raydenex Hey bro, wondering this washer will work on the DIY rattle fix you shared?

Though mine is not that thick.
This should work like a charm

Where did you buy your Sapphire Tri-X R9 290 from?
I don't think I've seen the non-OC SKU sold in Malaysia.. but that's just me. All the SKUs I've seen are the Sapphire Tri-X R9 290 OC ones. Can screenshot your gpu-z? |

I believe its pretty much the exact same card, only the OC one is factory-OC'ed to those clocks. You can even possibly flash your non-OC Tri-X card with the OC Tri-X bios and get those clocks as stock-clock. I let the experts here confirm.

QUOTE(coolkwc @ May 14 2014, 03:30 PM) Try not to compare with online price/price in KL...honestly in JB i have no other choice, Jayacom is the only shop in Lowyat which has outlet in JB. Before i bought yesterday, i go ask another shop, Tri-X sell 1750, almost 150 expensive than Jayacom. You're paying quite a premium on stuff.. you could buy from some of the sellers on forums and they can postage to you? At least still MUCH cheaper than your JB premium prices. If worried home minister see the item when arrive, you can always postage to your office, or friend's house Of course by my own money la...just that i built my rig 2 months ago for almost 4k on it, regret not to purchase the card together at that time... |

If its a matter of 10s in difference I wouldn't bother myself. But if 3-digit difference do you like being scalped in the name of convenience for RMA? To each his own I suppose.
Anyway back to topic; 1. check your receipt later 2. if lazy to go back to the shop, flashing the bios with tri-x oc is very much viable. tri-x oc cards I believe are not binned/cherry-picked at all. |

The fan rattle in Sapphire cards also found in their Dual-X models. I had the same issue with my 7870xt. It's not batch related. If they wanted to they could have fixed this a long time ago, not allow it to creep into the Tri-X cards.

Coil whine on GPU usually when the FPS is too high, and very often occur at loading screens (3-digit FPS highs). May continue a few seconds post-loading screen as well.

QUOTE(Yagami5159 @ Jul 1 2014, 12:43 AM) Hey guys, I have a serious problem on installing the 14.4/14.6 drivers. Experienced this before.. Is your CPU overclocked? Enter BIOS, change all settings to stock/default/remove your OC settings. Then boot into Windows again. Try and see. Here's what I done so far: 1. Use DDU to clear previous version of driver. 2. Install the new version after restart. 3. Re-boot So now here's the problem, after reboot.. black screen shows up while entering the login screen.. full black, NADA! then it went to idle mode. I've done a system restore and try again.. same outcome till the 4th time.. it gets worse! After the 4th time, instead of finishing the installation and restart, it now giving me black screen (Idle mode) AFTER it install the AMD driver (it flashed once or twice then boom! Black).. after that no matter how many times I've tried, the installation will not be complete.. it'll give me black screen after installing the AMD driver. *Phew* Any ideas? Is my card faulty now? :'( Acid_RuleZzshepardllkSentinel92 Need your help gais~ |

I recently got a second 290 Tri-X OC card, it's rattle free.
On an unrelated note; The only odd thing I noticed though is the BIOS is an older one, older than the BIOS I have in my first card purchased in February '14 This post has been edited by raydenex: Jul 7 2014, 01:27 PM |

QUOTE(llk @ Jul 23 2014, 08:16 PM) Rattling issue is secondary because i will replace it with waterblock, the main issue was occasional black screen when gaming I'm running 2 units of 290 Tri-X now. No such issues.I only got the rattle on my first card.. solved with a cable tie between the card and the back of the casing. No vibration, no rattle. Too lazy to spend a few minutes doing the DIY rubber method under the fan screws. |

You should RMA your card due to the black screening then.

QUOTE(Skidd Chung @ Aug 3 2014, 05:24 PM) Need some help with my board. 1. I would still update the BIOS to the most recent one available.Just recently bought a Gigabyte 280x 2nd hand and tried to install it to my motherboard but it does not boot up. No beep, no POST, just fans running and nothing happening. Tried to flick the SW1 switch on the GPU board and still no luck. Motherboard bios last update was a 2011 bios. Board is a Intel DH61WW. Not sure if I want to go through updating to the latest. From the release note, there was no mention if later versions had any fix for such problem. Just wanted to ask around if anyone got any idea or tips on how to make it work. Is there a history of problems for this card with older motherboards? Seller confirmed last GPU usage was 3 weeks ago before pulling it out for sale. Card itself is new, bought this year in January. 2. I'd try to pluck that 280x into another PC and see if its working in the first place. |

QUOTE(capoi @ Sep 13 2014, 03:15 PM) ..If radeon HD 4850 can serve me since 2009 and it cost me Rm400+ if not mistake, of course I'm expecting the same ftom this R7 265. Understand where you're coming from with this statement, but times have changed. A GPU of HD4850 performance that may have cost RM 400++ back in 2009, similarly bracket/class GPU today go for more. More realistic expectation imho maybe for 1080p, is an R9 290 that should have you covered for the next 3 to 3++ years. I could be wrong as I'm merely speculating too. |

As a 290 user, and subsequently rockin' 290 xfire before switching to a single 980, my unbiased opinion; a 290/290x is by no means an obsolete series. Personally my only reason for going back to green was the amazing efficiency of Maxwell, not performance, which is where the 970/980 shine.
