I thought all the Cons you mentioned, is what you will get when grabbing Nexus lineup, pure AOSP.

I thought people knew about this, kesian. Only an enthusiasts will love Nexus lineup, people like you sir wouldnt suit with the pure AOSP like in Nexus 5. You already used to the add-on function like in Touchwiz/Sense

i agree on this, not everyone will like a Nexus especially those who are more into features and other that has been added on by each manufacturer.

it's basically back to everyone's preference, there is no best phone around.
*
Yup, its not fair to blame on the nexus. Believe it or not, everything (Touchwiz/Sense/SonyUI) starts from AOSP.
My sister who already used with Samsung, also cant use my Nexus 4 last time, he said it is lack of functions.

Only enthusiasts will understand the passion when using Nexus, the customization, the snappiness it gives, such dream, haha!

I, like many others, like to read tech blogs and news. I know that the nexus line has many flaws but the ammount of nexus users praise the phone has somehow made me into buying this.

I agree that it is a solid device. At first i thought i can live without touchwhiz features. I thought soft keys is better than normal hardware keys. In the end it depends on you. I might be able to use the phone for a long period of time but i will always look out a way to get rid of it.

The nexus 5 is a solid device. Smooth and fast without lag. If google can add somemore feutures, it will become awesome.

I can see that it might not be too long before i go woth the custom roms.
*
Thats the way it is sir. With that soo many add-on functions, yes i agree any phone will become godlike of extra features but at the end of the day, trust me, we people will starts to complaint:

" Damn it why is it lagging! "
" Jeez why it takes soo long to load just Whatsapp??!! "
" Darn it my keyboard lags! "

About that softkeys, you knew what suits you in the first place already. Dont jump ship, you'll regret.
Those tech blogs reviewer, they knew about what's in AOSP already, thats why.

At least these are my opinions.

i was using S4 LTE rooted it and use GPE ROM
can't tahan the skin wei
i mean in the settings, you cant scroll from tab to tab  doh.gif  doh.gif
s4 got a lot of features that ppl dont use in reality....  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif
the only thing i miss is the contact, swipe left to sms and right to dial
other than that are features that zap battery and soon you will turn it off

my only complain is that aosp could look a bit bland... hopefully next iteration can bring new UI, new set of icons and animation

Different people, different preferences  nod.gif
I like the simplicity of AOSP, any additional features I want, I can flash different roms, install xposed (example).
Sure not many people may agree. That's why there are options for Android phones! And you can go test the phone/UI before even buying it, that's the point of demo units at shop/stores.  laugh.gif
*
Absolutely you both. Different people different liking & perspective.

Enthusiasts will prefer the hard way (flashing/rooting/unlocking), normal people more prefer to out of the box features.

Now i even my younger sister already starts flashing custom roms on her Galaxy S2 sweat.gif

QUOTE(zariel @ Apr 15 2014, 05:52 PM)
Nah.. You will not notice the difference when you test the demo unit untill you have used it at least a week or so.. I have tried the cm 11 for maybe a month and i satisfied with the less features of vanilla android but i didnt know that the vanilla android has much less features than the cm version.

Custom roms is the way to go if i want more out of this device.

I still believe that google can do more especially with the camera app and other less significant options but might be a deal breaker to some people without they realize untill they use it.

I do agree with the clean simple ui and fast response of the phone. Seriously no lag at all.
*
For me, i already knew what i wanted in the first place, when i get to the demo set, i will find out whether it is included or not. Easy task.

It is open-source dude, that is why there is SlimKat/ChameleonOS/Slimbean.

QUOTE(zariel @ Apr 15 2014, 06:37 PM)
I did list some of the features that i like to be in the next nexus line. But if you ask me about next google update for this phone (guess you cannot change the hardware):

- i would like a separate sync for calendar and email for the email apps. You can do that with the samsung email app. Guess the blackberry can do that too.
- change vibration intensity
- ability to hide soft keys or other means of of hiding it such as another option to use swipe at the edge of the screen to access home button instead of to swipe at the edge to bring up the soft keys
- option to choose different apps for the locker just like the current setting to change to different launcher. Option to have no soft keys for the lock screen.
- better camera app
- choose more power toggle to be added in the notification bar. Please add screen rotation, sound mode, and wifi hot spot toggle.
- notificationn led settings. Add charging led please.
- smart stay
- Many other people can add such as the shake to change music song.

Notice that these are very small things that i think google can add in no time but probably not all people need. But its a very small and i guess it should be there without the need of a request.
*
All this features already included in custom roms. I remind you again it is open-source. What more do you expect.
You want more? This is the part where Touchwiz/Sense/SonyUI came in. Also underground custom rom

Haha, I remember my first time Android phone (Galaxy S2G) rooting and flashing. First experience like sweating. After that is like my daily habit. Now not that frequently flash flash  tongue.gif
*
Same to mine, first android machine is Galaxy S2, almost every weekend i change Rom.
After that, the following 7 android phone, a piece of cake cool2.gif

When new rom is released, It was like :

" Goddamn new rom is out! " >>15 mins later>> " This rom is blazing fast "

You know what i mean? laugh.gif

I never complaint as i knew what the devs/manufacturer have faced, its not a piece of cake. Its better to suggest and support, give an idea, they have this specific space.

Like the previous user mentioned, its not easy for them (devs) to expect on what people need and dont. For me its easy, what i wanted, it is out there, either i choose wrong or i am just being stupid enough to try something that i knew it will not suit me at all cost.

Come on people, Nexus is built for specific objective.

It is not built to suits everyone needs. That is why i mentioned before, Google Nexus lineup is for enthusiasts only, seriously speaking here.

*
Actually i did, but to my younger sister's phone, Last time i even caught her cheating my parents. It is indeed for safety reason. In my friend's? No thanks but not interested to know where he goes and does.

My parent's iPhone too registered under my AppleID so i can track them down if i wanted, also i can actually reduce the tendency for the phone to get lost.

I am the king in my family cool2.gif

Lol. I'm not doubting your concern for your family members (I have no interest in whether you care or do not care with whom they are with or where they are/were).
And no, just wanted to know if your sister already at the adult or young adult age. Because you tracked her, one would assume your sister is young (for safety reasons).
I'm a stranger and have no business/place to your family matters and no interest in what you do with your family member's phone  smile.gif

No problem dude. icon_rolleyes.gif
