is it just me or is this the 3rd box with an intercooler on it to go all red blinky?  could the intercooler be loose or something?
*

too hard to pin point IMO. there's some people here with the intercooler but no problem what so ever. i thought it's because JP sets, but all the SG gamers i know that have their console died using SG sets.

Well the power went back on and everything is fine now. The voltage instability was definitely the cause of the problem. So watch your voltages everyone
*

something that every xb360 should take note if their place power voltage isn't stable. unless u wanna brick of 1.5k tongue.gif

hmm....I guess there's no way to get it repaired then  sad.gif

c'monlah bro judge, me also become captain jack sparrow like this  laugh.gif

maybe can find a way contact MS SG? there's no more warranty, but as long as the seal is there, they might repaired it for a fee.

hmmm guess all those including me that bought right after the official launch last november will be facing the "red light executioner" anytime. hmmm a bit dissapointed since i am for the first time going into ORIGINAL... all original. even if i stay in japan with my japanese set still useless because the warranty only 3 months. quite dissapointed here with this issue sad.gif
*

first batch always got some problem, any equipment the same. and MS stingy with the warranty also didn't help. IMO the only way to fix for now is see if MS SG can take it in for repair.

Quick update for everyone... I had a few 2 red lights error and a few 3 red lights error today. I rebooted a few times and managed to use the xbox.  Later in the afternoon, the 3 red lights came back permanently.. So I opened up the box again (this time it was easier with experience), and had a look at the chips. There was some hidden thermal paste that I couldn't get at beneath the ICs yesterday and they had ooze out and shorted again... So I cleaned again with desolvent and alcohol... Put it back together and it work!!!! yay!!!

Not too sure how many times I have to redo this until all the thermal paste comes out.
*
but wouldn't it be risky to not put new thermal paste?

actually we found out 1 thing yesterday during our project, all dvdrom are locked to the motherboard. that means if your dvdrom KO you just cant simply go buy a replacement dvdrom from shops/ebay and replace it. it wont work!
*
all 360 dvd-drive have their own keys in the firmware, and only specific model from specific manufactures can be used on 360. so if you wanna use another same model drive, you have to flash the firmware with the keys extracted from your ori drive.

yah loh...

but i found out ebay got sale the flash ic, same with the samsung drive one... donno can be replace it or not.

and also, with the mod chip install, can it by pass this stupid 'key'???

aiyah... out of topic already... mod don ban me..
*
the thing is, the key in the dvd firmware are also stored in the CPU/dashboard. it will validate if the key is same or not before it load any games from the drive.

without a backup of your ori firmware, your dvd drive is screwed. maybe if hacker manage to create a de-crypted software then you can extract the keys, but with encryption that take equivalent of 100 years of computing to break it, i don't think it will happen.

or you can somehow damage the dvd drive then send it back to MS and say it's spoiled? tongue.gif
but how about the warranty sticker?

Hi alkt,

Do you know what sort of info/items need to be presented in order to claim warranty replacement? E.g. receipt (sigh.. malaysia's shop receipt, don't think they will accept that) And is it a one-to-one replacement on the spot?

Well, I do have relatives there.... but they are not "tech" person  hmm.gif
*
if your set manufacture date is less than a year, they will honour the warranty even if without receipt. just check at the back of your xbox for the manufacture date.

the most important for the caller (your relatives) is to convince them the caller tried everything already but still the machine is 3ROD. don't tell the tech support sometime can go into dashboard, just say 3ROD all the time. important is the caller must convince the tech support that the caller tried everything already, don't let the tech support say tried this and that then the caller call you back and ask you to try this and that. doh.gif

they exchange 1 to 1 on the spot. just need to bring the console only, detach everything from your xbox, including the HDD. after convince them your xbox really need to be replaced, if got stock they'll ask you to come in 2-3 days. if no stock might take until few weeks. they check for the MS SEAL infront the unit, so make sure yours still got em.

like the HK shop, a small shop lot was the MS's official replacement centre. sweat.gif

mine, just reported this week and MS SG response next week my replacement set will avail.
