Hi everyone,

Currently we facing with the network issue at my office. My office has 2 floors (First floor and 2nd floor). Both floors able to access internet but currently all computers in the 2nd floor unable to ping each other in the same floor
(they can ping to all computer at first floor). Computer at first floor unable to ping any computer at floor 2. This issue never happen before and all computers are working perfectly until this morning. Now they unable to print to any sharing printer due to this issue.

-We already disable the Firewalls and allow incoming echo request.
-We already ipconfig/flushdns , ipconfig/release, ipconfig/renew and netsh winsock reset.
-All computers are connected to one main network switch.
-We using dynamic IP for all computers and confirm that they within the same subnet mask.
-We are within the same domain (labgistics.com).
-All PC are using Windows XP.
-We are able to ping Gateway IP address from all computer at 2nd floor.
-We unable to find any computers listed at Microsoft Windows Network at any computers in the 2nd floor.
See spoiler picture below. The computer in the list (UM-D06) is it own computer.

Network switch is in the server rooms and no one have the key to enter that room. The users didn't encounter this issue until 5.30pm yesterday. Only today when they come back at 8.30, then they notice the issue.

Thats the problem. Dont have access to server room. So call daughter-of-bigboss take away the key to server room due to recent complaint. Pftt.

At the moment Im looking any other method than restarting the switch

Go to ELCB and switch off the current. flex.gif

Anyway is it possible someone have installed another small switch to share out again? Maybe a 5 port one to connect 2 or more PC and then somehow some fella plugged in back the cable wrongly?

Thanks everyone that helping me give out their suggestion. Really appreciate it. After gain access to server room, restarting the network switch doesn't fix the issue. The main culprit is because latest Symantec Client Endpoint update that apply to the main server. Uninstall the update and everything back to normal. We already send an email to our main MIS department regarding this issue. It a little bit weird since only 2nd floor affected this issue. The 1st floor also should face the problem. We leave it to MIS dept to figure it out. Thanks again biggrin.gif

Good to know that you've narrowed it down to Symantec. you might wanna look into the firewall section of Symantec, see if the LAN portion is set to a "public network". If it is, it'll clamp down all network sharing, ping etc. But it'll allow you to access your gateway, which sounds like the symptom you described.

But you're right, its weird how only 2nd floor is affected.
