ENABLE UNKNOWN SOURCE APK & INSTALL APK TO HYPPTV WITHOUT ROOT!!!

Hi all,

I just got my HyppTV 3 days ago and was shock that it can't install APK file (at least not with the help of this thread)!

I follow the creator of this thread, akifrabbani, to get around, rooted my box and able to install APK as user app (install at /data). Note that most app failed to work if you install them as system app.

However, I find it troublesome to always need to key in Linux command just to install an APK. Thus I created a small app - HyppAPK to install APK as user app.

Steps:
0) MAKE SURE YOUR POWER SUPPLY IS ON FOR THE WHOLE PROCESS OR ELSE WILL SPOIL YOUR TV BOX
1) Copy the attached HyppTV-APK-Installer.zip Attached File  HyppTV_APK_Installer.zip ( 189.4k ) Number of downloads: 6799
to your USB drive.
2) Plug USB drive into your HyppTV box.
3) Power off your HyppTV box by plug out power cable.
4) Press your remote control RED power ON button and hold it till step 6.
5) Plug in power cable into your HyppTV Box and press the power button behind the box.
6) When you see white HyppTV welcome screem, you can release remote control RED power ON button.
7) You will see a black screen with a Android robot.
8) Use remote control UP/DOWN to navigate to "Apply update from external storage" and press OK button.
9) Choose HyppTV-APK-Installer.zip and press OK.
10) Wait for system to reboot and when start just run HyppAPK.

This little app will try to enable "Unknown source" apk installation, if set successful, it will fire up a simple file explorer for you to install APK. This app MUST be install as a system app for it to work (follow the 10 step above). As far as I know, no root is require.

Thanks akifrabbani for doing a great job to start all this! Without him, I will be so disappointed with HyppTV Box which cannot install APK!

DISCLAIMER: I will not be responsible if your warranty is void, your STB exploded or your dog died by using this exploit.

Attached File  HyppTV_APK_Installer.zip ( 189.4k ) Number of downloads: 6799

It worked! But when i want to install an apk inside the app the error "problem in parsing the package" came out  sad.gif  It happened after the factory reset.  sad.gif  sad.gif  Any heads up? I still could install from your app  biggrin.gif
*
When u get "problem in parsing the package", it might cause by 3 possibilities:
1) The Downloaded .apk file is Currupted or not fully downloaded
2) You might have turned off “Allow installation of apps from Unknown Sources”
3) If the App is not Compatible with the Hardware or the Version of OS you are using.

What APK are you trying to install? I do not understand what u mean by "an apk inside the app". The installer is for you to install a APK that you downloaded to your USD drive.

Oh its like the app downloads an apk then installs it. Couldn't work.
Plus i find my internal sd not showing up in the "My Media" app. Aptoide couln't detect my internal storage also. So it can't install any apps.
*
This might be your internal storage is corrupted. You can try format your internal storage from recovery screen, but I am not sure will this break your box. You could still copy the APK you want to install into USD and then install from there using my app.

EDIT: I think if your internal storage is corrupted, gone, or dead, you can't install any more app! You need to get it fix first. My guess is "wipe userdata/factory reset" in recovery, but I am not 100% sure.

anyone can share apps apk that compatible with this stb...tq.

Most app I installed worked. Other than those which need 3D support which will prompt the device cannot support 3D. I have installed many IPTV app from China site like shafa to watch live China channels.

However as compared to my other TV box HMP8100 from Phillips, this HyppTV box seem has a much slower CPU.

aiyoo.... so in dilemma... just got my unifi and hypptv installed early this month.. to flash or not to flash?

thinking of going the HyppTV_APK_Installer.zip way... has anyone failed using this method?

by the way, can someone confirm if these apps work on stb

- livestream
- ustream
- tune radio

many thanks.
*
If u need 3rd party app u need to flash. I flashed my box the 2nd day after I got it! As long as you can make sure your power is not cut off during flashing process u are almost 100% safe.

I will test out the app u mentioned when I got time and let u know if they work or not.

Bro, if i install ur app i.e. HyppTV_APK_Installer.zip from the recovery menu, then i should be able to install any apps from a USB drive.. is that right? i do NOT even need to do the steps described in the very first page of this thread?

And if i want to have Apptoide or Google Play Store, i will need to install them from the USB drive too?

If all apps will be installed via the HyppTV app, then what use would there be to install Apptiode or Google Play Store on the STB since u wont be installing anything through them anyway.. is this correct? (sorry i never used Apptoide but if it's anything like Play Store u cant download app from inside it but can only install?)

