in Big 4, but then again it is 100% more stressful then working as an accountant in my opinion. If you work in a half-past-six auditing firm, then forget about returning as those bosses pays peanuts.
3) S-Pass or E-Pass depends on your salary scale.

well, i'm ok with minor (perhaps not so minor if converted to RM) paycut if i get the job(and career) i prefer,
perhaps i should rephrase my question, given my current condition (previous post), what price i need to pay (especially those intangible such as: chances of pr application, e pass/s pass issue) aside from highly possible paycut, for me go back to the job i like.

off-topics: btw, i dont understand that i'm being remunerated 2k+ but i get an e pass instead, according to the MOM, e pass is for those salary >3.3k?
and, not sure whether this is true, according to my col, it's due to my co.'s repu/size?
*
I dont seems to quite understand your response to be frank.

Did you mean that you are prepared to sacrifice a paycut to return to auditing field from accountancy but afraid it will compromise your chances of obtaining a PR status?

Is your current accountancy job pays u >3.3K? What kind of establishment? MNC, GLC, Pte Ltd?
How much will be your salary if you rejoins as an auditor and in which kind of auditing firm?

Apart from salaries, what type of qualifications you have on-hand, working duration spent in SG (years?) and yes company's reputation plays a part too but not a major factor in considering your application.

If you do direct money exchange, then you can do it at the rate of 2.6

Only restriction is min exchange of $15k. But there is no other fees that you need to incur.

I meMaybank2Ukan some money back today at 2.59, with $15 fee.

Doesn't sound attractive to me since you need to pay $15 unless you exchange a large sum.
Why not do direct money exchange at rate 2.60 and do not need to pay a single cent of admin charge?

I spent 2 minutes at my desk this morning and $15 to kowtim the entire transaction, end to end from my SG bank account into my MY bank account.

$15 and +0.01 upside isn't remotely near worth it to go to my bank branch, queue up at the counter (or withdraw from ATM repeatedly over a few days, and then make a trip across the causeway, walk around ultra safe JB with pockets of SGD bank notes looking for a money changer, change money and then walk around some more with pockets of RM looking for a bank branch to deposit it. Then if something unfortunate like bank teller count wrongly, or money get stuck in cash deposit machine - will mean more trips across the causeway to resolve the issue.
*
aduh, why do u need to cross the causeway? Do everything in SG lah...

1. The few money changers around Orchard are only offering 2.57. Lower than Maybank2u.

2. Even if I change in SG, I need to bank in the money in Malaysia, no?
*
This is why I suggested Direct Money Exchange in the very first place. It is also quite hassle free.

1) You hand-over the cash to the money changer or you transfer the money from your OCBC to the money changer's OCBC for instance (with proper documentation of course and regulated by MAS)

2) Once the money is received in the money changer's OCBC, the money changer staff stationed in KL will bankin cash of the equivalent value agreed to your CIMB.

You get better rate, no admin fee needed.
