Obviously I can see that you do not understand my previous post. Maybe my english is too good for you to understand. Oh btw....I've been here long before you came...noob.
You can drop the multplier to 14X on all of these 9XX processor because they support EIST: (default multiplier in brackets)
930 (15X)
940 (16X)
945 (17X)
960 (18X)
Since EIST is software controlled by writing to the processor MSRs (Model Specific Registers), mobo manufacturer can take advantage of this to force the proc to run 14X all the time and then give this option some exotic name like Asus CPU Lock-Free. Some people will go "WOW!!!...my mobo can unlock a P4".
But the truth is, the multiplier is already there and you can even drop your multiplier to 14X in windows using Crystal CPUID. So you are not unlocking anything at all....you just use it and again thanks to EIST.
It's basically like CnQ that came with Athlon64 which allow user to manipulate their lower multi but AMD CnQ is much more superior than Intel EIST. With Intel, you can only play with either 14X or the default multi of the proc itself. Now you can see what is the relationship between the Asus CPU Lock-Free and EIST. The genius engineers at Asus have found the registers related to EIST that is responsible to drop your multi to 14X during Idle state or lower loads. That's why in Asus CPU Lock-Free option, you can only choose enable or disable and you cannot choose your multi freely. When you set this to enable, the bios will fool the proc by manipulating these registers and you end-up wit 14X.
The conclusion is, if you want to drop your proc multiplier to 14X, just buy those processor that supports EIST (Eg:630 and up, 830 and up, 930 and up). But make sure to buy those that are 3GHz and above. 2.8GHz proc is already at 14X, so no point there. There is no such thing as a unlock 9XX proc, unless you buy the XE series or an Engineering Sample.
This is what I was trying to tell you while you're telling everyone that 9XX processors are unlock and mocking other senior members. So don't call people stupid when you're the ones that are lacking. If you're new, be humble and respect others. I hope you get the meaning of my post this time.
to thread starter,it is not a fault when we dunno something, we all r here to learn or to share our experiences. If u think that this is really a good place to show off and bash ppl, then u r wrong
