i read this topic just after i paid for the powercolor r9 290 pcs+

hope mine wont have any issue

what should i do after i get it? how to test the card? just play games or is there any particular stress test method

received my powercolor pcs+ r9 290, this card is freaking huge, so thick as well, had to removed my pci wifi card to install it, i think 3 slotted card?

so far no problem yet, will do the testing later

hmm may i know does all r9 290 support amd trueaudio? i dont understand much about this amd trueaudio thingy


update :

1.first driver error occured when playing dota 2, i want to tab out that moment, screen freeze a while, and driver error occured, going back to dota 2 there is 60fps fps drop restart solve the problem, not bad for 1st day trial!

2. unigine benchmark on all setting maxed out 1080p, 1236, no error here, was running the whole scene for almost 30minutes

another black screen while playing dota 2, need restart to return to normal...zzz

what should i do now? change to old driver? currently using 14.6 beta

update :

1.after 3rd time crashing, i uninstall, and install the 14.4 driver, still testing, weird though it all happens in dota 2

2. the same thing happened! but instead now memory clock is not stuck as before at 150mhz, but the gpu is running on full load all the time, restarting solve the problem

3. this time around i downloaded the 14.3 driver from powercolor website, still testing with this driver, one thing i notice after installing driver from powercolor, the fans rpm started to show up in open hardware monitor, its been none in the other 2 driver ive tested before(14.6beta and 14.4 both from amd website)

4. still crashing! but this time around, if crash, end the game task, re-enter the game, same perfomance as normal! no fps drop, no lockdown should i send back for checking? or maybe my psu not enough juice ??
am using xigmatek tauro 600w

5. totally gave up already packed in the box, ready to ship back to feiton tested 13.12, 14.3, 14.4, and 14.6

bro, why does browser have to be the problem? i remember many times i test, my browser is in the background and i always tab out, but if i remember correctly, even when i didnt turn on anything outside, the freeze still happen

recevied back my powercolor pcs+ r9 290 from feiton, they just update the bios

so far so good

since the bios update, my card cant maintain the highest gpu clock as adverised which is 1040mhz, max i can get is only 1032mhz, and the graph on msi afterburner fluctuates alot, is this something i should worry? but no more crash in game which is ofc really good news for me

i totally agreed, solve my problem too, now using 14.6 beta rc

try 14.4 stable version first?

and this vrm temperature, how much maxed out before i should stop? max i get on vrm1 so far is 85c

hei guys, how much is the max temp on vrm for r9 290??

this is just from my readings, a system equipped with r9 290 card consumes around 400w(total system consumption), and r9 290 alone max tdp can reach around 300w, let say u didnt overclock your cpu, and doesnt have much other extra accessories(hdd, fans,), u will still have around 120w to play around with

but i cant say for sure if your psu can handle this poweroclor pcs+ r9 290(i owned it), recommended psu is 750w

best thing is to try it yourself

and what is your current setup now?

hmm with your current setup, i think its better if you spend some money to upgrade the cpu first, i think it will bottleneck the r9 290 heavily
