Hi guys. Broke my Nexus 7's screen and I need a smart device to use, was considering a Xiaomi MI3 but MIUI made me put it down and immediately grab the Nexus 5. So I picked up a black unit. Was looking for the red one but there wasn't any stock. So, yes, hi!

Glad to know someone else sick of MIUI, wanna vomit  whistling.gif

Actually the feature set is incredible. After all, they throw in every feature anyone could want, but the layout and all just won't appeal to vanilla Android users like people who buy into the Nexus line.

I really considered buying the MI3 and putting on a custom ROM, after all, the specs make the Nexus 5 look like an enormously overpriced phone. But I've already got a Nexus 7 (screen replacement is on the way), so why not another Nexus, so I can say I've got a pair of Nexi. laugh.gif

Hi guys. Since people talking about charging times etc. Has anyone tried charging your phone with a different cable but same charger?

I've bought a few micro USB cables off eBay and all of them charge as slow as a turtle. Last time I used to try to charge my Nexus 7 it also cannot even charge up, all it can do is slow down the discharging of battery.

Found the reason why normal USB cables are crap. They've got a much smaller diameter power cable compared to the original ones. Thought this might help.

BTW, silly me, getting everything set up on my N5 before realising if I unlock boot loader everything will be erased. Sigh, too lazy to do backups now since no Titanium Backup doh.gif

Ooh thanks. Old timer Android guy here, not updated with the latest.

Not that I didn't know how to - I bought my phone when I was in the midst of exams & I broke my Nexus 7 screen so I had to set it up for use almost immediately. Now malas only. laugh.gif

Suddenly the interest for Mi3 is waning already? Digi's pre-order seems nice.
*
Don't think so. Mi3 sold out in 15 minutes flat. Not even 17 this time. I was watching the Mi3 sales ticker while trying to purchase the power banks lol.

Contracts sucks imho. That's why I always buy my gadgets contract-free. Nexus being contract-free is a plus. Affordable price.
But, oh well, to each his own.
*
Agreed. My usage - with plan it'd be at least RM50/month. On prepaid (I'm using Tron - 10c/SMS, 20c/min calls, RM1/day internet) I use much less than 20/month. laugh.gif

Tron how much MB data for RM1/day?
*
30MB. Very meager, but I have all my music downloaded on Spotify & I use mobile data mostly to make sure I get important e-mails as soon as possible.

There is also the option of RM5/week for 150MB and RM18/month for 600MB. I used to be on UMobile U28, never finished my 1GB quota so this suits my needs perfectly.

nod.gif nod.gif  I see and actually roughly calculated how much I'll be spending if opt-in contract. Contract-free saves me so much and I don't get tied to a single carrier within <insert number> months/year(s)

hmm.gif  first time heard of Tron. Did some fast googling and saw their rates, don't think is for me though  sweat.gif
*
Main reason why I'm on it is because of the 1 year validity.

Not to mention, since they are new, they've been offering goodies on and off. Topped up RM50 recently and got a free car charger. rclxm9.gif

Thank MCMC for MNP. No longer do we need to be tied down to carriers like the big 3.

how fast the Tron internet speed ?
*
Theoretical max is 384kbps (48kB/s), I get around 40kB/s.

Sufficient for my usage, YMMV. Am looking to find a way to test LTE on my Nexus 5 though.

I rather wait the hype over first. This scenario is small when new iPhone launch.
*
Not hard to get the phone when they release a new batch. Was spamming F5 for the power banks, opened the phone purchase page out of curiosity, it wasn't too hard to place a purchase for one. Wouldn't hurt spending, say, 15 minutes of your time trying to get one right now.

Very, very lucky.

Notice the big time difference in between payment and order. I didn't realise until I went digging around and found out that my order actually made it in.

Don't say I'm bad, I have a feeling it's a stock clearance for xiaomi.

Trying to get last minute money from Malaysian before push out Mi3s which going to be using 801.
*
My exact thoughts, hence I ended up with a Nexus 5. Still though, the Mi3 is superb value for money over similarly priced phones eg. Moto G, Samsung

Tell me if you willing to let go, don't mind to pay extra bucks of course  brows.gif

I was hoping to get more since I have several devices on me, but only one order made it in. Will let you know personally if I make another purchase, but for now, one for me and one for my friend, no more extras. Sorry sad.gif

Well, I'm just intrigued that Xiaomi ventured into Malaysia..finally, after reaching our neigbour way earlier.

Maybe future product will be better bet since we will have almost the same day access as in China + warranty claim will be easier.

Their software is quite good previously, don't know whether it has become better or worse now.
*
MIUI has always been good, just got to get used to it. Their feature set, especially for officially supported devices, makes the dev community even for Nexus devices jealous.

Personally dont like their iPhone-like interface, no app drawer  shocking.gif and worst is really slow Android version upgrade.
*
Can always change launcher. I find the MIUI interface too iPhone-like but there is always the option of using Aviate/Nova/GO launcher depending on your preference.

On the slow Android version upgrade. It won't matter much to you unless you are a developer. Even so the feature set on MIUI (they're usually 1 or 2 revisions behind the latest, right now for instance they are on 4.3 iinm) is expansive. A huge selling point.

Same here. Have to admit that I was going to get the Mi3. laugh.gif impulsively changed to the Nexus 5 at the phone store & never regretted the impulsive decision.

Still on stock after 6 days of use. Updated to 4.4.3 after the first day. So far so good.

Battery life on par with S4(stock aswell). Camera better than S4.

Will probably root it once I feel a strain.
*
Root it as soon as possible. You will regret rooting later on in when you have to backup everything to unlock the bootloader. I'm right there now
