I believe they need a lot of effort to attract government and corporate deposits after the merger. Will the new entity initiate more promotion to attract personal depositors? Let wait & see...
*
Let's hope they do...one-off promo: 4.5% for 1 year FD placement drool.gif

QUOTE(davinz18 @ Jul 15 2014, 03:48 PM)
The nearest u can get is Affin, but how long can it last. I heard some rumors Maybank might be interested in Affin & merged with it sad.gif
*
MBSB has several years of rumours & tons of publicity under their belt in regard to a merger, but until this moment, habuk pun tarak doh.gif

So in all likelihood, Maybank & Affin can take their sweet time as well biggrin.gif

Warrior, If the trio merge officially, I think most likely 4.7% will not be available because
one of the reasons is PIDM.
*
PIDM status has effect on commercial bank's rate ka? How is it so?

QUOTE(BoomChaCha @ Jul 15 2014, 07:02 PM)
If MBSB alone, yes, 4.7% is possible to raise.
If I can recall correctly, MBSB offered 5.5% was the highest I have ever seen since
few years ago, I regret I did not place it at that time.
I was wondering will this merging successful or not?  hmm.gif
*
5.5%??? When was that? How is it possible that it didn't show up on my radar???

One wise apek called it thumb sucking laugh.gif

QUOTE(BoomChaCha @ Jul 15 2014, 07:02 PM)
Oh...  hmm.gif  This is possible that BR reduced their rates because of this scandal?
I think MBSB's 4.7% for 5 years, do it before the trio merge...
*
Let's hope they don't merge & MBSB raises its 4.70% rate thumbup.gif

CIMB hasn't revised its FD rate.

1-month FD is still at 3%

here's wat i got for hlb and uob:

hlb
fresh funds current promo is 12m 3.85%, need another 10% in casa earmarked 6m.
or 15m 4.00%, need another 10% casa earmarked 6m.
effective is really about 3.675%.
existing funds, 12m think it's 3.4%.

uob
fresh funds 12m 3.85%, no frills.
existing funds 12m 3.40-3.45%.

so, depending on where yr funds are now, choose the right bank.

spanner thrown into the works...

"Putrajaya is now facing significant backlash over the proposed merger of CIMB Bank, RHB Bank and Malaysian Building Society Bhd (MBSB), with Malaysia's national banking union, Umno warlords and the Abu Dhabi government lining up against the deal that would form the country's largest bank."

Yes, that is the one that I mentioned some time back. That for those who deposit more than 1 mil in a bank account, bank will offer lower rate. But it seems that not all banks are following it. So it does depends on the particular bank.

http://www.cimbbank.com.my/index.php?ch=cb...&tpt=cimb_bank#

So it looks like CIMB for 12 months did increase by 0.25%. rclxms.gif
