Original android is original code contributed for the kernel or rom, and not derivatives of available rom/kernel.

android development is for all derivatives of original work from other devs

if they release source like nexus, they should be OK.

otherwise it'll just like lenovo. good phones, bad ROMs

if the button works in the normal android, should be no issue with the button. maybe just your recovery does not allow button up

tried with htc one x, got screen scratch in 2 weeks. since got kids, it drop occassionally. luckily it survive until got it changed with htc one, before sell off and join nexus gang

If you meant stock AOSP ROM, not sure if it exists but I suppose so, just that not for 4.4 yet.
One of my rule of thumb for Android is if there is no XDA support for it, don't buy it. Mi3 has been in market for a while, but the ROM development looks centered only on xiomi forum and not in xda.
