In case you guys haven't read it, Freesync is now call Adaptive-Sync (not to be confused with Nvidia Adaptive-Vsync). But there is still Project Freesync.

Some interesting part of Q&A section with Bright Side Of News.
You can read the rest of the article here.

Freesync is not going to be call Adaptive-sync.

Freesync require Adapative-Sync to work. If you read the Q&A, you'll know.

Freesync will not work if VESA did not push the adaptive-sync standard into DP 1.2a specification. AMD approach VESA to add the eDP variable refresh rate features into DP1.2a. Thus, the name Adaptive-Sync.

Anyway, i am so excited with this news. It takes only few months for VESA to approved AMD proposals. Probably the underlying tech is already existed inside eDP. Now, they need to push display manufacturer to add 1.2a into their monitor.

This actually answer my question:
http://www.marketwatch.com/story/industrys...sync-2014-09-18

So, basically freesync isn't just about dp 1.2a out of the box. It require new scaler/asic just like nvidia g-sync module. I've always sceptical about DP 1.2a doesnt require changing of current scaler, and AMD always been tight lip about this. Nvidia was right, that 1.2a dp is not the same as g-sync, because this implementation on LCD requires new hardware.

So now, it is reveal that it does require manufacturer to change the scaler which is since the beginning of lcd existent this wasn't even touch. This will change the whole industry. And nvidia is in trouble if these OEM scaler cost much cheaper than nvidia g-sync, and of course it is VESA.

Nvidia to support fresync.
http://wccftech.com/nvidia-promises-support-freesync/

They should, because it just reveal that the it is require freesync to change scaler, and it is basically what nvidia did. They have no reason to keep g-sync asic in lcd, since most scaler will upgrade theirs. Nvidia thought that freesync does not require change of scaler, which AMD initially promises. It turns out, it does.

i am just Happy found out is going to be manufacture in 20nm process biggrin.gif  yup with enough lamb/goat sacrificial sacrifice(to Graphic Godz)  this Friday surely this R9 3XX will be 40-50% faster and TDP from the previous R9 290 Flagship

And HBM Hynix seem to be promising... it's competitor(Nvidia) only going to be able to use this tech 2016 on Pascal Gpu...  hm hope this is a good investment by AMD smile.gif

Highly doubt on the 20nm lithography. We may not see any 20nm litho for 2015 from either both nvidia or amd.

well easy explanation is  R9 390/390X | 380/380X coming Feb/March 2015 with HBM AMD will be first to implemented it meanwhile Nvidia a year after.

Not doubting on the HBM, but the litho. AMD will have the exclusives early access on HBM since they co-develop the tech.

No info on the refresh rate? I guess it'll be 60hz with VRR step down.

It's january. AMD freesync monitor still nowhere to be seen. They promise retail in december, but until january even the sample still not out yet.
