I had the same thinking a while back but I ended up converting. After weighing the pros and cons, I failed to see the value in having a Malaysia citizenship considering that I'm not Bumi. SG gov took care of me more than MY gov.

Nevertheless, I do admit that the hardest part to let go for me was the sentimental value of being a M'sian.

What is the pro and cons of getting citizenship compare to PR?

My wife is a local singkie girl. My kids are also singkies. So, i agree this is the main driving factor apart from education standpoint. Although this may not happen, I'm also concern if I'm a PR, a day will come when my PR doesn't get renewed and I'm stuck and not able to continue working here.. hahaha. This is just me being paranoid.

Speaking of embassy, I get better treatment from foreign customs since I'm from S'pore. I'm not subjected to random checks or special checks due to my affiliation to a Muslim country. Also, most countries don't require travel visa for S'porean.

Lastly, if you ever..ever want to work in Public sector, you need citizenship status, especially for the jobs listed in JobsBank.

MyKad has to be returned before you get the Borang K. Usually for Police, i suppose all you need is to speak fluent Malay and you're good to go. Most Singkies can't speak Malay..  biggrin.gif

Normally they will do one SG citizen one foreign citizen to rip both countries' benefit. Kids follow the local side parent to get education and healthcare benefits.

Only some department in public sector need citizenship to apply like police, armed force, no? Most stat boards no need one. Some department they would screen citizen also if the information involve are classified. I only encounter screening in some projects with sensitive informations, but ya, can't get some of them because no clearance from government.

Hi,
My hdb 2 yrs contract end next year but i will be staying in for like few more months with my wife.  What is my option? Are there hdb for rental like 3 months etc?  As far as i know all comes with 1/2 years contract.

going to quit working in Sg soon so no point extend contract.
*
1) Inform your landlord and verbal agreement. 2 years you should know each other well enough that he or she can be trusted or not.

2) Engage the 2 agents in this page and feed them with 1/2 month commission ask them do magic for you under the loopholes.

1. Earn to the max of taxable income only.
Or:
2. Voluntary contribution to CPF. Buy insurance if non PR.
3. Spend excess income all on tax exempted items like courses and seminars.
4. Donate leftover excess income to approved charity organisations.

Has there been a change in malaysian immigration policy on bringing in duty free alcohol which was bought at changi over to malaysia?

Recently a friend of mine was stopped since he had on himself a singelt bottle of hennesey which he bought when he came back from overseas and was planning to give it as a gift.

The immigration officer said something like if your a malaysian working in singapore but stay in JB, you cant bring in alcohol and that the "no duty" on the first bottle only applies to foreigners bullshit.

Btw he didnt declare the item, he just put it in his bag and went through the x-ray scanner.
*
Nope no change. I always put alcohol bought in Changi in my carry on, no need to declare. Did it last week.

Don't understand your case actually. Friend land at Changi bought duty free there and cross Woodlands to JB, I think no duty free. If land at airports in Malaysia, anywhere from overseas also can duty free.

But duty free is for personal consumption only, so if as gift like your friend planned, also wrong already.

Here, this:

QUOTE(crapp0 @ Aug 20 2014, 12:10 PM)
About a month ago, he went to thailand for some work, after 3 days there he came to singapore and bought a bottle of brandy for his friend (But he told the immigration officer that it was for his own consumption). 2 weeks after the trip to thailand, he went back to his hometown where he was stopped by the jb immigration officer who told him this bullshit about having to pay duty when he never experienced this before.
*
There is no flight from SG to JB AFAIK. So he must be crossing the causeway by land, or he use personal jet drool.gif . There is no duty free allowance using land crossing IIRC. Your own case is by flight or land transport?

I mean after coming back from thailand from flight, he took a bus back to his hometown.

I too used to go back to my hometown on a bus which went through the tuas 2nd link and i never encountered the crap which my friend recently went through.

But then again i have not been based in singapore for quite sometime so i thought maybe the JB customs have changed their policy since my return flight will be in singapore, and i intend to buy a bottle of scotch to bring back to my hometown.

I guess i will just show the customs officer that i was away in another country for quite sometime as proof that im just transiting singapore to malaysia.

Good luck and do feedback on your attempt.

What's the best sim to go for now to maintain minimal usage Malaysia number? My Hotlink SIM card died liao, number kena recycled. I previously used to buy 1 year validity to keep the number alive but recently "upgraded" to the #hotlink plan which apparently isn't eligible to buy validity doh.gif

Just asking, I am a fresh grad mechanical engineer looking for job in SG. I  started to apply since late July and there were few replies. After August (aka new policy out) , I have yet receive any replies. I wonder if the policy really affect that much, or is just my personal problem?

Btw, I am a 2nd upper holder from MMU, with good records in cocu

There are hundreds of new released NUS/NTU ME grads running around, plus thousands of overseas ME grads applying. Keep trying.

haha, taking engineering as example, I do realized that engineering is not so great in S'pore compare to in Msia.
For example I went interview today which offered me for 2.3k without OT (degree holder)
It is damn low consider the work load (sometime work 12 hours/midnight)
But again if you save well the SGD convert to MYR still looks nice.

I am currently considering if I should take low pay job in SG and get PR asap, or should I work in Msia for 2 years first so easier to get employed and better pay?

What position they offer? Construction?

They can pay us with lower salary compare to S'porean and yet getting similar output.

Job scope? Doing engineer's work or technician work? That pay is fresh engineer's pay maybe 7-8 years ago.

You answered your question. Why need to pay more if there are people willing to take the same job with lower salary.

hmm..that's 1 problem I realized as an engineer. Most of the time we don't have special skills, only experiences can talks.
It is very hard to be unique in engineering field.
Hmm..I do see that pay cut is unavoidable ,but will it be better if I take a lower salary in SG and work from there?
*
It work both ways, I am offered lower salary say 2 SGD to 1 RM seeking a job at home. BEM say engineers' experience in Malaysia only recognised after registering as graduate engineer.

Yea I aware, but that's only for PE registration right? for job application people don't really care about that.
*
Nope, I am the other way round. Worked here after graduation. Want to go back Malaysia. Nope still stuck in SG.
