From the article, it seems like the first Radeons that supports this Adaptive-Sync is GCN 1.1 GPUs. That translates to 295X2, 290X, 290, 260X, and 260X only.
*
HD 7790 is also GCN 1.1 if not mistaken.

QUOTE(coolkwc @ May 14 2014, 01:33 PM)
Hi, wanna ask regarding R9 290.

Yesterday i bought a Sapphire Tri-X R9 290, from GPU-Z (0.7.8), i saw my boost core clock/mem clock is at 957Mhz and 1250Mhz.

I search internet, i found the clock speed and naming is rather confusing. Reference 290 is 947/1250, Tri-X have 2 version, Tri-X and Tri-X OC, both cooler are same and OC version is OC out of factory 1000/1300. However i never see someone who have Tri-X with same clock speed as me, which is 957/1250. Actually what's the different between both of it? Is OC version equipped with better binned chip?
*
QUOTE(raydenex @ May 14 2014, 01:42 PM)
Where did you buy your Sapphire Tri-X R9 290 from?
I don't think I've seen the non-OC SKU sold in Malaysia.. but that's just me. All the SKUs I've seen are the Sapphire Tri-X R9 290 OC ones.

Can screenshot your gpu-z?
*
coolkwc is right. There are actually 2 versions of the R9 290 Tri-X in our market currently. OC version is 1000MHz / 1300 MHz, non-OC version is 957MHz/1250MHz.

I have noticed this in my retail shops even in Penang. It is not easily noticeable, for the OC version, there is an "OC" logo on the bottom right of the box (beside the 4GB logo).

The non-OC version does not have the "OC" logo. Photo a bit small, quoted from hikari85 FB.

Anyway, for Sapphire Tri-X user, did you experience fan rattle noise at 50-60% fan speed? I google it seems like this is a common problem when the fan resonant at certain RPM and the shroud hit the heat sink aluminum fin...

Faced the similar issue as well. RMA and come back the brand new replacement card also faced this issue. sad.gif Your card affected?

QUOTE(EdwinCodec @ May 16 2014, 03:46 PM)
Hmm. Any games. Fifa 14, and etc. I'm pretty sure it's GPU and not PSU. Cause the sound only comes under graphic loads.
Mine whine 24/7 during gaming or benchmarking
*
This is not normal. Would it still be possible to send in for RMA?

From my observations, the coil whine only happens when I run 3D Mark, particularly on the Cloud Gate / Ice Storm benchmark. Other benchmarks that I've run (e.g Unigine Heaven/Valley) does not replicate this coil whine sound. More so, games. Also, I noticed that this issue happens a lot only with reference based cards, so far only my non-reference Asus / MSI / Gigabyte cards were spared. There was once where my R9 280X Vapor-X even had coil whine, despite being fully non-reference and had better components. sweat.gif

hey all i'm gonna get myself a Powercolor R9 290 PCS+. the clock speed seems higher than sapphire tri-x as well as the cooling seems better. anyone any opinion against powercolor? thanks smile.gif
*
I think not many here have Powercolor 290, mostly Tri-X only, but I'm sure it is not plagued by the fan rattle issue that many here faced on the Tri-X. sweat.gif The Powercolor card has a very nice solid build about it and even has a backplate.

So if i flash BIOS, only one of the BIOS at one time will be flashed right?

Anyway, yesterday night just flash to Tri-X OC BIOS...extremely frightening...when i press program, the windows of Winflash shown 'not responding' and progress bar is stuck at beginning...after 3 minutes only pop up flash successfully... sweat.gif
*
Correct. wink.gif Whichever your BIOS is currently switched to, only that BIOS will be affected.

Edit
Anyone OC on 1st day? tongue.gif. I did not heh. Also what's the normal temperature on load? Mine's 70C on full load. Not sure if it's good?
*
You're using Powercolor PCS+ R9 290 right? 70C on full load is pretty good. Last time my Sapphire Tri-X 290 goes up to max 80C.

94C is really unacceptable honestly. The components will degrade really fast and the whole damn card got burnt. It's close to 100C.. you can boil eggs you know.

What settings for your OC? I may keep in mind so next time when i decide to OC i can try smile.gif

Perfectly safe according to AMD, nothing to worry about. biggrin.gif

QUOTE
“Some of you have expressed concerns around acoustics and temperature. As noted in our explanation of the new mechanisms included in PowerTune on the 290 Series, we have designed the 290 Series to operate at a steady state of 95C. By running at 95C, we are both maximizing the performance and minimizing the acoustics of the product. We do this by increasing clocks/voltages and/or reducing the fan speed until the GPU runs at the temperature target. By having the GPU target at lower temperature, you sacrifice either performance or acoustics.

Some of you have expressed concern over the GPU running at 95C. Be assured, that 95C is a perfectly safe temperature at which the GPU can operate for its entire life. There is no technical reason to reduce the target temperature below 95C. However, like all aspects of PowerTune, this is completely within the control of the end user. If you would rather have you GPU operate at a lower temperature, such as 85C or 73C, we strongly encourage you to customize it to your preference and write about it in your review. This is, after all, the reason that we design products with this level of flexibility.” – AMD PR

Better hold your horses first and see if any users feedback on any fan rattle issue, if they do exist. tongue.gif The fans used and heatsink construction looks rather similar to the Tri-X, which I have no confidence at all now, sadly. sad.gif

I ordered HD5830 from ipmart, the RM59 used one haha.
I'm going to replace the HD5670 on my sister's PC, can't wait for it to arrive.
I look back at the benchmarks, didn't noticed that HD5870 was released 5 years ago. Compare the performance to the high end GPU now is like night and day.
*
Do hold your horses, but the way ipmart packs the graphic card, leaves much to be desired. sweat.gif My first unit had its PCB badly warped and the PCI bracket dented. Second (replacement) was better, but still some warped on the PCB. Plugged into my PC, no display. Finally they gave me a refund back.