Just want to make sure i really understand everything correctly before messing about my STB  tongue.gif

P/S: Any luck with Ustream, Livestream and TuneRadio apps?

Answer: YES, you DO NOT need to do the steps described in first page. Just follow my steps and you are done.

And if i want to have Apptoide or Google Play Store, i will need to install them from the USB drive too?
Answer: If you already follow my 10 steps and able to install via USB, you can install direct from Apptoide or Google Play direct already.

Will try out Ustream, Livestream and TuneIn Radio later after my parent finished watching their TV program! smile.gif

All 3 app u mentioned are able to installed successfully!

1) UStream installed and launched with no problem, can play live video.
2) LiveStream installed and launched with no problem, but I do not have account to login so not sure can play the live video or not.
3) TuneIn Radio installed ok but when launched it bomb!

Check out screenshots below, sorry for my poor photo shooting skill lah!

I got this too, thus I flash the backup recovery file to go back to factory default and then just install pure simple APK. I feel it is simpler and cleaner.

First, try see when go into recovery mode, can you still see the Restore from backup (or something like that) in the last line. If you see that, try to flash that first. Else try the method below.

You may need stock firmware to restore back. I saw a post of stock firmware in this thread, and it pointed to http://goo.gl/SKG9x6. It was a 10 month old link, so I am not very sure will it work for the version we are using now. But since your box already cant boot, no harm trying.

Download http://goo.gl/SKG9x6 and copy to your USB, go to recovery mode, the select this zip to flash. Good luck, bro!!! icon_rolleyes.gif

Ok, finally i managed to update my STB with your great installer app.. all went well.. then i downloaded aptoide and youtube apk on my pc, transferred to USB drive then installed on STB using your app.. installation went well too..

But the youtube app when run keeps asking me to update to latest version but when i clicked update nothing happened.. i'm thinking maybe it's not the correct version for my STB and maybe i should have installed youtube from Aptoide instead..

Now i'm downlading FB from Aptoide but the downloading is extremely slow for a 5Mbps line... is this normal?
*
I also didn't able to run youtube successfully. Maybe try download via aptoide direct and install.

You can download a speedtest app to see if your STB has fully utilize the 5MB line.

Actually the STB has a FB app inside already, I think under Interactive menu, real your STB manual.

I am aware about the pre-installed FB app, i just wanted to test the Aptoide installer  smile.gif

If i run the speed test app and it shows that my STB is NOT using the full bandwidth, is there anything i can do? any setting i need to tweak?  icon_question.gif

If i installed youtube using your installer, would i be able to uninstall it from Settings? i went to Manage Apps menu in Settings but the Uninstall button is grayed out..

What actually does the 'Install update from backup' menu on the Recovery screen do? will it simply revert the installed apps back to the default set? or will it also wipe out all Hypptv settings configured by the Unifi installer?

If i re-do the 10 steps to update your HyppTV_APK_Installer.zip, will it simply install your app on the STB without touching other apps? or will it revert the apps to the default set plus your apk installer?

Sorry i still don't quite understand how the update mechanism on STB work...  unsure.gif
*
Install update from backup will keep the app you installed in user space, which means not system app. I think you install youtube via the recovery flash method right? If that is the case it will installed in system space and you will not be able to uninstall via Settings. Only app install in user space (via my app or via aptiode etc) can be uninstalled. You can try install from backup which will clean up the system app you installed via recovery method. Then u need to install my app to enable APK install into user space. Then you can freely install any app which later u can choose to uninstall freely too.

Actually i did install youtube via your installer.. then it should be in user space, right? and should be uninstallable?

What about all the settings on the STB? will they get wiped too if i do 'update from backup'?
*
If u install via my app, then it will install in user space. Not sure why u cant uninstall.. I can.

After update from backup, settings should preserved.

For those who have problems with YouTube, I suggest to install [YouTube for TV].
That's right, [YouTube for TV].

You can either directly search and install form Aptoide or Google the apk.

EDIT: Damn, all remote apps (android smartphone to control other android) didn't work.
1. Tablet Remote
2. AIO Remote

P.S. I haven't tried yet DroidMote, the client version is free. But the server apps that need to be installed into HyppTV must be purchased. Tried Lucky Patcher but to no avail. Want to purchase, cannot install Playstore (which is very buggy if flashed in this STB).

Well looks like I have to buy wireless keyboard + touchpad combo.

Thanks for your tips! I got my YouTube working now! Install aptiode, search Youtube TV, install! And there it is! Beautiful!
