Is it true that we only enter when the price is low?

QUOTE(Pink Spider @ Jun 6 2014, 08:58 PM) I read from some where saying that 'buy low sell high' is a strategy in UT investment.QUOTE “ You certainly won’t get rich quick. But it’s about as close to ‘buy low, sell high’ as we’re going to get without a crystal ball. “ I think no matter how good or bad stocks held by a UT, the fund manager having final discretion determining how good or bad is the UT is.- Michael E. QUOTE(MNet @ Jun 7 2014, 01:47 PM) 大家投资,都只是为了赚更多的钱,就这么简单。 Agree. No matter how good a share will potentially rise in the future, a unit trust with few dozen or hundred of stocks whether will perform as good as that particular share is all in the hands of the fund manager. If you tell me 30% out of the total stocks held is undervalued, I'll only buy the story when the NAV (cost of investment) is reasonably low i.e. not at the all time high and still wanna jump into it. If you only look at the 30% of undervalued stocks in the fund and decided to buy, it will hurt you. Better quit the game and play at bursa. |

QUOTE(forextor @ Jun 12 2014, 11:28 AM) Oh like that laa... thanks.. like that I will leave it in Cash Management Fund then... easy to get in and out right... You need to observe the annual fee charged for CMF.Correct me if I am wrong, Cash Management Fund is more liquid than Fixed Deposit right?.. and the rate is comparable to Fixed Deposit if I am not mistaken? Any other place I can put that is liquid and safe but with high return? |

QUOTE(Pink Spider @ Jun 12 2014, 11:07 PM) Please understand what is unit trust and how CMF works. CMF is good for people who don't know how to split FD as the withdrawal is flexible unlike FD which subject to penalty/interest forfeited for premature withdrawal. the drawback is the return generally lower than FD.CMF is NOT FD nor savings account, it is a unit trust fund THAT INVESTS SOLELY IN DEPOSITS. CMF interest is not compounded (in fact, it is misleading to use the word "interest" in this context), but the fund manager uses the interest earned by the fund to PLACE ADDITIONAL DEPOSITS. QUOTE(yklooi @ Jun 13 2014, 05:18 PM) just a note....if the NAV of your Hwang fund dropped a lot today...dun be afraid...it may just be distribution. So it mean we better go in after distribution or just add-on every month?......between 1983 and 2013. Amazingly, the investor who dollar-cost-averaged at annual market peaks only performed slightly poorer than another investor who simply invested at the end of each year; the first investor would have gotten annualised returns of 9.5% while the second investor had earned 9.9%. http://www.fool.sg/2014/06/10/why-its-okay...-a-market-high/ (click Refresh if prompted to log in) This post has been edited by cappuccino vs latte: Jun 13 2014, 05:39 PM |

for me distribution is the best time to top up. I'll get a lower WAC.
btw at the end, the fund performance still rule whether better or worsen than FD return. |

QUOTE(xuzen @ Jun 30 2014, 10:17 PM) I am those that have a tendency to spend, so this PRS with its lock in mechanism is suitable for me. Ho about the 'Msia No.1 fund house' - Public Mutual?Hmmmm, come to think of it, Hwang manages my PRS money, Eastspring manages my KWSP portion, and Kenanga manages my cash portion. All in all... I am happy with such arrangement. Xuzen |

QUOTE(tcchuin @ Jul 5 2014, 09:19 PM) There is no different if you compare net value before distribution and the day the distribution happen. But bear in mind the story is totally different on the 2nd day from the distribution onwards. There may be lower NAV on the 2nd day after the distribution, hence you have a good chance for grabbing more units. This post has been edited by cappuccino vs latte: Jul 5 2014, 10:58 PM |

QUOTE(tcchuin @ Jul 5 2014, 10:24 PM) but isn't you investing same amount of money and your return will still be the same whether you bought it before or after the distribution? Sorry, I need to clarify that if the 2nd day's NAV is even lower than the distribution day's NAV, then it is the best time to top up and grab more units. |

QUOTE(tcchuin @ Jul 5 2014, 10:34 PM) well i thought as long as the price goes down (not because of distribution), it can be a opportunity to buy more units with the same amount of money? Yes you are right but the problem is we don't know when the price is gonna go down except for sure after the distribution ex-date. |
