Hi all,

I am a new, expecting mom and am now searching for a good obgyn. Someone close to me suggested that I should go Prince Court. Apparently Dr Tan Ay Eng is good, but I would like to gather more opinions before booking a gynae. icon_question.gif

Any one has any inputs about Dr Tan AE, or any other obgyn in Prince Court?

I also welcome suggestions from other medical centres. icon_rolleyes.gif

If you can share the consultation charges, that will definitely be helpful too!

Dr.Paul Tay from Prince Court is much recommended. I'm under him right now. He would patiently answer all your queries, tells you what nutrients to take and well, even suggest to buy it at outside pharmacy to save cost.

thinking to switch to PCMC and 'shopping' around for hospital too. is the waiting time long for Dr. Paul Tay for normal visits?

I'm second pregnancy and have been using Dr. Paul Tay since first pregnancy. My sis in law both kids also under him and my friend used him too.

His charges is reasonable and cheaper than other hospital. He don't usually take walk-in customer. I normally fix an appointment with him..

I did a walk -in initially. His nurse was understanding and courteous. I shopped around for hospitals and decided PCMC.

Waiting time is about max 30 mins for me. A lot of nurses likes him as well. As for the hospital, I was admitted recently there for dehydration, the care and concern from the nurses overwhelmed me. I have stayed in PMC but that experience was nothing compared to PCMC.

TQ @wantedgal and @jiaenn83 for the review. Dr Paul sounds very convincing but I am still deciding on either Dr Paul or Dr Tan.

If anyone else have any feedback, kindly share, thanks!

No experience with Dr. Tan, but let me relay a personal experience of my colleague's.
Dr. Paul Tay from PCMC comes highly recommended by many mothers on many forums, so he's obviously very good, no arguments there.
In fact, most of the feedback about him is positive and many mothers swear that they will go back to see him for their next pregnancy.
However, my colleague's wife had a very bad experience with him (not medically, but rather, personally, i.e. the doctor was rude and apparently the experience was so bad that my colleague's wife lodged a formal complaint with the Head of Ob-Gyn Department and also PCMC's Human Resource Department).
My colleague didn't go into the nitty gritty details, though, so I can't tell you what exactly happened.
Maybe the doctor just had a bad day, or something about their conversation somehow just went the wrong way or something.
My point is, is that there are hundreds of ob-gyn doctors in Malaysia, and I am sure most of them are perfectly great doctors, but sometimes it really also depends whether you can "click" with your doctor or not.

I suggest to go see whoever has been recommended to you, and get a feel first.
If you do not feel comfortable with the doctor, feel free to go to another one.
Having a baby is a great and happy experience, so you should go with a doctor whom you are most comfortable with.
Do not feel pressured to stick to one doctor just because you had already started your checkups with him/her.

Having said that, my wife is currently visiting Dr. Aziz Yahya at Prince Court.
Our first experience with him is that he is very friendly and fatherly, and yet very professional.
Not sure about the other doctors there, but our first consultation (ultrasound, photos, calcium, vitamins, etc.) came up to RM450.
Nurses told me that the subsequent visits would be around RM120 each.

Congratulations on your pregnancy, and hope you get a great doctor to support you!

Yes I agree with you on this. I went to UMSC Dr BK Lim for my first checkup but din quite like his service. He has a lot of patients and I happened to be his last patient on that day. So he was very brief with me, less than 15mins consultation plus ultrasound and i paid RM280 for nothing. Not even the ultrasound images! (partly my fault because I forgot to request). That is why Im now looking for another gynae to help me through my pregnancy.

Yeah well, we have to understand that doctors are just human, after all.
They can get tired and irritated and sometimes can even "zone-out" and that may sometimes cause them to be misunderstood as being cold and impersonal.
Or he might even be having some family issues or child is sick at home or something, and he needed to go home quickly, or some other reason.
I'm pretty sure that most doctors are great people generally.

Anyway, just sharing some thoughts, while you are out shopping for doctors, don't forget also to consider the hospital facilities, make sure you are comfortable with them.
Doesn't have to be 5-star of course (although Prince Court is pretty damned near 5-star!) but should be clean and cosy, in my opinion.
If you do go ahead with Prince Court, remember to request the doctor for permission to see the delivery room and the wards. (ask nicely, they will allow it and will even get a nurse to accompany you and explain).

Thank you for the tips! I may or may not deliver in private hospital, but yeah, I can consider on that. Right now, my only concern is to find a private gynae for thorough checkup on top of my scheduled visits to KKIA.

Hi, so did you finally decide to deliver at Prince Court?
My wife is expecting around end-October, so right now I'm rather anxious on the hospital charges.

My wife visited 2 doctors at PCMC. First time was Iswaran KK (walked in and he was the doctor available) and second time was Tan AE (by appointment)

Roughly
KK - RM550 - no waiting time
AE - RM450 - waited for more than 1 hour

Consultation fee was RM280 for both doctors and the other items were listed as hospital charges (usage of machine, nurse services and etc) but i believe they were decided by the doctor.

Both of them seem professional, but decided to stick with AE from simply reasons - good feedback and lady chinese doctor (personal preference).

Also during the 1.5 hours waiting time, there were not many patients for KK and overheard that a few patients did not turn up for their appointments with KK while the nurse was following up with them over the phone.
